Our humanity is determined by the human life we possess; and not by our shape, size, color, appearance or abilities. This is very evident by the fact that irrespective of who we are; when we die our body becomes a mere corpse. Human life is a human life-force within every living human being. This force forms, directs and sustains our state as a live human being. It does this by directing and coordinating our thoughts, words, actions and physiology. It is, therefore, the life of our whole being and the soul of our humanity. Therefore, for our body to be a human person we must have human life. We received this life at conception, when we were in our embryonic stage of life. Although we were just an embryo then, we were still a human being; because we were a distinct living entity with human genes and human life. The distinctiveness of the life of an embryo is evident by the fact it has genetic make up that is totally different from the mother; and it can survive in a test tube out side the mother. Furthermore, the life we have today is the same life we had as an embryo. This life, which began when we were conceived, continued without any interruption as we went through successive stages of development. Therefore, since we are a human person today, we were also a human person as an embryo.

An unfertilized ovum will remain only an ovum (just like any other cell in our body) until it dies. However, if it is fertilized (which occurs at conception) human life-force enters the cell; which immediately lays the framework for the entire life of that human being. This means that the newly formed embryo has the foundation of a fully formed human being. Furthermore, the life-force initiates, directs and sustains a process that transforms that being from a single cell embryo to a full grown human being with 10 trillion cells; brain with memory capacity equal to 20,000 computers; and abilities to love, forgive, create, perform and think. This life-force, therefore, is not just the life of that cell, but the life of the entire humanity of that being. Since this life entered our being at conception, we became a human person at conception; and human embryos and fetuses are human persons. Furthermore, the declaration of independence of the United States, states that we are all created equal. Since, the time of our creation is at conception; we have equal rights from the moment of our conception. To destroy a human embryo or fetus, therefore, is to kill a human being and violate the fourteenth amendment.

If one had to build a highly complex space station and keep it operational, it would not happen by simply possessing the blue print and building material; one would need a highly skilled work force. Similarly, to build a fully grown highly intelligent human being and keep him/her operational a highly intelligent life-force is needed; because the mere possession of the genetic codes and building materials are not enough. We can get a faint idea about what human life-force is if we look at ant life-force. Ants do not have brain. They, therefore, can not think, plan or learn. Yet ants are able build complex castles under the ground; find the right type of food; and inform other ants (by releasing chemicals) of the presence of food. They can perform these tasks because the life-force (which some people call as instinct) in them, propels them to perform these tasks.

Some people may argue that it is acceptable to destroy a human embryo because it does not have brain or intelligence. However, the human life-force within a human embryo has more intelligence than the most intelligent human brain. This is evident by the fact that, this life-force can transform a single cell embryo into full grown human being with a very complex brain; a fete no human brain has achieved.

Some people may have an honest doubt about human personhood of embryos and fetuses. However, they must err in favor of them beings human persons; just as we always err in favor of an accused person being innocent of a crime until proven otherwise. It is also similar to a situation where we are on a hunting trip; and are ready to shoot an object we are sure is a deer. However, we hold our fire, because some people around us express concern, that, what we are about to shoot could be a human being.

Some people justify abortion because they want to protect the mother’s right to privacy and choice. However, no one has right over another human being’s life; and to kill another human being is never a choice. Furthermore, the right to life is above all other rights; because without life we do not have any rights.

During the time, when we had slavery in this country, people felt very strong on both sides of the issue. However, people of good will knew that slavery was evil. They, therefore, did not just talk about taking a middle-ground or reducing the number of slaves; they completely abolished it. Abortion or destruction of human beings in their embryonic stage of life is even more evil than slavery and worst crime against humanity, because in both these situations the most helpless human beings are killed. We, therefore, must abolish this practice; and can not just take a middle-ground on this issue.

Some people justify abortion when the mother’s life is in danger. However, since the mother and baby both have equal rights, attempts must be made to save them both. If there is eminent danger to the mother, then the baby, who is in the mother’s womb, is also in danger. Therefore, labor could be induced to save them both. In case of rape and incest it would still be wrong to kill the baby, because the baby is an innocent human being.

Over two hundred years ago we began a new nation by declaring that all men are created equal; but now from that beginning we have run down to the other declaration, that it is acceptable for mothers to have their babies killed in the womb and make human beings in their embryonic stage a commodity by killing them and harvesting their body parts, in "sacred rights of choice, privacy and cure." Our republican robe is soiled and trailed in the dust. Let us re-purify it. ... Let us re-adopt the Declaration of Independence, and with it, the practices, and policy, which harmonize with it. ... If we do this, we shall not only have saved the Union: but we shall have saved it, as to make, and keep it, forever worthy of the saving. (Adopted from Lincoln's Peoria speech, October 1855).

Thank you for your post.

And in the case of an ectopic pregnancy where the baby isn't developed enough to survive labor induction? Ectopic pregnancies are fatal to the mother. What do you suggest in this situation?

Wow so much wrong with the OP here. Let me start by saying:

1. When you say 'lifeforce' what you really mean is "brain".
2. You claim Ants don't have brains, but they do (EDIT: and look at THIS - a fungus that infects Ants' brains!)
3. Fetuses do not develop on their own - they are quite literally parasites. They require the incubator (mother) and the resources (from the mother's body) in order to develop.
4. Our "humanity" is gained through life experience.
5. The Declaration of Independence and subsequently the 14th Amendment also guarantee the right to "liberty" and 'pursuit of happiness." Since Fetuses are incapable of thinking, storing information, etc.. they do not require happiness or liberty, therefore your attempt to paralell the 'plight' of blastocysts and the like is faulty.
6. You state that a fetus has a 'totally different genetic makeup' to that of it's mother. This is not quite accurate. We get 1/2 of our DNA from our mother and 1/2 from our father. In the case of identical twins, they have the exact same DNA - so by your logic, they are not 'distinct from each other.' If I get pregnant with Identical twins, is it okay with you if I abort only one of them?
7. Why do you keep going on about the 'life force'? You know you are talking about the new age concept of Chi, right?. Secondly, you have provided no evidence that 'life begins at conception.' If you have such evidence, please write a scientific paper and have it submitted for peer review. You can knock down abortion with 1 stamp!
8. We only 'err on the side of caution' with someone accused of a crime until they have had their trial. If they are guilty we punish them. Since, to date, no evidence has been provided to show that fetuses and blastocysts are "human", then your claim is faulty.
9. Other reasons for an abortion:
i. Remember that case in Brazil? the 9 year old girl who was a victim of incest? She was pregnant with twins. She could not have carried to term, nor delivered these children. She would have died.
ii. When the fetus is determined to have severe to fatal deformities
iii. As stated, with ectopic pregnancies.

10. So you claim these fetuses have life right? Is it murder when they are stillborn? What about miscarriage? What about if the fetus is absorbed back into the woman's body? What about when the fetus is absorbed by a twin? Is that fetus guilty of murder? Oh man I could go on all day!

11. Who claims abortions are done for "privacy" reasons? This stinks like a month old strawman to me.

And just for the LULZ:
This is evident by the fact that, this life-force can transform a single cell embryo into full grown human being with a very complex brain
LULZ!!!!

Alright that's all for now Back with more when I think of 'em. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.

Sanitarium, what's 'LULZ'?

arunangelo,
I agree that a child in the womb has the right to life, and that both lives should be considered in every situation.

I do agree that both lives should be considered, as well. I understand that people face dire situations where the answer is not an easy one, as well.
