I good question to ask yourself in such situations is What would Jesus have done?

Remembering that Jesus spoke to prostitutes and tax collectors but never got involved with their behaviours. I can easily imagining him playing trick or treat in a truthful, loving and spiritual way, which would have the children aware of what is the righteous way to approach their own behaviours and still have fun.

All Hallowed Eve. The day before All Saints Day. The stories were myths created to scare people into a boring church service the next day.

It's a dark celebration.is where I, my wife and daughter stand.
The dark belongs to satan, not God.
God is light.
Being and openly proclaiming to be a Conservative Christian, each year that is where my wife, daughter and I stand. Good post young lady.

Like.
Sometimes I wish we proclaimed much more in what we believed.
The JW's don't even allow their kids to go trick or treating.
Some churches don't even speak to this...
It's a shame.
The egg-throwing, the ugly costumes, and worse.
And it's shrugged off as a day for the kids.
Christians should be different from the rest of society, at least in these
circumstances. We give in to the secular world too much.
I'm sure I do it too (not halloween), I'm not condemning anyone...
Just sayin'.

No, I wouldn't condemn either but if one is Called Out they are called to be a Peculiar People, different from the World. (1pet 2:9)

Halloween is PLAYTIME.
It's fun stuff.
Trunk or treat, harvest festival, door to door for candy, Charlie Brown cartoons and scary movies full of blood and gore.

My God is greater than any hobgoblin. I'm one of His kids. God is more scary than any demon. Don't upset him by touching me. Although those demons need to be careful around me as well, I know how to use Jesus' name to send them to the pit of Hell.

For me a time of giving and fun.

Fortunatly for many that's what it has become. Kids often dress up as a princess, cat, pumpkin....knock on a door and get candy.

But, if you actually study the history of halloween, how it got started and so on you might have a slightly different opinion.

I trick or treated as a kid, my kids did, and my grandkids will but at selected houses, another 10 or 12 yrs who knows because things have changed and changing.... Dress up, go get some candy .. Get scared or you can go to a church fall festival maybe or just sit it out .. I haven't felt guilty or convicted so far ..

around here churches are holding trunk or treat events .one church i sen had Disney characters. i have no problem with kids dressing up for fun. its the evil events adults scheme up.. not a big fan of haunted houses the blood and gore . hey kids need fun time.if memory serves right Joseph said something like this to his brother..
what evil bad you guys meant for me God meant it for Good. we as the church should look for ways to shine the Light into the darkness hold events at your church as alternatives to tricking or treating . Lord knows all the evil out there. show the world Love to the kids not every thing has to attached with a scripture . after all we are living scriptures so let the world see something different out of us..
the best testimony is not always spoken but lived

Halloween was fun stuff back in the 50s not any more ... the gore of today reminds me of aborted babies ... a desensitizing of human life...

exactly i suggest if folks love the blood and gore . spend the day with the county cornor view all the tragedies they see every day .then go spend the day with the Embalmer as they prep the bodies and try to make them presentable for viewing it was fun in the 60-70 also

ugh. I dunno. these days, i just give the trick or treat-ing kids candy, from my parents' house. there's an atmosphere of...concern, maybe even fear, over the whole thing. pranks, hijinks...things go too far, on a regular basis.

i do not have children. if i did....id probably want them involved in a church event, or...something, besides going from house to house.

the whole thing is definitely rooted in pre-Christian traditions, which...is what it is. looking back over Halloween experiences before I became a Christian...well, I'm not the most conservative Christian ever, but I do not think the standard celebrations do anybody much good.

i dont know why my parents keep buying the candy. some years, people have shown up, in masks...who really are too old, they seem a bit....menacing...not my cup of tea.

There are plenty of historical tours of our country that include hauntings.my town is no exception.

I warn coworkers of those possessed places.I have seen a few things while reading meters.the ghost building is the most interesting.

Ah wrong type of post for the thread.

Then origins of Halloween have to do with pagans, like Christmas in many aspects.we can make both more Christ pointing or not.

I agree with most here of the dangers and/or pagan origin of Halloween. I only wish Christians understood that the "quarter and cross-quarter" Sabbaths in which Christmas is one of them (along with Halloween) celebrating the winter solstice originated in worldly holidays. Of course you have those who protest saying that we now celebrate Christ and what's wrong with that? The Old Testament warned very clearly not to mix pagan with true worship. Grant it, people have off from work then, so I see it as a mid-winter secular holiday likened unto the 4th of July. No manger, no Christmas story, just a holiday the world celebrates to get together. My point is keeping Christ out of that with the same distaste we have for Halloween. As for the holidays, the world uses 8 Sabbaths and the 8th day Sabbath (same as the first day of the week). God uses 7. There are 7 annual Sabbaths and the 7th day is the weekly Sabbath. While Paul downplays the importance of how we keep holidays, if we are to keep them, it makes more sense to use a biblical one instead of a secular one and then stamp Christ's name to it.

Does everyone understand my point? I've said it before, it's to the effect if you don't want your kids celebrating Halloween then don't _______ (fill in the blank if you got my point). Otherwise, if you do, they can celebrate it and don't be a hypocrite.
