Mere intellectual belief does not save you. Authentic faith, real faith produces good works anyway. The package deal of salvation. God is not interested in mere lip service such as "I believe". He wants to see our faith become manifest..
Amen. A true Christian will want to seek to please God out of love for him. Out of gratitude, not fear.
When we realise we are no longer condemned by God because we believe in Jesus, we will walk in the Spirit, not flesh. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+8:1&version=KJV
A changed heart produces a changed life.

I read somewhere that Catholics and Protestants actually agree on Salvation but use different terminology.
I understand enough of the Book of Job to know, that works alone don't get us into Heaven.
If I am kind to my wife because I think this will earn me brownie points with God, I am totally off track.
Its like someone who chooses volunteer work because that will earn merit with God. Wrong again.
He wants our hearts, out attitude. We will be kind naturally because we want to be kind. For love's sake not for any extrinsic reward.

And it is done by rebirth of the Holy Spirit...not by self will. You might say, "It's an inside job," (1 Cor. 12:1-31).

Yeah I know self-will is not as important. But God requires something on our part to get things moving at the start. So we become co-creators until He takes over completely.
I get the impression ,not just from this post, but overall, that posters who believe 'sola scriptura" are afraid to speak outside the parameters of the Bible. God doesn't mind us having an opinion as long as we don't take ourselves too seriously. :)

Hi Sky, I don't believe that. The only thing on our part is to repent or agree with God about His description of ourselves. That is what hinders the maturity or growth of the Christian. Thinking we are co-creators. having our opinion or (self will worship) hinders the Gospel and work of the Holy Spirit. If a man would really seek God with the Spirit he was born with (if indeed he has the Spirit), Then He would be ashamed of all the misinformation he has put out there that is not Scriptural and the pride of so called knowledge that they themselves have added by their OWN authority. The only way God takes over completely is to worship Him. Most people don't. They say thanks, I'll take it from here!

I believe some of the sola scriptura. Doctrines have been taken to the extreme to nullify prophecies dreams visions and words from God for guidance in certain situations that God would speak to us!!!!!!!!

FOr doctrinal purposes....scripture only!!!!!!
But for guidance you have to have some kinda prophetic word from the Lord!!!
Example: How would you know if God is telling you to minister to a neighbor or even stranger
Or like Paul calling you to a certain ministry, church or overseas country!!!!!!
Or how would God tell you to pray for a family member if you do not believe God speaks to you as He spoke to His followers in the 1st century!!!!!!

Hi Doug
I think I mentioned just at the outset. Our aim is to become like Saints and become totally transformed. Jesus working in us to become more like Jesus.
But our uniqueness is a gift from God. Our brain is a gift from God. Faith and Reason. Not just faith. We aren't meant to be cookie cutter Christians. Diversity is good. We are all different.

I tend to agree. Keeping an open mind about how and when God speaks to us.

When we realise we are no longer condemned by God because we believe in Jesus,
Are we condemned though? I think God makes allowances for sheer ignorance. He doesn't hate us until such time as we accept Him as Saviour. He hates the sin we commit but His steadfast love is waiting patiently for us to turn to Him.

Hi Traveling, I'm not sure what sola scriptura doctrine is? But this I do know for sure. All Scripture is God breathed (in it's original text), and that includes the work of the Holy Spirit that Scripture points to and confirms. But in no way will the Holy Spirit use us in a way that is contrary to Scripture or Scripture doctrine. We don't use the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit works through us. We don't decide that what we do that we THINK is good and blame it on the Holy Spirit, but the fellowship of the believer with the Lord works through us to accomplish the work of the Lord.....we are a vessel for the Lord. Of course God speaks to us. He has spoken to me and taught me personally....really.
A peace in the Lords work in me (us)
Amen.

Yes.....and yet, we are all the same. (Romans 3:9-11)

The book of Romans is all about Gods righteousness as our faith rest in that of Christ Jesus through His life, death and resurrection. It delves more into the death and resurrection of Christ and what that means to us through the confession of our faith in Him and how we walk in the Spirit of God.

It is clear that Luther was not dismissing the authority of “the words of men” but rather submitting them to what he regarded as a higher authority, “the truth of Scripture.” Throughout his ministry Luther would cite the fathers and the creeds and even some decisions of the early church councils in support of his teaching, but he did not consider them decisive. Yet they were also more than merely illustrative. Insofar as they faithfully expressed the teaching of Scripture, they were to be regarded as authoritative. Scripture was not the only authority but rather the final authority.

Romans 1:19 KJV
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Without these verses we would always wonder why Jesus talked about seeds

And giving God our hearts will be demonstrated by our actions.
Actions do not earn brownie points; they are don in obedience to our Lord.
If someone says he believes but does not obey the Lord's commands then he, in fact, does not believe and Jesus is, in fact, not his Lord.
