I am pretty much a hipster. I dress like a hipster, I rock climb at a place with so many hipsters, I drive a Volvo, my room is *very* hipster, I wear hipster sweaters, I wear hipster glasses, I don't eat gluten, and my favorite show is Gilmore Girls. I have also worked at a coffee shop, and I have never had non-Apple electronics.

This thread is for the coffee drinking, iPhone using, sweater wearing, rock climbing people of the world. ;P And those who love Jesus, they're cool too :).

Then why are you clean cut and why aren't you covered with tattoos.
Sounds like your idea of hipsters wouldn't do well over here.

And being a hipster really has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus.
If you find other people on this forum to be a hipster with, I'd like to know.
It's really a very worldly thing you are presenting here on the forum.

Hi James Clark,
Could you please explain to me exactly what a hipster is?
Do they all look like you? You know, clean cut, well-dressed.
Is a hipster only one on the outside or also on the inside? Like, do they all have the same ideals?

Thanks.
Wondering

Sorry Jason.
I'm thick and need more detail.
What type of sweaters, for instance, what type of glasses. Many don't eat gluten, are they hipsters?
Why a Volvo? I almost bought one once, am I a hipster? What's a hipster room?

I'd like James to explain what a hipster is.

Unless you have celiac, you can eat gluten.volvo? I say that qualifies with a bike rack.cardigan, and joHN lennon glasses.

Ok, let me explain.

"Hipster" is just basically wanting to be original. You have your own style, your own ideas, your own sense of things. It doesn't imply humanism, it is simply a representation of your sense of value (meaning, what kinds of things you like). Tattoos and the like are more with the edgier crowd, not really hipster. Hipster is more like knit sweaters and plaid shirts, boots and fedoras, etc. For me, it's a certain taste in things. That's what I mean by hipster.

To summarize: Hipster is a certain taste in things, typically more vintage/original.

As for ideals, anyone can be a hipster. It doesn't play a role in your beliefs. All hipsters are different, but I would say on the whole they are clean cut. The tattoos, etc. are more hippie than hipster.

Gluten in and of itself isn't bad, but these days wheat is GMO and sprayed with so many carcinogenic chemicals that it's better to stay away from it.

Hey Clark, are you born again?

OK James. I'm good with hipsters. They're a nice clean bunch of kids. Got one in my family. A 23 year old really intelligent girl. Hipster all the way.

Although no one could really explain what it is. That's why I asked you. You did pretty good. I guess you have to see them to understand it.

Here's my problem. Tell me what you think of this.

I'm a tad older than you. What I've found is that the MOMENT you belong to some kind of group, you LOOSE your individuality.

So even if you're a hipster because you don't want to belong to the regular groups out there, you STILL belong to a group.

What do you think?

so by being a believer one is part of a group, therefore one looses your individuality.

Christianity is a group?
I guess you could say that. I never thought of it that way.
It's not a REAL group. It's a way of life.
You see, you could be a Christian and belong to any GROUP you want to.
You could be clean cut
You could be a homeless person
You could be a model
You could be fat and ugly
You could be a preacher
You could be a murderer
You could be a politician

Get the picture?
