I saw this question on another forum. Most Christians believe this is a work of labor for the Believer to accomplish.

God has chosen to operate His work from the basis of faith. "The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:2) is God's prescribed order of victory for the Believer over sin, the world, the flesh, and the Devil. This means that the Believer must place and maintain proper Faith the size of a mustard seed exclusively in Christ (who He is) and His Finished Work (what He has done), i.e., The Cross, i.e., The Blood of Jesus. Why? Because whatsoever that is not faith is sin. By doing so this enters the Believer into justification and progressive sanctification that gives the Holy Spirit the legal means to keep all commandments and all laws that is impossible for us to do. The Holy Spirit renews the mind when Faith is placed and maintained in Christ and Him Crucified. Why? Because we are now operating in the spirit. The presenting of your body as a living sacrifice and the renewing of the mind is not a Christian discipline nor a work of labor, but an act of Faith to believe only - daily. No Believer can fix the flesh with the flesh. All fruits that are added to the leaves of the Believer most be done by the Holy Spirit or you enter the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21).

The Holy Spirit, He Works strictly within the parameters of the "Finished Work" i.e., "the Cross of Christ", which demands that our Faith be exclusively in the Cross of Christ. The reason is simple, that's were the price was paid, and the victory was forever won (Romans 6:1-14; 1 Cor. 2:2; Gal. 5; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 2:13-18; Col. 2:14-15).

For whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23)

The Law Of The Spirit Of Life In Christ Jesus gives the Believer victory over the world, the flesh, and the Devil.

Victory over the world: Galatians 6:14 ; 1 John 5:4
Victory over the flesh: Galatians 5:24
Victory over the Devil: Hebrews 2:14 ; Colossians 2:15

How does a Believer maintain faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross? By just believing in Jesus (who He is) and what He accomplished at Calvary Cross. Romans 4:5 - Galatians 2:19-21 NKJV - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 NKJV - Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV

We maintain faith which is Christ Jesus as we believe in the finished works of the cross as we seek those things from above and not the things of the earth as we have been risen with Him as we are dead to self and our life is hid with Christ in God. , Colossians 3:1-4.

Just a note* Once a man is regenerated by repentance by faith in Christ. Faith is also given as a gift.(Luke 17:4-6) (1 Cor. 12:9) This is a reassurance of safety and confidence by the presence of the Spirit. This is different from just man having faith. Having faith can be prideful and arrogance by men. (1 Cor. 13.2) .

good point, Douglas Summers. I'm reminded of how a friend told me that it's --God-- who "puts off the old, and puts on the new" following repentance.

Amen - Amen! That is why I stated, "All fruits that are added to the leaves of the Believer most be done by the Holy Spirit or you enter the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21)."

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption (1 Cor. 15:50). Seeking is not a "work of labor (Zechariah 4:6)", but a act of Faith in Christ (Hebrews 11:6). Believing Who He is - and what He has done.

What is sad, is that until a man can see for himself what he is by nature, he has no idea what Christ has done for him. And to them, joining a church is like joining a social club. It is just something you do on Sunday with the neighbors. Like the Church of Loadicea.

This is why we as followers of Christ must teach God's prescribe order of victory (Romans 8:2) with kindness and graciousness so we (Christians) don't enter into the sin of sectarianism; believing that if you are not associated with me, you are not saved, or else, at the best, a second-class Christian, as if there were such a thing (Luke 9:49-50). No effort is to be made to hinder anyone from attempting to do the Work of God even if they disagree.

Hi iLOVE, This is not something that has to be told to do or not do for the born again believer, because it is our new nature, (the heredity of the new nature, (The Love of Christ) (1 Cor. 13:1-13). But neither are we to allow (in the body of Christ) false teachers and heresies, or to associate with those who say they are brothers that live contrary to the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 5:10-12) The body is to be kept clean. (2 Cor. 6:15-18) (1 Cor. 5:1-13) (1 Cor. 6:1-11) Please read the Scriptures, they say so much more.

Brother DS, Most sins that we commit are kept behind the curtain by God (thank God for His mercy), but when God makes a sin(s) public (Paul said even the Gentiles know this is not to be done), something we can see, there is greater testing involved. When Nathan confronted David about his sin with Bathsheba it was done with kindness and graciousness. Many had no mercy and refused to forgive David after he had already repented. Those who failed to forgive David such as Ahitophel, Bathsheba grandfather committed suicide after joining Absalom, and later some seventy thousand men died when David took the census.

The Apostle Paul makes it very clear once a Believer has repented the Church must forgive, confirm, and restore so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes. (2 Cor. 2:5-11). We must move forward with mercy and grace and not hold these past sin(s) over their heads making us now self-righteous.

Commanding someone to forgive seems strange to the born again believer because it is a carnal command, true forgiveness comes from the Spirit of Christ and the new nature, but I understand what you mean. Here is the real problem with a carnal act of forgiveness. It does not expect the sinner to repent (Luke 17:3-4). Many in the visible church say they forgive to show they are like Christ, it is an act of pride and they are nothing like Christ. I knew a pastor who let the music program be run by a man and women that were living together. Forgiveness without repentance.

Here is something we need to be careful of, there is no mercy for those who preach another gospel than the Gospel of Christ in how one is saved. It is so important that a man is saved by faith in God's grace that The Spirit condemns the other gospel twice. (Gal. 1:6-9) Which is not the Gospel!

...the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).

The new creation continues to live with corruption (the sin nature) (1 Corinthians 15:53) until the rapture of the Church. However, the younger (the new creation) is greater than the elder (the sin nature) (Genesis 25:23). Why? Because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4, Romans 6). We are still dying which shows that the sin nature lives in us. If the sin nature did not live in the Christian we would not age or die.

A man is not defined by what he says. A man is defined by what he does. If we have confessed belief and faith in our Lord and Savior, then we will walk in it. Dead to self as one wise poster put it. That means for real. That is Christ in us, and beside us...Help me Lord...It's not, pray in the morning be with me Lord, and then ignore His presence all day and make decisions on my own. That's walking in the flesh, not done in faith, and is sin. It is not abiding in Him. It is not being Spirit led.

Ones mind is renewed when and if we walk with Him, we don't do nothing without asking His help and guidance. I do not go out alone anymore. I ask His help more and more. It's amazing how when I do, something pops in my head. That do. Sometimes I'll get a check in my Spirit when I'm about to make a mistake. Sometimes I go ahead and do what I want, sometimes I do what He wants. I'm withdrawing from the world more and more. He leads me to pray more, worship more, and always keep an attitude of love within my heart and spirit.

I fail daily. That that I would do, I do not, and that that I would not do that I do. I then carry guilt until I pick myself up and confess these to the Lord, who is faithful to forgive. Then I am in Him once again. So it does take an active participation on our part. In a manner of speaking, it could be construed as works. In another manner of speaking, it is not. I am getting better, and I am drawing closer to the Lord. By the grace of God. We must be obedient to the Spirit. Hearing Him is usually as easy as listening to my conscience and always doing the good thing.

It's kinda funny, but it seems as if the more I ask for His help during the day, the faster He answers me! I like that.

That is what it is to be born again, You described exactly how the Spirit indwell me. Always either leading, excusing or accusing me in my life. My sheep hear my voice and know it, they run away from unfamiliar voices. (John 10:4) (John 10:26-28)

Great post Edward.
I used to get a bit tense about my struggles until I was told to just 'love the Love that loves me'. Doing this throughout the day is so loving, gentle, and so close to the LORD all seems to go according to His plan. Obedience becomes a desire as opposed to a chore. Well, that is how it is for me.

And why not? Same Spirit. Who wouldn't want to walk in this? I can not believe that good well intentioned Brothers and Sisters tried to discourage me from this. As if I might get seized by dark spirits accidentally or something, lol! I also can't believe how hard I used to think it was to hear God's voice!. I just only listened to what I wanted Him to say and ignored the rest. Well, He almost never says that, lol...When I became little and humbled myself then I could hear Him fine. I strive to not ignore that my best friend is with me.

I am my own worst enemy, not Satan or his minions. We have seen the enemy, and he is us!

Here we go Brothers and Sisters...it's a new day! Thank the Lord for that! :sohappy

Me too Brother, me too!!

The way I figure it, I am prime for a visit from Jesus. One day, He's going to walk into my room and right up to me. I want to be ready, and to be clean...so that I will be able to stand before Him, and speak. This is the early morning on the 7th day since creation...the Sabbath, and we are His temple.

Luke 4:15-16
15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.../

He reads to me throughout the day. Just like scripture says He will. He brings scriptures to my remembrance. :study
