Come on.....

Everybody has at least said it once right????

Even if just for a scientific experiement....????

Soma, the sinner's prayer is just standard. The Lord called me long before I knew of a standardized prayer for salvation. The "Sinner's Prayer" is from non-believers who don't know where to start. Some do, and they have followed God's hand through there own prayer of salvation.

If you have truthfully HAD to say the "Sinner's Prayer" more than once, than I am sorry to say you ought to really question your salvation.

Many say it voluntarily many times, but it is not in the same context. If you said it earnestly the first time, you have been forgiven fully and have your salvation. As Christ said, "He who the Son sets free is free indeed!"
It means that once you submit yourself to the truth, that's it. Everything else, the spiritual growth, the theological growth of your knowledge of God, is second to you dependence on the power of Christ to accomplish these things.

I wrote this because I am certain that you do not fully understand the gift salvation that comes from Christ Jesus, Soma. Saying a sinner's prayer in a generic form has no meaning, no power, no grace, no mercy and no salvation. Christ's salvation is intimate and personal, and faith is not born of your "scientific experiments" because with God, faith is certain.

And I continue with this, for those Soma is attempting to challenge, mislead, or question. A sinner's prayer is a prayer made from any one still alive. All are sinner's, you don't graduate into a Christian. Perfection comes from walking close to your precious Lord, Jesus Christ. If you recognize that you are a sinner, not worthy of salvation, and that Christ is indeed fully God, and if you believe that He gave his full measure of love, his very life, for you, and if you belive that God raised him to live again and forever, than you are saved. Rely on Christ forever, and he will work with you and through you to see to it that one day, no one will ever be able to say that you are a sinner.

Soma, be careful how you play your game, because you dance closely with fully confronting Christ. When you finally realize what you are doing, it will be terrible all the more for you. I have my own prayer for you.

For all my brothers and sisters, and anyone who want's to be a brother or sister with us (please, respectively), I cheerfully extend my words as usual, always posted below.

lol,

Too late for that.....

Seriously though... to me the Sinner's prayer is a good prayer to bring down prideful notions and illusions of grandeur....

Whenever I think I am approaching Sainthood I just ask God to "school me" in what I am doing WRONG at the moment....

He never dissapoints..... :-?

When I realize how selfish or evil I am acting I beg God for mercy and ask that He may make me a new creature through the Spirit..... (many times this happens while I am driving and have time to think)

There is nothing wrong with the Sinner's prayer as it is the ultimate form of humilty in any religion I have looked into..... (for me personally)

So dont take me wrong.. I am not "knocking" this prayer at all!!!! It is very useful but hard on the ego....

I am surprised more people are not voting in the 100's.... I though that was the bread and butter of Evangelism????????

Since you asked for a response on the Evangelical note, I'll reply.

As one who is looking to serve our Father in Evangelism, I will say that a "sinner's prayer" is a numbers gimic. Honestly, Billy Graham has inspired millions to say the "sinner's prayer", but God alone knows how many truly ment it.

Salvation isn't a prayer, or else we'd all believe in grace through works. That clearly isn't scriptural. Salvation is far deeper than any work of man can fathom or be used to obtain.

If you've said it 100+ times, Soma, then fine. However, I'd like to see my fruit measured in God's eyes, not mans. 8-)

If you dont "confess" Jesus and "bow" to Him you are not saved!!!

If what you are saying is true than many pagans will be in Heaven if you dont have to "change" anything about your life or make a stand.....

You must PRAY for GRACE in my humble estimation!

I've NEVER said the sinner's prayer - cos no where does it say in the bible to 'recite the sinner's prayer and you'll be saved'.

No, but it does say, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with the heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10 [NIV]) The only way to confess to God with your mouth is through prayer. Hence the "sinner's prayer."

I think the closest passage that even comes close to that is...

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

I'm not a tamberine pounding Baptists, I don't need the sinner's prayer.

I have the Apostles and their Church. I have Jesus Christ, not false hopes.

I like how you say the 'hence the sinner's prayer' like it's actually biblical or something.

Ha ha haaaaaaaaaa.

Confessing with your mouth the Lord Jesus isn't the sinner's prayer.

I'm so so so soooooooooo glad I haven't be indoctrinated with all this stuff! Stick with what the bible says - is my motto, can't go wrong that way ;)

It just says 'confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus' it doesn't say...confess with your mouth that you are a sinner and need saving and beg the lord to save you.

Come on now! Stick to what hte bible ACTUALLY SAYS. It says..."Confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that god has raised him from the dead".

That's what it says - adding to that is just adding! Taking away from that is just taking away. Sticking to that is what will get you saved.

I have never said the "sinner's prayer" but I have prayed as a sinner. God saved me when he drew me to himself by the truth revealed to me by the Holy Spirit, that Jesus Christ had died for my sins and was resurrected from the dead. When I was given the faith to believe I was saved. I was born of God at that moment.

I have led people to Jesus Christ as God drew them, and I have prayed with them. They have also prayed thanking God for His salvation and forgiveness.

Calm down now. ;-) You forgot Romans 10:10

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

If we are not confessing our sins, or at least our sin nature, what are we confessing?

We must all come to the Lord, ready to empty our heart of our transgressions.

By the Book.

Where does it say confess your sins in that scripture?

That scripture is saying the same as the other one - nothing there is said about confessing your sins as a sinner. It says confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and beleive in your heart that God has raised him from the dead and ye shall be saved - then...in your verse you quoted it says confession is made unto salvation. Well duh! That's what the first one said...;)

Merry, we agree with you. We know that by simply saying words one cannot get saved. God grants salvation based on what one truly believes in their hearts. "...And with their hearts are justified." What we are saying is that before one can be saved, one must realize that they are a sinner in need of God's grace. Before one can admit that one is a sinner and before one confesses that sinful nature to God, God will not grant salvation. If someone is just going to say that they have faith that Jesus died on the cross, yet they don't humble themselves by saying why Jesus died, then they are having a change of mind, not a change of heart. It's the heart that matters.

Thanks CLY. Again, I say this passage is the CLOSEST to what is commonly called, "the Sinner's Prayer". I'm not arguing that it is a prayer. It is a proclamation though.
