Hey all, now that I am engaged I just had a question for you married folk out there. How long where you engaged before you got married?

We are probably going to be at about 11 months as we will get married as soon as I graduate from college.

I got engaged in Nov and was married in August so that's about 9 moths right....It was nice getting everything arranged quickly and not having too long to fret about things. Once I chose something for the wedding I really didn't have time to change my mind. Congrats again.

I was engaged for just under a year. I proposed in late summer, and my fiancee wanted a summer wedding. We did not need that long, but we selected a place and found which weekends were available, then saw when the priest was available, then the DJ, and so on until there was one date left. The toughest part was ensuring the things we wanted were available on the same date.

I know someone who became engaged late last year, but is not getting married until next summer (he lives in Manhatten, she is outside Philly, so there are the logistics of moving, and the woes that come with planning a wedding in a larger city).

Congrats!

Same for me, Logan. I'm proposing in 10 days and we'll be married sometime next May.

Well, we kinda didn't want to get roped into helping our parents plan their wedding..oops I meant our wedding  So we basically told our parents we were engaged, and then secretly got married a week later. By the time they found out, there was nothing they could do about it Bwahaha! (My dad was probably happier he didn't have to pay right? )

Proposed in August, married the next May. We just had our 12th anniversary.

Umm...2 days? He proposed on my 18th birthday and we got married 2 days later after I told my parents and we got in a huge fight and they forbid me to ever see my best friend again so we went and got married at the courthouse the next day out of desperation/spite. Ive never been sorry THAT I married Aaron, but I wish we would have just tried to wait and see if they would cool off, maybe things would be different with them now if we had. Id like to have a real wedding eventualy to, we had planned on doing that after we graduated college but then Alexander came along so maybe for like our 10th aniversary or something. Our second anniversary is next Wednesday actualy.

Mine was about 6 months. I have heard that the best engagement length time is 6 months to one year. Too short and you don't have enough time to be organized and longer than a year can be stressful on the relationship.

If the dating period was fairly long (one year or more), a shorter engagement is good as long you can get all you want done in that time.
