Regarding your day to day living.....(after you are born again).... typically its within your conscience, which has been spiritually remodeled to discern things more like God discerns them, that will be your main guide the HS uses to keep you walking according to the upright and righteous lifestyle that God would have you pursue.
You could think of your "conscience" as your "heart".
Another way to think of it is this.....As Christ is "in you", then you are one with Him and the NT tells us that we are to maintain the "mind of Christ" by "renewing our minds", and this means you are connected to how Jesus feels about what you are doing as He is right there with you when you do what you do, constantly.......So, if your behavior is offensive to Him, then you will feel what He feels about your behavior, in your conscience, in your heart.
Also, the Holy Spirit's work in you, will line up with the correct New Testament understanding of Paul's teachings, as its from Paul that we as Christians get 99% of our "doctrine".... so, Jesus to Paul, and Paul to Us, as Paul said to be "followers of ME, as i follow Christ"... is another way we understand and discern the leadings and the instruction and the correction that advises and teaches a Christian how to hear and obey God The Holy Spirit.
Lastly, is being given unusual instruction by the Holy Spirit, such as in becoming a Missionary, or being told to do something very specific that is out of your ordinary daily lifestyle.
Sometimes God would call a person to become a part of a Ministry that is very specific.......How do you know?......How do you know you are to marry a certain person?......How do you know you are to make a radical lifestyle change where everyone you know, including the (dead in Christ do nothing but speak Christianese believers), would say...."you're nutz, why would God want YOU to go to the Sudan".....ect........ Well, you dont have to worry about missing the mark on that one, as God will never tell you to do something that is extreme or very very unique without confirming it directly in specific ways that only you understand, but is seen IN the physical realm, LITERALLY, and is not just some "voice" inside you that can be something other then the Holy Spirit
For example....Lets say that God wants you to become a Missionary to India.......And you've never had this thought in your life till one day you are watching some Christian TV show and they show starving children in India, which you've seen a thousand times before, yet, you are sitting there alone, captivated, crying......and you cant understand this... Then the following Sunday, your Pastor informs you that today's guest is an (unexpected) Missionary from India......And he gives the sermon that day, along with his movie and an invitation to become a part of a group that is going to go with him in a few months to India.. And you are sitting there thinking about the TV show, and you are feeling very very strange and stirred in your "heart"......as if this Missionary is TALKING JUST TO YOU...... SO, THEN, a week later, you open your mail, and there is a card from a Missionary in India that came to you...(out of the blue)..and he is talking about his ministry and his family and is asking you if you could send a few dollars.....And you are thinking ... WHAT IS THIS" !!.... and then the next Sunday you are in Church and someone sits down by you, a new member who is from India, and she begins to talk to you as if she has known you for years.
See it?
Its like that.
..Confirmation, confirmation, confirmation, confirmation....but ONLY YOU SEE IT AND UNDERSTAND,= as its only for YOU...
When that is happening to you, then God is calling you........as all these Physical and Literal confirmations only make sense to you, are only happening to YOU......again and again.
That is GOD absolutely confirming what you felt in your heart the day you were first crying about those starving Children, then later felt the powerful tug in your heart when you were listening to that Indian Missionary while everyone else in the service is thinking about who is buzzing their cell that wants them to go to a certain place to eat once they are finally "free" from the service.
Yeah......just like THAT....is how God will through physical & literal confirmations, confirm what the Holy Spirit is speaking to your heart to do or become.
