but tell me, what Americans do with self-owned guns, isn't that a bit scary? what if someone loses his mind and starts shooting people?

Yeah that happens way too often.
Plus accidents or mistakes, like people accidentially shooting their own toddler kids because they think it's a buglar.

I own an illegal weapon: a knife that is illegal according to the law of my country. It's basically lying around unless all my kitchen knives are dirty and I'm too lazy to wash them, so I use my illegal weapon to cut veggies or slice bread. That's all. I don't feel guilty of anything. I'd be pretty pissed off if some cop would take it away from me (and sue me for having it) because I think it's my own frigging business what kind of knives I have in my home.
Same thing with guns in America. Many Americans think it's their personal matter what guns they own and no authority has the right to restrict those liberties.

The USA have by far the highest number of fire arms per capita in the world. They don't have the highest gun crime rate world wide, though (though the are the highest gun crime rate country among first world countries).
But those Americans just are crazy for guns. It's in their nature. :lol
If I ever travel to the USA I might either feel well protected by all those armed to their teeth citizens, or I might feel scared to my boots by all those aremed to their teeth citizens, not sure which one will happen.

so you are afraid of ze viermacht when they have their weapons on them? I was at the range with over 200 armed men collectively coming and going and ammo there. if a kid wanted to from the ammo shed he could have started shooting. he had his weapon(s) nearby.

I hope this doesn't turn into a debate. This isn't a debate forum. :nod

.

It does happen too often of course, but I don't think that it happens more than it used too. We simply have the internet and the media and they love to make headline news of these type of things because the're trying to take our guns and turn public opinion.

Some are more irresponsible with guns nowadays because they haven't been taught safety from the parents. Others are more safe in the gun owning community of late because of safety concerns and media hype. I raied my kids around loaded guns, but I had them up there shooting and learning safety from like age 3 or 4. By the time they were 10 they were allowed to keep loaded guns in their bedroom. (gasp!) but nothing ever happened because I taught them well. They even got into knock down drag out fights like all kids will, and neither of them ever even threatened the other with a gun, again, because I taught them well. A couple times they came to me with their guns when they had friends over and said hey lets put these up, I'm not sure about that one kid, and I do have to go to the bathroom sometimes...I was so proud of them when they did that. :) I knew what I had taught them had stuck.

But you wont hear about this stuff on the news Claudya...but it's not as if it doesn't happen, and everyday. I can't be the only one who taught their kids well...

Here's my two revolvers.
44 - model 29-2
357 - model 19

Had this pair back in the 80's, sold them, got another pair a few years ago. Back then I was reloading. Currently collecting the same outfit to reload again. I know what these two can do with the loads I used. Factory loads don't do well especially in the 44. But load slow burning powder with a lighter ball and walla! Tight group. The 44 needs a faster velocity and slow burning powder to get the slug out of the barrel before the recoil affects the trajectory too much. Factory loads may not be making pressure by the time the slug reaches the end portion of the barrel allowing the recoil to throw it all over the place.

Nice

Note the lack of a ring around the cylinders of those two. Hardly been shot. And just barely a "rim ring" around the firing pin.
Searched quite a while to get these two at a decent price.
That Mag Hunter of yours...
Straight shooter? Comfortable?

The Smith 44 mod29 has a low boreline compared to the grips. The barrel lifts a lot less than a Ruger. The recoil is mostly backward instead of up. And I suppose the long barrel helps :biggrin

I like Hickok45. He presents quite a bit of info but sometimes he likes to have fun :lol

Edward check this thread out, I posted this stuff last year

This is a good thread Brother, thanks.

It might sound weird but it makes me feel good to know that a lot of people are armed walking around here in the USA. I think we outnumber the criminal element in this country. I like watching those failed crime vids on youbube. Lots of times the presence of an armed citizen stops the crime and perhaps even save some lives here and there.

I've carried a gun for a long time, years. At first I was hyper-aware of it but after I got used to it, I mostly forgot about it and was never given a thought. I even got in a fist fight once and I never drew it because the situation didn't warrant it. A couple other times I had close calls, and the gun did save out butts, and my pregnant wife too.

I never had to shoot anyone though, praise the Lord for that. I've noticed that mostly the people who fear guns and their misuse are always people who have had no training or familiarization with them. People fear what they do not understand. Keeping your kids away from guns is not the way to keep them safe from them, there's no safety in ignorance. You may not have guns in your home, thinking that this will keep your kids safe, but it wont! What about when your kids goes to a sleepover at his friends house and the kid pulls out his dads pistol from his sock drawer? How's the kid going to know how to react? What to do? Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

:)

That's a nice pair of guns there. I'm real familiar with both of them. My dad ran right out and got a mdl 29 as soon as Dirty Harry opened, (6", later a 4") and my mom's gun was a 4" model 19. You must have the 8 3/8" 29. With all that barrel, it'd love 2400, my 7.5" RH & SBH's do.

Edward did you see the Arabs shooting the nitro on page one, now that was funny

Yes I did and I don't think I'd want to shoot one, but it was funny, lol. Those guns don't make sense from a practicality view though. Ammo is scarce and few between and it wont kill anything deader than anything else. I likee the 45/70 :) It will kill anything on earth and with less pressure. Ammo & reloading componants have been around for well over 100 years so it's everywhere and cheaper...plus since the 45/70 started out life as a blackpowder round...in a pinch it can be loaded with BP. It's a fantastic round!

I found another video on the 600
I remember one time at a pistol shoot, a guy offered me the opportunity to try shooting his 45 revolver. I had never handled a pistol before and he knew this. What he also failed to tell me was that the auto-loading pistol he gave me had a hair trigger. I squeezed off the first round and being unprepared, with every recoil it fired again so I rapidly emptied his magazine within just seconds. To me this is the kind of thing that can give we gun owners a bad name.

I also recall one guy pulled out a 45-70 revolver. That was the biggest pistol I had ever seen to this day.
