I want to run away so badly. I'm having the worst time with my child. It seems like things just get worse and not better. I need prayers for comfort and clarity. Thank you

hello LovethroughDove, dirtfarmer here

I looked at your profile and it is possible for you to have teenagers, even, maybe in their early 20"s, or young children. From your statement: "It seems like things just get worse and not better": I will assume that maybe mid teens. This is the time that our children are going from adolescence to adulthood. It is hard times for them also. Some days they are mature and some days they just act foolishly. Scripture say that if you have "trained" them in the ways of the Lord, they will not stray from that, but it doesn't say that they will always abide in their training. The mother eagle is always watching her eaglets when they venture from the nest, but before they crash to the ground she swoops under them to keep them from a crash landing.

If they have been trained in the ways of the Lord he will let them experience some "rough time" but will not allow them to crash and burn. The strongest and most powerful force that believers have is prayer. Most of the time it is prayer that is the last resort when it should be a daily or constant resort that believer use.

I can attest to the power of a mothers prayer, especially for adolescence. Be strong and continually pray and God will answer your prayers in due time

I'm praying for you dear Sister LovethroughDove. Although this next verse is directed toward idolatry in context, it certainly has been true to my own life in circumstance. When at the end of my rope, Jesus was always there in the fire with me.
Again this next scripture is especially addressing those that will be saved in Act 2:21, And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. In my experience would I have called on Him that loved me enough to die for me lest there be a need? There's an axiom that says there are no atheists in Fox holes, a place many soldiers found themselves in war, and they do call out to God.

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?

Why does God allow such trials in our lives? 1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
We are the work of God in progress as we read in Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure, and according to Rom 8:28 it all works together for our good.
A comedian Steve Harvey once commented on stage after making a rather rash statement; don't trip, God ain't finished with me yet. The most wonderful pastor I ever knew said if you haven't got mad at God at times you haven't walked very far with Him. He said he had given up preaching several times, and yet at ninety-four years of age continued to present four different meetings per week.

I do like that which Brother dirtfarmer had to say above. Basically you and you child are in a growth pattern. Take the ball God hands you and run with it; He will not fail or forsake you in the way.

Blessings in Christ Jesus. :wave2

I pray our Lord give you strength, refreshing and rest . In Jesus name I pray your faith becomes substance and receive your hearts desire, that your worry turns to gladness and confidence, God bless you and your family ..

Thank you dirtfarmer, KevinK, Christ_empowered, Eugene and brujaq!

I really do need other believers' perspectives on getting through the teen years with a head-strong (to put it mildly) child. From all your responses, the gist is (the Lord). Don't take my eyes off of him and trust his plan for us!

Love you all.

hello LovethroughDove, dirtfarmer here

You are going to have some trying moments ahead. Sometimes the only thing you can do is turn it over to the Lord.

Teenagers are people.
Hard notion to swallow. They have a more developed sense of their own emotions and opinions but not the logic skills to deal with them...thus having a lot of bad opinions and decisions.

I found that having a discussion with them... asking questions about facts and situations they hadn't thought about with firm reminders that I am in this for THEIR benefit and not mine tends to make things go smoother.

They are almost out of the house at the teenager stage. Going to do things all on their own in the manner they deem best. I can't live their life for them or keep them from mistakes. (I try...but it doesn't work)

Mine is out of the house. He loves coming by his "old man's" house. Hates it at the same time. Mostly because I was right and he didn't do things how I recommended. And he is paying the consequences of his choices. And I am not going to fix his situation.

Oh it's tough to watch them make poor choices despite your best advice. But I can choose to argue and create space in our relationship or accept that the child isn't me. Isn't going to do things like I want.
So long as their choices don't violate house rules...it's their choice. And my house has definite rules. Like Everyone goes to church on Sunday. No exceptions unless dying.

I win the big battles without using the "veto" card. The rest is small stuff in the end. And what surprises me the most is that my son is much better behaved than I ever was. I was a terror at his age. Not much trouble I didn't get into. He isn't so industrious. But he is beginning to be. We shall see what comes.

You never stop being a parent.

clearly, I do --not-- have parenting advice for you, LOL. I'll keep you and your family up in prayer. Do you have Christian friends thru church or whatever where you are now? Teenagers...ugh. I can't even imagine being a parent in this day and age.

God bless you. :)

Hi sis, without knowing what you're up against and you may already do it but .. My advice is to get some exercise/aerobics class a couple times a week , start playing lively praise and worship music, lift your hands in praise and sing around the house when you can, act and give Jesus something work with to lift your spirit and stay out of a rut . Use that gift you stir up within you to spread attitude to your child , wait on the Lord and give him time to speak and do a work , God bless you dear .. Attitude rubs off

My heart hurts for you. My baby is 50 years old i have been there ... A million tons of hurts...

AMEN .. Hold on to Him He does not fail us.. Please dont let what you see with your eyes and heart stop you from seeing HIS truth as you stated so perfectly simple...
Don't take my eyes off of him and trust his plan for us!

Thank you again Everyone! You all have edifying advice and even since yesterday my heart has lightened so much. I woke up with a positive feeling about things.

One other thing that helped me I think was a rule I made for my wife and sons when they were younger even now was to say''good morning'' as pleasant as I could and to demand the same from every one in the house daily, they hated it at first but it caught on eventually even something as small as that can help set the tone for the day, then work on other little ways of being positive with Jesus at the root .. Hanging around negative complaining people will drag you down, there's a couple on these forums I'd hate to be around any length of time .. It's hard to count our blessings sometimes and I get caught up too, I bet you can really cheer people up too , your post here did me .. Your brother in Jesus .. When you or another hurt we all hurt with you
