I just had to ask this question because it's something that I've recently been a bit worried about since it involves my safety. I have googled my (full) name tons of times in the past just so you know and considering the fact that Joey and I aren't married yet with our own place I'm not anywhere out there (Except I did google my name last night from the school I graduated from and I found out that I was one of the people listed there.) and even when we do you would have to know either one of our last names in order to track us.

So anyways, does anybody know how much information that one would need to know in order to find out a person's full name, address, phone number, and all of the kinds of things that should NEVER EVER be shared on the internet which I have never ever done on here before or anywhere else since I have been an adult,.. but yes I am still a bit concerned about this even though I have googled myself because eventually those who know my last name will be able to find me.

I don't know tons about it, but people can track with your IP address and from what I've heard it's not actually that difficult to get someone's personal information if you know where to look.

Yes I already knew about the IP thing but only the staff has that kind of information here. I don't believe that the members do and I know that you wouldn't be sharing that kind of personal information with anybody else. Anyways that's the question that I'm asking.

How smart would somebody have to be to find that information and how much things would they have to know about you in order to find that out?

It really depends on who's trying to find out who you are and what tools they have available to them.
For example, the NSA has the tools AND the access to information that others dont. They could ID you in just a few hours if they needed to.

As for Joe Smoe bad guy, they rely on you clicking on evil links and - or - scaring you into giving them your paesonal information.

So basically nobody on here would be able to find that stuff about me if I don't post about them.

Yup.
We dont sell any information about you or anyone else etc. If we did, you would be notified or the site would be open for a lawsuit.

Oh I already knew that you wouldn't, it was just a scary thought to me if the little bit of information that I do post about myself would come up with all of that personal information about me as an end result because they were using it as a bunch of clues. Looks like once again I was worrying for nothing though. Thanks buddy! Love ya! :hug

I have put in my full name and DOB and nothing come up, not even in images. Then again there would be no reason for my info to be on the internet. I'm a no body.

Well that's very good to know and so am I but a few seconds ago the message I quoted read something about the person who tracked you down looking into your personal info would be in trouble for invasion of privacy, and that may be true but that doesn't necessarily stop somebody for doing it. You read my news thread so you tell me how many people you read about daily that are still breaking the law?

Someone I know checked there's and it linked him with a criminal offence, the thing was they never got charged for that offensive. He was straight to the website that had that info and complained and had them remove it.

Well I hope that they removed it then but you're still missing the point I'm afraid. I'm going to tag for_his_glory on this because she seems to have a lot of internet smarts.

It doesn't stop anyone but if your privacy has been breached it's usually linked to a website that has that info so you can complain.

I'm not really sure why you're worried. Nobody knows your second name, your email address, your home address, your city or suburb, your date of birth etc. Has something happened to make worried? Opening some links, giving private info, opening emails from unknown people, and going on potentially risky sites can threaten your computer but I don't know how people can trace you
It wouldn't seem to me that you are at risk of being traced, but I don't know much about it.

Actually I do give my age and date of birth on here but other than that you're right. I never give out my last name or any of the things above that you just mentioned. So looks like I truly don't have anything to worry about. :)

It's really not that hard to find out about another person. When I was working on my ancestry I used mylife.com, whitepages.com and obituaries to look up the places where living relatives lived and the names of their children. If I had paid for mylife.com I could have gotten all their important info, but I only used the free search.

Well I'm not as worried as I was before after Tessa's response, but care to elaborate?

There are many that know how to hack your computer finding your IP address even if it is private and not sold. I don't know how they do this, but it is done non the less.

Obituaries are a great place to find names of the living relatives and where they live. You take that info and go to mylife.com and put their name, city and state they live in and all kinds of info pops up including full address, phone number and even where they work will. It gives the spouses name and the names of their children and even pics sometimes.

If you find the street address you can use google earth and that will bring up the house they live in. If someone truly wants to find you there are many ways to do this. It amazed me all the info I found on the internet and just think if I would have paid for those sites I could have even gotten their SS#.

So from what you're saying I basically can be rest assured that since I've never posted the things that I said I haven't, most likely somebody from this forum probably wouldn't be able to know all that information.

From this forum I don't think anyone could breach your privacy. All we know is your name is April, if that is your real name, you are a gamer and that you live in Ohio and live close to a park you like to ride your bike at and you like going to the beach.

It's like me that some know my name is Debra and I live in Titusville, PA. No one in here knows my last name. I gave my first name and the city name, but the city name is only the Post Office our mail goes through as we actually do not live in Titusville, but a few miles away from town.
