Hey! I'm Luke, I am agnostic and looking for what religion to believe in, if any. I was raised catholic, then became christian, now I am questioning everything in life. I will treat you the same way you treat me, but at first I am a very mannered, open minded, respectful person.

.
Hi Lukee and welcome. I came out of Catholicism, consider myself nondenominational Christian, and am of the one body of Christ which is the Church including Catholics which have really believed on the Lord Jesus.
I wrote the following pamphlet which may give you the basics of Christianity, and who we are in Christ. I hope you find truth.

Hi Lukee,
I know Catholic doctrine very well in case you ever have a question.
I am Protestant however because it is more in keeping with the written word of God.

I welcome you to the Forum and hope you find a happy home here.
There are many Christians here who can be of help to you in your journey;
mature Christians, Pastors, even Theologians!

You might find that we disagree on some small matters, but we all agree on what is
important. Love for God in the person of Jesus Christ and our indebtedness to Him
for our salvation.

Eugene's link is very helpful too. It explains everything very well.
You might also like the Foundation of Faith forum.
Nothing is more important in life than to know God.

I encourage you.

Welcome to CFnet! :wave2

I too was raised in the Catholic church. I attended Catechism classes, received my first communion, was confirmed, served as alter boy, sang in the church choir, and even attended regular services during the week which is a bit rare as evidenced by the attendance. My brothers and sisters and I spent time every evening on our knees reciting our prayers before going to bed. I remember spending hours on my knees praying through the rosary and reciting the stations of the cross during the daily services in the season of Lent. At about the age of 17 I began to question much of the teaching and dealing with the doubts I began to have. I eventually left the church and God. In college I even remember writing to attempt to discredit some of the teachings from the Bible. Looking back now I know I was taking Scripture out of context to do it but at the time I didn't realize it.

I was almost 40 years old when my life's journey began to take a turn in a new direction. My conversion has been an on-going process, which partially explains why I chose my username here on CFnet. WIP is an acronym for Work In Progress and I don't think the Holy Spirit is done with me yet.

One thing that caught my attention when I read your opening post is that you say you are looking for a religion to believe in. Be careful! Religions come and go and they are not all the same. What you truly need to seek is not a religion but the One who is the Christ, Jesus. As it says in the Bible, Hebrews 13:8-9 NKJV, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines."

It is important to find a church that teaches Biblical truth and I understand how uncertain it can be if you are not too familiar with what the Bible says.If you don't have one now, I highly recommend picking up a Holy Bible and look to the pages within to measure the teachings of a denomination to be sure it is teaching truth. I like the New King James Version but other good translations are the New Living Translation which uses easier to understand language (words), English Standard Version is a popular one, New International Version is another one that I like and I also like to use the Revised Standard Version. There are others that I have not mentioned.

Do you know someone, a Christian in whom you can trust? They can be a good place to start but always look to the Bible as your source of reference. Every time I read the Bible I seem to learn new things that I didn't learn before.

May God continue to bless you with His Holy Spirit and teach you as you learn and grow in unity with Him. Amen!

After reading your opening post, I must ask one thing: What is your age?

I ask this because what you describe sounds like me at age 19 or 20. IF this is the case, I think I can provide helpful insight.

Well then,
Why are you "shopping" for a religion?

I and you both know that I believe...
The question is why do you want to?

I believe because it is the truth.
I don't have the faith of an Atheist...but then again I am not as angry either. I am as cynical as an Atheist.
So...
I believe because of contextual evidence of the scriptures, historical evidence, anthropology, geography and geological sciences.
So in the end after exhaustive research...the Bible is true.
And if the Bible is true that means that God is also angry with me. God may be love but God is also Holy and I am not and that means I am toast.
So I sought to repair our non-existant relationship.
And God has treated me very well. (His other kids are another story) I have no complaints. I know how good God is...and if what little I know is only half true...I still would die for Him.

So where obviously you have no reason to die for God...(nor is He asking you to)
I am going to repeat my original question.

Why are you shopping for a religion?

Religion is when man paint's over a beautiful canvas.
