This thread i hope many will post habits that they have and want to get rid of. An Others who have experience with those bad habits can respond with positive encouraging methods to overcome the bad habit.

To Start things off...My Bad habits will be litted please Quote if you have a method to break the habit/s.

1) I suck my thumb (I'm 21 years old i hate it)
2) Cursing (Sometimes i let them slip especially when frustrated)
3) I get angry quickly when i feel i'm being ignored
4) Spend money on things i don't need (And not have money for the things i need)

God bless everyone willing to make a positive change and help others make a positive change.:pray

Hey there! :wave It's good to see a fellow 21 year old here! (I am 21 myself)

I think I might be able to help here.

1. I know habits suck, but this is something that you need to fix going cold turkey. You control your brain right? I know I know, it's not that simple. Instead, whenever you think about sucking your thumb, have a plan set in motion to replace it. For example, do something that will require the use of your thumb. Something that will not enable you to indulge the habit.

2. Remember back in grade school when they told you to say "shoot", instead of...Well...You know what I mean. Do exactly that. Work on trying to replace those words with different ones. Start with one word at a time, then work your way down.

3. This can be related with the first one. Whenever you begin to feel angry, do something that will take your mind off of it. If you aren't in a situation where you can do so, then you may have to instill some sort of self control. Come up with some sort of fail safe that will stop you from getting angry. Most importantly, keep reminding yourself to stay calm.

4.Welcome to young adult hood :). We actually have a biological mechanism in our brain that stops us from thinking things through. In fact, we make decisions most of the time without thinking at all. When you are thinking of making a big financial purchase, write down on a piece of paper the pros/cons. For example, you want to buy a car. If you spent all of your money on a car, you wont have rent. If you don't have rent, you cant live properly. See where I am going with this? Hopefully that will help a little.

Lastly, make sure to pray to God. You don't have to do this alone, he doesn't expect you to. Make sure he is with you in your daily activity, even if everything is going well. He wants you to call on him in the good times too, not just the bad.

I got into the habit of swearing within the past year. But 99.9% of the time it's when nobody else can hear me.
I used to say the alternate versions of the words, like "dang", and I still do when there are other people around.
To be honest it doesn't bother me all that much (as I'm not entirely convinced it's actually sinful), but I know it doesn't reflect well on myself as a Christian so I know I should at least make an effort to stop, if only because we are supposed to avoid the appearance of evil. (And I don't say any of the especially vulgar words, but still.)

P.S.
A bigger problem of mine, and one that has caused me a lot of grief in the past couple of years, is my tendency towards laziness. I've improved on this a lot already, but still have tendencies to take any excuse I can get away with.
It's one of the things about myself that bothers me the most, and I end up stressing myself out over it.

Bwahaah :) I can totally relate on 2 and 3! Cursing can be a stickler to get rid of. But as for number three, I used to feel bad when my professors didn't know my name :sad. But then I realized that even if no one knows my name, a great and mighty God does :)! That definitely helped me feel a lot better, especially when people kind of ignore me or are rude.

And on overspending, I can relate :tongue. For me, if I go shopping I pay with cash so spending money feels a little more 'real' to me as opposed to a credit card. I also check my account balances and review statements frequently to get a feel on my spending habits.

But what helped most was making a mental list of all the things I could buy with the amount of money I'm spending. Like how a shirt costs $20 but with the same amount of money you could go have dinner with friends and buy a book or something haha.

My bad habits are:

1. Sometimes when I should be doing homework, I can't resist playing a game or two of league of legends -.- and I lose my focus and waste time...

2. I have social anxiety :x so sometimes I hesitate awkwardly and wait when I see someone I want to talk to. They end up leaving and I'm like 'ahhhhhh :S' bwahaaha I sound like a real cave dweller T.T

3. Cussing when I stub my toe! Arrghh :nono2
