I thought only the mods/administrators could post those.

What do you mean? Alerts are notifications. Do you mean tags?

The word alert shows up in the upper right corner... when someone posts a new thread or posts to a thread you are watching,,,, I dont believe 'alert' show to the posting member but to the readers..

Go into your profile and click on "preferences". Find this, "Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply..." .and uncheck the box to the left.

    That should do it..................................................................maybe.

You may be getting alerts for threads that you have previously chosen to watch, before you made the alert preference changes.

Not sure what else to think of.

But...does it really matter? You don't have to read the alerts.

Maybe you're not aware of this, WalterandDebbie, you don't have to click on the alert button to see them. If you mouse over the alert it will drop down so you can see what alerts there are and only click on those that you wish to view.
