When the Lord said to be fruitful and multiply, He was, I believe, speaking to us as a species, not individually. He also said it at a time when the earth was sparcely populated, and the biological supremacy of the human race was not yet established.

Not only is the careful consideration of parenthood a good idea, I believe it is an ethical necessity. Not everyone is a good candidate for parenthood. In my case too, for example, health is a critical factor. I sustained a TBI when I was 18, and have ever since suffered CFS, migraine headaches, and numerous other medical problems. I have enough difficulty supporting myself, and don't think it would be right to risk a tiny, helpless life on the capriciousness of my health. So I do not have children, and never will (except by marriage or adoption).

Playing the Devil's Advocate, so to speak, I don't see anything in 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 that talks about children. It only talks about marriage.
Paul was not married. If there was a universal command to marry and have children, he certainly would not have been our test pilot as it were to follow in our walk with Christ. 1 Cor 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. To me none of those barren throughout history could have possibly adhered to that be fruitful without direct intervention by God such as with Abraham and Sarah. If that be the road you travel I believe you'll have children regardless. :)

I don't think there is anything in the Bible that says all married children have to have children.A person needs to look at their motive for having children or not. There should be no selfish motives involved.

I had my children for my pleasure, it was my heart's desire. It was/is also my desire to be the best person I can be for them.

So I basically agree with you that it's important to know what your motive is in desiring to have children.

I wanted a person to love and a person to love me back and be the best mom to that child that I possible could be.

I do see a point in 'afford' as being selfish parents. I know solo mothers who live off gov welfare then go have more children. If someone has no money and relies solely on the Gov to give free handouts do you think they should be having more children?. I understand its a human right to have kids, and the kids are not to blame, but i see the parents as selfish.
There are alot of mothers out there who do not want or love their children.

Or a couple on min wage who can barely afford to get through then go have children and there kids go to school with no shoes on there feet and lunch. Its common. Its like they have a child just for it to go hungry. I understand its a human right to have kids, and the kids are not to blame, but i see the parents as selfish sometimes expecting other people to pay for it.

Boy or boy, this is something I was thinking about the other day.
Aside from the fact that a single person should not be engaging in an act that can cause a pregnancy.....

Was this child's exists determined by the woman?
Or was this child's exists determined by God?

I don't expect anyone to answer the question but it's something to think about.

My children and I have seen and heard some very abusive behavior between a mother and her children.I have heard a mother call them names I was not even aware of.

I have decided for myself to avoid having children. Of course, God will do as He pleases, but given my circumstances, I choose to be child-free.

Dear brother, it is my contention that with Paul writing in 1 Thes 4:3 to abstain from fornication that he would not father children out of wedlock. And then notice what the real will of God for our lives is: sanctification.
1Th 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Thanks for the reply.

How do we know Genesis 1:28 is addressed to all humanity?
Because of 2 Cor 1:20, that all the promises of God are yes in Christ and amen in Jesus. Then you see Gal 3:13-14 and find out that you have been redeemed, or bought back, from the curse of the law, Jesus being made a curse for you, SO THAT the blessing of Abraham would come on you. The Blessing of Abraham is the same blessing that was on Noah, Job, Adam, etc. But with Abraham, it was everlasting, it didn't stop with him, it went on to all his seed. Which included Jesus, which now includes us.
You should also realize that 2 Cor 5:17-21 means that whatever disability you have had, as far as God is concerned it HAS PASSED AWAY, and behold ALL THINGS are become NEW, ANNNNNND, ALL THINGS ARE OF GOD.
1 John 4:17 - as Jesus IS so are WE, now, in THIS world (not waiting until Heaven).
You CAN have Heaven here on the Earth, or else what was Jesus teaching His disciples when He prayed that the Father's will be done here on the Earth JUST as it is in Heaven?

So all that to say, if you want to agree with the devil that whatever sickness or disease he has tried to put on you shall come also upon your child, then it will - he just needs your faith-filled agreement over it. OR, you can, in faith, decree just the opposite, standing on those above Scriptures, plus Psalm 91 and 112, and 103.
There is a Scripture that says that what God desires from your marriage is godly children. Partnering with the Lord and His Word will produce that. Ask the Lord first of all to give you the desire to have a child. And when that time draws near, may I recommend Bradley Method...

I am childfree its a lifestyle I very much enjoy ,when I was married my husband was also childfree. It was pretty awesome because I didnt see myself getting married or having children so luckily when I did meet my husband it turned out he was childfree as well.Over the years God has given me more and more peace on who I am and the life and energy he has poured into me its amazing .So yeah theres nothing wrong with making that life decision.

I've heard it said that is the only commandment God gave us that we have obeyed to the point that we can stop worrying about it now. :yes

As one childfree person to another, I agree with you. It's not that I don't like kids (as some people like to think of me), it's just that I didn't want to take on the responsibility and expense of raising them properly or to deal with so many stupid laws, regulations, school policies, etc, etc that take all the joy out of it. Never feel guilty about your decision. There is no command in scripture saying that every person (or even every married couple) must have children.
