St. Paul's Letter to the Romans.
If this is too controversial, it can be transferred to another section.
I heard it was up there with the Gospels in importance.
Here is a youtube clip from a guy named N T Wright. Seems to know what he is talking about.

Romans is a great book as are all scriptures!!!!!
But you need ballance in scripture...
Read Genesis for foundation with our forefathers
A little law of Moses and Prophets.....Psalms at least 1 a day.....
Focus on gospels and combine letters of Paul and Apostles....

My problem with Romans is that many take the scriptures out of context.....
They cut and paste and twist scriptures to mean something out of context....
Usually this means a fake faith or greasy grace doctrine without repentance or relationship....
As Peter warned that they would do with Pauls writings.....
2 peter 3:15-16
Remeber all scripture is inspired
2 timothy 3:16

Wright says we have to be able to see from Paul's point of view as a first Century Jew, when we read Romans.
That is absolutely correct. (imho) Paul was a Jew, a "Hebrew of Hebrews" who was taught by one of the most eminent Jewish scholars of his day; Gamaliel. (Acts 5:34; 22:3)
An unfortunate development in western theology was when Augustine of Hippo interpreted Paul as if he was teaching from a Platonist and neo-Platonist perspective. That error has sadly tainted all of western theological thought.

I studied Exodus and the Prophets quite diligently (2017) in a Bible Study Group. This year(2018) I aim to understand Paul much more.

I doubt that you are qualified to critique Paul's teaching.
BUt that's just me.:shrug

"THEY" cut and paste???
Who are "they."
Paul wrote Romans.
Are you accusing Paul of teaching "fake faith" and "greasy doctrine"?
What credentials do you have that demonstrate you to have a better understanding of the gospel and scripture than the apostle Paul?
Specifically those that teach a false gospel of faith without repentence for salvation!!!!!!
Also those who teach faith without sacrifice and committment...as Christ said....
Luke 14:26
Usually use half scriptures in Romans are other books....taken out of context......
All i am saying is you cant have faith without a relationship with Christ
Actually Paul didnt write romans
GOd did through the Holy Spirit
2 peter 1:20-21

Romans is my favourite book of the bible because I relate to Paul so much and you know exactly what he’s talking about because you just click and understand him....or you don’t.

I’ve personally never understood any branch of the HRM or why they have such a hatred for our dear and beloved brother Paul. I can’t also for the life of me understand why they believe Paul is a false apostle, OR why he would be allowed to part if the cannon and that God would actually try to purposely deceive his own is an absurd notion and not worthy of entertaining such thoughts that obviously do not come from God.

There is nothing I could add nor anything I could change.....nor would I want to. it was written by the Holy Spirit and I understand it in that context. Trying to explain what Romans says is futile by the flesh. Learning from theologians is an insult to the Holy Spirit, in whom we have our teaching (1 John 2:26-28) (John 14:26). Men can point out Scripture or plant and water, but it is only God who gives the increase (1 Cor. 3:6-8)

I hope to reach that stage this year (2018).

imo romans, galatians, and hebrews are important - if they are interpreted in line with what Jesus said and did - iow how did Jesus live and what did Jesus say is important

if romans, galatians, and hebrews can be read in that context it is really life-changing

I near not know where to start on the importance of the book of Romans to the entirety of the gospel of God.
First I will bring your attention to Gal 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. Gal 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Next I want to point out that what we read of Paul’s writing is something hid from ages and generations, and this included all the other apostles. Peter said this of Paul’s epistles in 2Pe 3:16, As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood . . .

Col 1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

How important is this portion of the fulfilled word of God to us? Well, in 1 Cor 11:1 we read: Be ye followers of me (Paul), even as I also am of Christ.
Why? Rom 2:16. In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

When I was a teenager I first read the Book of Romans through this book. "How to be a Christian without being religious". The bible version used is similar to "the Message" so more critical readers will want to use a better bible.

The Book of Romans opened my eyes to God's grace. That it was faith in the person Jesus who saves us, not doing good works or going to a certain church.

That and unlike the murder mystery or si-fi book they love they do not want to place that scripture into the context of that book, let alone putting in the context of all scripture.

Praise God for the truth!

Mere intellectual belief does not save you. Authentic faith, real faith produces good works anyway. The package deal of salvation. God is not interested in mere lip service such as "I believe". He wants to see our faith become manifest..
