Dave,
I know many men who wear rings, whether they be class rings or just a simple ring for adornement. Typically I don't notice it unless they specifically point it out, or unless is ridiculously gawdy, and that is where I find the issue. Those who wear rings that mean something to them, whether it be in remembrance of a sports achievement, a gift from someone special, or a family memento, I have no problem. If the intent is to draw attention to yourself? Therein lies the underlying issue.
I take the same stance with earrings for the record, I have never made an issue of it as I don't see it as a salvation issue, with the exception being, if the intent is to bring attention to yourself.
I personally have a class ring which has turned into one of my best dust catchers! I can't honestly remember the last time I had on my hand. I have a wedding band, and that is the only jewelry I wear.
Ironically enough, speaking of catching the attention of someone with jewelry..... if I take my wedding band off for whatever reason (working around the house) that is the only time it draws the attention of my wife! She never glances at my hand when it's on, but if I take it off, she notices right away!
Does this contradict my argument?
lol
pdpilgrim78:

Some women don't really feel dressed to go out unless they have first inserted rings through their earlobes.

(My wife doesn't feel dressed to go out unless she has 'put on her face' !)

Blessings.

Well, I represent Christ through my lyrics so... :tongue

TY for helping me understand more guys.

Blessings.

Why would she care. You're doing what you can to keep it clean or not lose it.

I'm assuming it's in the off-chance that while I'm in the backyard mowing, a gaggle of single women walk by our fenced in yard and notice me without my ring and take a chance to hit on me?

That or she somehow thinks that my love for her can only be infused while the ring sits upon my finger?
Not sure?

To refer to the gold/silver distinction, I'm sure there are various views and personal tastes in the gold / silver thing.

This is true.
@Dave :

The point was also that in the US Navy silver pierced studs and gold ones are one of the specific dress code means of distinguishing between women who are commissioned and those who are not.

When a woman in the navy gets a commission it must be a meaningful rite of passage when in uniform to insert the gold studs into her earlobes for the first time, in the place of the silver ones.

Blessings.

For the sake of my wonderful wife I keep my wedding ring on pretty well all the time. :)

(I guess we've digressed a bit from ears to fingers... )

Blessings.

@farouk ... in essence to thread..are you getting your ear pierced because the world thinks it's cool or because you're showing you are a servant of Christ? Thoughts?
@Dave :

To respond specifically to this part of your post:

I guess that a lot of Christians would not necessarily internalize the question at such a theoretical level, really. I guess also the same question could be asked of Christian women also. But I reckon also that anyone who thinks that Christian women — godly and modest ones — are going to stop piercing their ears and wearing earrings until they have internalized such theories, is likely to be mistaken.

But I agree that the bondservant doctrine (pointing to God's perfect Servant Who was obedient unto death) has little to do with the contemporary custom of ear piercing. It's just that the very existence of the Old Testament symbolism of bonsdervant ear piercing makes it rather hard to criticize the practice per se.

(Two cents.')

Hope this makes some sort of sense.

Blessings.

I saw some wolf earrings at a store up here. Almost bought them, but I don't have pierced ears yet and it's not a certainty I ever will.

farouk, post that link and I want to see if that isn't a hack site or just bad info. I don't think it right. any quote of uniforms regs will include the very reg. If post info on army appearance and proper wear of the uniform , ar 600-27 or a pam with a reference to it will be in that post. or new reg.

Hi jasoncran:

I have enlarged, below, the source from which it came:

Women. One earring per ear (centered on earlobe) may be worn while in uniform. Earrings shall be 4mm - 6mm ball (approximately 1/8 - 1/4 inch), plain with shiny or brushed matte finish, screw on or with posts. Gold for officers/CPOs, and silver for enlisted personnel. Small single pearl earrings are authorized for wear with Dinner and Formal Dress uniforms. (qu. navyformoms dot com / persnet dot navy dot mil )

Nervous of the needle or gun, maybe? (A lot of people are, actually...)

Hi jasoncran:

Pull up http://persnet.navy.mil and type 'earrings' in the search.

Blessings.

If I see my old navy reservist coworker that retired at the same rank Im at. I will ask him for the navy reg. using ehow may be off. the other services do have dress uniforms and formal dinners. I don't see why the airforce nor army don't have the same regs.

I think people (girls especially) are getting pierced younger nowdays, but overall there's less expectation that one would get their ears pierced.

Hi Nick: I'm a great believer in people doing their own thing; rather than pressure to pierce ears or pressure not to, people need to do their own thing, right?

Blessings.

...So it's not as if I'm anti ring period! ...
@pdpilgrim78 : FYI: Not that I necessarily advocate it, but among hundreds of millions of Hispanic people is it in fact the custom for nurses on a maternity ward to pierce all the girls' ears, unless the parents specifically opt out their daughters. The practice is kind of integral to many people's culture.

Blessings.
