Have you ever planned on winning the lottery? Is it Biblical?

No. I'm not against earning a lot of money, but I'd want to actually earn it, not just randomly have it. It wouldn't feel right. And there are other problems with it as well, for instance the money might be tax free, but the interest earned on it isn't! Just imagine the monthly interest earned (at say 5%) on 10 million?

Those that are wealthy have a responsiblility to use their excessive money for the good of those who don't have as much. :twocents

I've played the national lottery on several occasions. If I won I would pay off some of my debts (mortgage etc) and use most of it for missionary work and feeding the poor in my native Bangladesh....honestly, I'm an angel. :halo

At least you'd spend it wisely. I know people that would use it just on themselves. If I did happen to win, I would definately donate it all to good causes.

I play $1-$2 per week on the Lotto (Wednesday and/or Saturday). I always PLAN on winning, although I don't believe God will ever allow it. I may be wrong as usual, but it seems I remember a verse that says not to seek riches; I just can't find it.

However. I'm sick and tired of being head over heels in debt (mostly medical bills). I filed bankruptcy about 4 years ago and can't do it again any time soon. Plus, the rules for filing have been changed and make it a lot more difficult. if God ever decides to have pity on me and lets me win it, playing $1 is sufficient. Sometimes I can barely come up with $1. I just want to get out of and stay out of debt.

I also want a real house to live in that I can actually afford to heat in the winter and cool in the summer. I can't afford to use air conditioning and can only use a fan. Air conditioning runs my electric bill way too high, and it gets HOT and MUGGY in Florida.I also want a home that doesn't leak every time it rains, and it rains a lot here in my opinion. Yesterday was the first day in two weeks that it didn't rain. I've had to stop taking some medications due to lack of money, but I"m still taking my two most important ones for my blood pressure and diabetes; those I won't stop since they're generic and only cost $4 each per month.

My understanding of scripture is that God is against having money, and yet He says in Malachi that if we're not giving and tithing financially, we are robbing Him. How can I give when I don't have enough to pay all my bills or eat properly because of owing about $15,000 in medical bills to at least a dozen different places. A few of them are satisfied with the $10 per month that I can manage to send them and some aren't. Some have turned it into collection. I had to turn the ringer off on my phone and disconnect my answering machine because of the daily calls from collection agencies who expect me to pay over $2,000 ALL AT ONCE on several different medical bills. I have talked with these people until I was so angry that I hung up on them. I have written to them and explained my financial situation, but they DON'T CARE!

I NEED to win the lottery so I can pay everyone off and get them out of my life. The stress is getting me down, and I don't handle stress well. It raises my blood pressure for which I'm already on medication and makes sleeping more difficult than it already is.

God doesn't see the need for you to be obscenely rich. You obviously shouldn't (and can't) give any away etc, and I pray that your financial situation will improve. God will notice your situation, and I don't bleieve that he will judge you because you're not giving any away - becasue you can't.

How far did she have to travel to get to him that it took her two days? Of course, I guess it depends on when she read about it in the newspaper or heard it on the news. If I won the lottery and ANY woman (especially one THAT beautiful) suddenly decided I was the man for her, I would have some serious doubts.

Speaking of the lottery and giving it away, I saw this video recently on YouTube. Apparently some guy in Georgia won the lottery and he's giving it all away.

What are the odds of that?

Well, it depends. With a 6 ball lottery and a 40 number field the "combination" would be 40x39x38x37x36x35 --Did you know that you can cut-n-paste the math right into your Internet Browser and get the answer? The Google search engine has a built in math calculator. So, the odds against choosing the exact order for the winning combination would be over 2 billion. Most state lotteries range between 1:17,000,000 (one in 17 million) and 1:120,000,000 (one in 120.0 million).

I've heard that the Lottery is a voluntary tax imposed on the statistically ignorant. That's a little harsh, it could be thought of as a "Dreamer tax" too. I used to like to imagine how good a person I could be if only, if only... I knew that I wouldn't win the lottery if it wasn't the will of God. And I could almost fill myself with pride thinking about all the good things I would do. But then...

But then I thought, "Why couldn't God put a lottery ticket in the mouth of a fish for me?" Why should I buy it? Is it unbelief that makes me want to buy them? Well, I don't know so much about any of that and I never look for fish on the sidewalk as I walk to elementary school anymore. Mostly because I am way too old for elementary school and have put those things behind me <mostly> .

Oh, lotteries aren't "tax free" either. Half of all the monies won from lotteries go to a "State General Fund." A guy I know (used to work with him) won the lottery and hired a CPA as a consultant to help him "spend smart". He was advised to donate all his furniture, all his household goods and his car too (if he planned on buying a new one) to charity for the tax deduction. He set aside $30,000.00 for each of his kids education (more tax deduction). He did this to "buy" himself (for that year) a 5% decrease in taxes. I guess there were other things that can be done too but what I'm trying to say is that our hearts are where our treasure is. Or maybe our hearts are where our tax is? Well, you get the idea anyway.

Many times and if I won I would pay off all our bills, get me a motorcycle fit to my new electric wheelchair, build a house for my wheelchair, make Linux beat Windows by coding games that blow windows out of the water, give a million each to my relatives. :)

Have you ever planned on winning the lottery? Is it Biblical?

Not only have I never planned on winning a lottery, but I have never planned to purchase tickets in a lottery (although I did purchase a ticket once or twice about 40 years ago).

Is it Biblical?

Is what Biblical? Winning a lottery? Yes.

The twelve apostles (reduced to eleven after Judas was out) ran a lottery to choose the replacement for Judas. There were only two people in the lottery, Joseph and Matthias. Lots were cast, and Matthias won the position, and became one of the twelve. Of course, the eleven has prayed first and asked God to have a hand in the outcome.

I did some research awhile back on lottery winners. You would be surprised that most are broke! I was so intrigued by what I found that I wrote an article called, “Lottery Winners Are broke.†The article tells why so many of those who have won “millions†are now living in poverty, including a lad from New Jersey who won the state lottery twice! If you’d like to read the article, it is on my blog at http://confidenceandjoy.com/lottery-winners-are-broke/

I have also posted other articles about "prosperity." http://www.confidenceandjoy.com

No I have not planed on winning the lotery, but I have thought about it many times. Even driving a Rolls Royce and living in a mansion, with woman everywhere.Just being honest.

I think everyone has thought about what it would be like if they were to suddenly become fabulously wealthy. Especially those of us who have to budget every penny just to make sure that the money doesn't run out before the next check comes in. It's fun to fantasize about seeing some kind of need, and be able to meet that need or see a piece of property or something like a oh, I don't know, a '48 Jaguar XK120, and be able to have it just because one want's it.

As to whether or not I would actually want to really win the lottery, I don't think so. I think it would be really hard on my marriage because my husband and I would want different things out of that kind of wealth. And, I would wonder about my kids being able to handle that kind of wealth before they had their character fully developed.

If someone were to offer me something along the lines of say $100,000. Just enough to pay off the mortgage and set things up so that we wouldn't have to scrimp at the end of each month, then that wouldn't be so bad. But some ridiculous sum like $350,000,000's. Nope. Not if it meant that my husband's or kid's trust and faith in God would be limited.

Although, I have to admit, it's amazing to see how God comes through each and every month as far as our finances are concerned. I would miss that.

:waving

Planning to win it would be just silly ~ since I have never played the lottery... :nono

As a sport it is lame ~ people who play this "game" (most often) grumble about their loses, and are no FUN to be around... :o And once in a blue moon they are wild with ectasy about a win. :shrug This GAME does a number on a persons emotional equalibrium... :crazy

I think it's sad when people throw away their hard-earned money on it, and have never heard a truly successful story about any lottery winner. :shrug

The bible does not say anything about gambling except for the soldiers who gambled to win Jesus' robe. :verysad But what does the bible say about wanting to be rich?

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. :shades
