How Many People Still Use Landlines?

I hate to break it to you but just because you use a cellphone, doesn't mean that it's going to keep the solicitors quiet. They still find ways to irritate you unfortunately. :rolleyes

You got that right, but not as much as a landline. Anyone can get your cell number as nothing is private anymore.

I figured that phones these days are pretty much considered technology so I was just really curious since this question came up in my Zumba class the other night. We were talking about how nobody really visits each other anymore and everybody is on their cellphones 24 hour 7 even when they are in the same room with that same person that you are talking to. Now we absolutely refuse to cancel our land line because we find them a lot more reliable than cellphones so I was just curious who else feels the same way.
Remember when people sat around the fireplace and told stories or spoke about the past? I'm really close to it.

And I like my phones to have a cord attached to them.
And I like to visit people. Have coffee and talk about things.
Even if there is no fireplace...

Hey guys this topic made me think of this video. :lol This is so hilarious yet so surprisingly accurate at the same time. Hopefully this isn't too offensive.

We still have a landline here. Mostly because we use it for our DSL connection. If we could get DSL without purchasing the phone service we would. Our DSL provides unlimited data which is good for video streaming. The only other option we have right now is satellite and that would be considerably more expensive for the video streaming we would need.

Another reason we still have a landline is because it is still listed in the local phone book so our neighbors can find a number to reach us. Unfortunately, cell phone numbers are not listed so anyone wanting to contact us by phone needs us to provide them with a number.

Even if there is no fireplace...
And even write letters instead of sms

sms's are ruing our young generation.
They can hardly keep a conversation going anymore.
Someday we'll be talking sms...
:shame

Agreed, it seems that we are taking a step backwards in socalization if you ask me. Did you watch the video that I posted yet by any chance?

Yeah. I did.
It was cracking me up.
It's really true too. About how it used to be. Looking at real life is always funny.
How could you need to see anyone when you could be in touch every moment of the day.

The phone changed things too. Before you had to go to someone's house to talk to them.

Now you could keep in touch every moment. I think this must be bad for relationships. In Hollywood they call it over-exposure....
What do you think?
This might make a good thread.
Go for it HeisRisen. You like to start threads...

Since this topic is basically all about phones, I was just curious about another question. For you cellphone users do you still take pictures with an actual camera or do you just snap selfies and stuff with your phones? I am asking this question because my mom still has a camera. She doesn't need to go get developed, she just uploads it on her computer, but she's like me in the sense that she is pretty much lost when it comes to texting and taking pictures on her cell.

I use both and trust me a dlsr is far, far better then many smart phones, depending the mpg of the camera in question.you can buy a zoom lense for the smart phone but again a dslr has no mirrors and also has the ability to open a much larger aperterture. it depends on what you are photographing.the photos here are taken with a dlsr

I must confess, I still pay for a landline that I unplugged four months ago. I got sick of all the daily phone solicitors. The silence has been golden indeed. Now I need to go and cancel that line, thanks for the reminder! :yes
Amen! We cut our landlines years ago. I was a bit hesitant, but I haven't regretted it once. When people we knew wanted to reach us, they called our cells. When solicitors wanted to, they called our landlines. We were paying for solicitors!

I think there are more stringent laws about solicitors calling cell numbers, but they occasionally come. It takes about 5 seconds to block them on my cell. Not so easy on a landlines.

I don't use them. Landlines are limited in mobility and can only be used within the range of the cord or cable. On the other hand, cellphones provide mobility and can be used anywhere with a cellular signal. They are also convenient for texting, internet access, and other features. It's true that their reliability can be affected by several factors. However, they stopped being a problem after I learned how to generate temporary phone number. Ultimately, the choice between a landline and a cellphone depends on personal preference and needs. Some people may prefer the reliability of a landline, while others may prioritize the convenience and mobility of a cellphone.

Funny, I feel like landlines are more convenient...
but mobile phones are more reliable.

Sometimes the electricity goes out and when that happens the landlines don't work.
They ARE plugged into electrical outlets.
If the mobile phone is charged up, it's very reliable.
