Have you ever struggled to do push ups? I have.

I've always kept myself in good physical condition,but I have seen people struggle with these.

There are excercises to improve push-ups without actually doing push-ups, such as planks, bench press,dips,etc..

Keep workin' at it and you'll see improvement. :)

I struggle with my cardio at the moment....... :help
 
start off with 3 sets of 15, 3 days a week and then do more every week and you'll build yourself up so you wont be struggling anymore.
 
push ups are my favorite exercise! But it hasn't always been. I would advise being consistent with it. Don't go a day without doing push ups. Also, don't just do a few here or there. When you do them, do them until you physically can't push yourself up. I saw tremendous improvement by doing that a few times a day. I can now do 26 in a row. Not too bad for a woman. :)
 
Never use to, but I do now! Bad shoulder , makes it really painful to do regular pushups.

I have found that if I just lean on say a window sill. I can still do pushups without to much pain that way.
I mainly do them as a warm up before bench pressing.

I disagree about doing push-ups every day and so does any physical trainer. When you do pushups until you can no longer do them you are breaking down muscle tissue. These need time to heal and rebuild. Do them every other day at most, but I would reccommend 3-4 times a week, 3 sets til failure each set. :)
 
GAd! When I was 16, I used to do 100 one arm push-up's three times a day. Now I can't do 5 one arm push-ups and even the first one isn't easy. :oops

Agreed. You should never work the same muscle group more than once within 48 hours. Always have at least one day in between; do another muscle group instead in between days.

Not only that, doing just one body part without working out the whole body evenly can cause serious muscle imbalance problems. Most people would be surprised just how this can affect your overall health. Muscle imbalances result in the stronger muscles taking over from other muscles and things get pulled out of whack. Trust me, I'm dealing with it all now with my chiropractor and physical therapist.

lol. I love the weights and have always struggled getting on the cardio stuff. My cardio is terrible for someone who works out on a regular basis.
 
please work cardio, as it good to do so, weighlifting alone wont help keep the heart healthy, i need more cardio as well, helps my asthma, and i do lift.

Isn't that the truth! I started running almost 6 months ago and my knees really, really gave me a hard time, especially when I started doing the longer miles.

What I found is that my hamstrings were getting stronger because of the running, but running does very little to the quads. As a result, when I upped my mileage, my quads would fatigue before the hamstring and since its the quad muscles that keep the knee in place, when my quads would fatigue, my knee cap would wiggle around and afterwards, ouch!

I've since started running 8 flights of stairs and I'm riding my bike too. Both target the quads and now I no longer have any knee problems :)
 
I don't mind pushups at all.. i max them out on my PT test...and running, I love to run..

the thing I really dislike.. situps.. ugh :gah

odd sit ups are usually the easiest for the female soldiers i've served with, try yoga and you'll see how weak or strong your core is, i do some of it in bjj, and it's no joke

Do you like sit up improvement excercises? I don't like sit-ups and I believe they're bad for your back, but there are a muriad of other core excercises to improve your sit up counts.

I once did over 500 sit ups in a row to win a contest. toot-toot.... :)

500?? Oh my gosh... what did you do to help improve your situps? Just do them..?
I hate situps but if I can just max them on a pt test then I can get a 300..
any advice??

and Jason, yoga is an awesome idea..yes.. Im excited about getting back to the states because there is some awesome yoga classes that I want to get involved with
