I was just explaining that many christians never read a bible and the Gospel is not just reading a book of text. Many heard by word of mouth alone. I don't see the bible as a need to know the Gospel and be saved. The bible is historical accounts and records. Its good for teachers, pastors, and scholars.

Because many christians believe if you don't read the bible your doomed.

Whether or not you decide to read the Bible is your own personal choice. Although it will guarantee you a closer relationship with the Lord, it won't guarantee your salvation. Faith in Christ is the only thing that does that. :cross

I don't agree that reading the bible guarentees a closer relationship with the Lord. Many of the first century Christians who heard the word through the apostles did not read a bible.

Jesus said: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

Paul Said: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Is there anything more I need to know?

There's actually a lot more Brother. It gets pretty deep. In fact, scriture tells us that it goes over your head, lol. That in Ezekial 47
3 And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles.

4 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins.

5 Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.../

Here's another one of those OT types and shadows that give us information for the present day. Apparently, there are Angels who come around every once in awhile and measure us up. If we're not ready no promotion, if we are ready them promtion to go into the deeper things of God. How deep do us Christians want to go? Ankle deep in the Lord? Knee deep? Waist deep, swimming?!

I thought about it, and...I don't want to be the plumber again when I get to heaven! Scripture says to build up your treasures in heaven and ties in with this. The water is the Spirit of God all through the bible. Just food for thought Brother.

Praise the Lord, I'm off to work. So far so good at the new place, lol.

Too many chiefs.

You're right Brother and scripture tells us that you don't need any chief. Why did Jesus come anyway? The veil is torn and now God has given us the right to seek him personally and somehow...his Word works into it rather neatly. We can read it for ourselves and then the Holy Spirit will water those seeds that reading will plant.

What is not to cease praying? Is it once a day, all day everyday, 10 times a day, once a week, 50 times a month?. If someone prays once a year and another prays 100 times a day neither has ceased prayer.

Amazing post Edward. Those verses say a great deal Thanks for that.

Of course not everyone can read the bible. Some people cannot read and some people cannot see. The Holy Spirit has other ways though of communicating. If we respond He never let's go.

The instructions were quite specific:

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
Proverbs 22:15 kjv
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

So the way a child would go in the natural is probably wrong.

A new heart is what all of us need.

Too many chiefs.
Proverbs 6:6 kjv
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Romans 1:20 KJV
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Now to some I may have just spoken in tongues.

The Bible says:
to learn of the nature of God study His creation.

I haven't prayed or read my bible in Awhile (Obviously I've prayed about certain things over the months but I'm talking about a daily prayer) and to be honest I don't see anything wrong with that. I mean I haven't really had a conviction from God about it so I don't see why It's a problem. Don't get me wrong I love God and everything and I'm not saying the bible is a bad thing or anything like that, I just don't read it. So whats your guys thoughts?
that's the awesome thing about God - He doesn't force you to pray or read your bible - He simply tells us to hide His words in our hearts and to turn to Him rather than others

i learned a long time ago that my life is much better when i do the things God talks about - and if i don't do those things i might not know what good things i am missing

thinking of God's instructions as an obligation usually kills the desire to do it

thinking of God's instructions as wise ideas to include in my lifestyle brings joy and expectation and awesome results - like following the guidelines in your car manual causes your car to run better and last longer and have less problems

Everyone who reads the bible becomes chief because everyone thinks they know the truth of the scriptures, obviously that is why there is many Christian denominations and so much debate over scripture , that all comes from the one source, the bible. Denominations are division.

Love God and Love one another is about all I go on, and just do my best to try do good and live in peace in this world.

Loving God is nothing more than loving one another as Jesus explained.

Lord when did we see you and feed you. The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Why does Jesus repeat himself the same thing.

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

1 John 3:23: And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment.

Paul: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I had to learn early on, about certain things affecting my prayer life and my desire for the things of God.

I soon discovered that going to certain places or hanging around certain people or watching certain things, killed my desire for godliness.

I found out the hard way about the principle of defilement.

I used to called it getting "slimed".

Defilement comes out of the heart of a person and enters you, and contaminates or defiles your heart, whereby your zeal or fire for God is quenched.

In short, it's unsaved, or unsanctified friends and family, that the enemy uses to kill our spiritual drive and zeal for the Lord.

To quench our hunger and thirsting for Him and His righteousness.

18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?”20 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” Mark 7:18-22

  • because it does not enter his heart
