Gypsy?? I am 27 years old and have moved 25 times! Being the daughter of missionaries/preacher means moving around a lot, and some of it was quite short notice. But it makes for some interesting times.

Back in '87 I had the pleasure of going on a mission trip to Ireland. I met some awesome Christian friends on the trip and one woman in particular became a good friend. After the trip, I went back to California, she went back to her home in NC, but we kept in touch via phone and letters (no email back then!).

Anyway, along came October and she told me her room mate had a new job and was moving. She jokingly asked me if I wanted to move in with her.

I said, "OK".

So, I quit my job, sold my car, bought a plane ticket, packed up a couple of suitcases and moved to North Carolina. I lived on the savings that my car got me until I found a job. I wound up having to work both my job and jockey pizza for Domino's for a while as well.

I wound up moving back to CA in August. I mean, North Carolina in August is like a steam bath, sheesh. (OK, there were some other reasons. ;) ) But, it was a wonderful experience and if I could go back in time and do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat.

Yes, money was tight, and yes, I experienced homesickness, culture shock and lonliness. But, I gained some great new friends, some wonderful experiences, had some prejudices challenged and got a super hunky boyfriend (at least for a very short while).

When you're young and single, it's great to step out like this. I was going outward so to speak while you're kind of coming back home in a way, but it will probably be nice to be able to relate with family and friends as an adult and you can always keep sending out the resumes. Careers come and go and change. Experiences last a lifetime.

(Of course I was an old hand at picking up and moving. By the time I moved to NC, I had already moved over 20 times.)
