Holy to the Core

We're tempted by moralism because we've forgotten what God wants at the center.
Joel Scandrett

For many american evangelicals, "holiness" conjures up musty images of revival meetings, gospel trios, and old-time religionâ€â€along with stern prohibitions against drinking, dancing, and playing cards.

And many are happy to leave these notions of holiness in the past.

Yet even in our era of techno-savvy megachurches and postmodern emerging churches, holiness (when it is discussed at all) is often associated with moral behavior such as sexual purity, financial honesty, and commitment to private prayer...

I'll just say now that the Bible repeatedly assures us that we are saved by the sheer grace of God, thru faith in the atoning self-sacrifice of Jesus, as in John 3, Romans 3, Galatians 2:15-16 & Ephesians 2:8-9

We're tempted by moralism because we've forgotten what God wants at the center.
And this would be in having such an intimate relationship and love for Jesus that it would cause us to walk in obedience, and this in turn should make us desire to be found righteous before Him.
Morality has to flow from seeking Him first, or else our 'goodness' will be wood, hay, and stubble.

Well put, Destiny

As Jesus put it, God wants us to obey Him out of love & gratitude, not out of fear or a dry sense of duty

"We love Him because He first loved us" as Paul put it

"Christ is our righteousness...we are complete in Him"
