People know my first name and what country I am from, that is about it. Even if they knew more to a point it would not worry me. What is there to be afraid of, someone hacking my bank account, im broke anyhow, also can just report it and get a new card. The very high majority of crooked people on the internet who want other people's details is trying to rip people off or spam them.

From this forum I don't think anyone could breach your privacy. All we know is your name is April, if that is your real name, you are a gamer and that you live in Ohio and live close to a park you like to ride your bike at and you like going to the beach.

It's like me that some know my name is Debra and I live in Titusville, PA. No one in here knows my last name. I gave my first name and the city name, but the city name is only the Post Office our mail goes through as we actually do not live in Titusville, but a few miles away from town.

Well all of that is true except for the fact that I never even mentioned living near a park and I haven't gone to the park in like forever, but other than that I see your point.

You know it is such a shame that we have to worry about issues like these anyways. Unfortunately we live in a dangerous world. Luckily for us though when we get to Heaven we won't have to worry anymore and we will just be able to see and talk to each other without any fears. At least, that's what I believe. :)

One helpful hint. Use a different user name on forums than you use on Facebook, or anywhere you might have personal information. If people can find your friends on Facebook, they might be able to find you by talking to your friends. Not all friends understand security.

Its safest to use a different user name on different forums, so that hackers can't cross reference what you wrote on different forums by Googling your user name. That way, if you accidentally write something personal at one forum, it won't be easily traceable by those on other forums.

As long as you don't post any personal information anywhere on the net using the same user name, and the staff has good security to keep hackers from getting at your email or other information stored in their data base, you should be safe from most people.

Law enforcement, of course, can find almost anyone.

Well thanks for that but it's a little too late to warn me about the username thing, but since I haven't written any of personal information like that, I now understand that I don't have anything to worry about. :)

Oh yes and btw my real name is April (but I sometimes go by my middle name of Rose) but having my first two names is a lot different than having my full name on here which I will never give out. Especially since I allow people to know my age and birthday. Without a last name it's pretty much useless information though in somebody actually being able to find out exactly who I am and that's exactly why I won't, because even though I can't be googled very easily now (and I know because I've tried and like kiwidan I'm a nobody) when I'm married and I have my own place that's going to be very different.

Oh and for_his_glory, you also forgot to mention that I'm also a HUGE fan of Naruto!! Hence my new avatar picture of the one and only (and incredibly sexy) Sasuke Uchiha! :biggrin2 And of course I'm a Christian and love the Lord Jesus Christ and completely one hundred percent trust Him as my Savior. When I've lost my trust in everybody else I know deep down in my heart that I can always trust Him. :cross Anyways, here is a warning to all and why I'm so incredibly concerned about my safety and how you should be as well for yourself and for your children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, etc.

I just had to ask this question because it's something that I've recently been a bit worried about since it involves my safety. I have googled my (full) name tons of times in the past just so you know and considering the fact that Joey and I aren't married yet with our own place I'm not anywhere out there (Except I did google my name last night from the school I graduated from and I found out that I was one of the people listed there.) and even when we do you would have to know either one of our last names in order to track us.

So anyways, does anybody know how much information that one would need to know in order to find out a person's full name, address, phone number, and all of the kinds of things that should NEVER EVER be shared on the internet which I have never ever done on here before or anywhere else since I have been an adult,.. but yes I am still a bit concerned about this even though I have googled myself because eventually those who know my last name will be able to find me.

I think personal info gets out easiest through public records. On a whim awhile back I googled my ex wifes name and through voter registration her name, address and all that stuff popped right up. She obtained American citizenship after she divorced me and registered as a Republican, lol. She's sorta terrified of that sort if thing. Meaning, that I know where she lives, lol! I didn't send her a letter, lol. I thought about it but it would just stress her out.

Now, I am about as far away from being a hacker cracker or tech savvy as it gets. And I played a little bit of Dick Tracy on her when she had just left and we had not divorced yet...and I found it rather easy. And I'm kinda computer illiterate in reality. So if I could do it, then someone who knows what they're doing tries to get you...they prolly will. I don't think anyone can hide anymore. Except in the Shadow of the Lord! (Psalm 91:1)

I think going through the pains of electronic security in today's world is futile. So I don't worry about it too much. If someone bought something using my name, they'd prolly help my credit rating, lol. I don't have much to steal anymore. So who cares? And if they're coming to get "me"...well we'll see how that turns out for them, lol. They might win, and send me home early to be with the Lord! Or I might win and they'll wish they stayed home instead. If God is with me, then who could be against me?!

Oh yeah, the whole earth pretty much. That's right, huh? Oh well.

You knew her name though. The question was how easy would it be to find someone who posts on the net if people don't know their last name. That is, are these Forums safe for women to talk on?

I would think that as long as they don't post any personal information, and the admins have decent data base security, they should be safe from most people.

I agree with you, but actually the exact question was how easy would it be to figure out all of that personal information and then use it to find somebody if it wasn't actually posted, and from the looks of the answers that I got, not very. *breathes a sigh of relief* :)

I just started wondering to myself last night why I feel alright with the staff of the forum (having my I.P address) knowing my location and I think it's because although I still don't trust them enough to give them my last name, address etc. is because I trust them enough to keep my privacy. :) (More so then I would trust the members here if I had made that information public.) Btw, StoveBolts the search engine is busted again. I had to search for this topic the hard way. Although luckily for me it wasn't too far back on here.

I'm not sure why the search engine keeps going down. The hosting company now checks it on a regular basis and turns it back on when it goes off.

As far as your privacy, please read the privacy policy on the home page. That should make you feel comfortable.

Thank you and I already did. :) I was just making a point of saying that the staff having my location and or email address is a lot different than the members on here having it. :yes
