Humility is one of the attributes of a born again believer. Humility comes by the realization of the human character of the nature of mankind. (once I was blind, but now I see). The church in Rome and all it's splendor, Televangelist, Trinity Broadcasting Network, Oral Roberts,(send me 3 million dollars or the Lord will kill me episode), Just to name a few (very few). This world is cluttered with, rather, more like overtaken, with the name it and claim it groups. I use to receive letters from Rev. Ike to send money for a red prayer string for a monetary donation that suppose to work to increase my net worth. (why didn't they use it then?)

We are in the last days, by proof of the seventh Church of Laodicea. The seventh and last church of the seven is the period and practice of the churches of this age. "because thou sayest we are rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing" (Rev. 3:14-19) and is the general attitude of the world council of Churches of this age. I believe the seven churches to be seven different periods or ages that the Church goes through in that order. Pride runs rampant through the visible church. One of the churches I was a member , that some of the women would be loaded down with jewelry The pastor allowed a couple that were living together to do some of the music. I was relieved of my teaching class because I was teaching about tithing under the law is not required by the church. A church in Nashville is big enough to have fireworks inside the building, the pastor makes $1,000,000 a year. I could fill pages enough to make a book with several volumes, of the pride and absence of humility in the Churches.

The true church is small compared to the visible church's of Laodicea. Like the man that was at the banquet, not dressed in wedding attire and was asked to leave, so it will be when the Lord comes to the banquet of the wedding feast, many will be asked to leave! (Matt. 22:1-14)

I'm sorry Douglas, I just just could not help myself in pointing out your "weeding" attire. Ironically, it is fitting. Made me think of a gardener out pulling weeds: A believer in his weeding attire attending to the Lord's field, trying to pull out the weeds as he goes... Only he doesn't know the wheat from the tare, and yanks on them both alike. In his pride, he presumes to know how to identify them, but did not listen to his Lord, who commanded that they be left to grow together.

Humility? How many Christians would claim to be in any other Church than the Church Philadelphia?

I corrected the errors.

i might end up going to a megachurch that i thought was beneath me ((still shuddering a bit...)). The former pastor got removed, something about drinking.

Anyway...compassion. discernment. love. I"m trying to get these and other necessary virtues to come together so I can get into a church where my parents will go, also, and we can all 3 be fed and challenged, grow and contribute to others' lives, etc.

I didn't much care for the jumbo screen and calling the members 'part owners,' etc. i didn't much care for the pastor's (secret) high salary, etc. BUT...

My dad likes the place, and I think they do facilitate Christ's work in the lives of some people, probably more people than I'd care to admit, even now.

Besides, if you're going to church, you're seeking. I was seeking, even when I was trapped in darkness and sickness, etc. God honored my quest, and I can't imagine that he'd turn all these other (flawed, sin-prone, etc.) seekers aside, just because the theology is not so great or the church has a rock band or the pastor drives a lexus, etc.

Discernment --is-- important, and I've been praying for it. I'm personally trying to balance my need for discernment with my inborn inclination to straight up, harsh judgment. Not always easy...

There is always some wheat among the tares. God knows who they are. Too many people believe the pastor instead of the word of God.

The church in Rome and all it's splendor
Have you been to Rome?
The Vatican Museum has a huge collection of fabulous artifacts of all kinds. After about an hour, I started to feel like a kid in a candy factory who was told he could eat whatever he saw and was beginning to feel a bit yucky looking at more and more fabulous goodies.

I would add to your list every "mega-church" because no one can "shepherd" more than 200 people and a pastor can only disciple about 5 people at a time. (If they actually bother to disciple people.)

God put apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers in the church to mature the believers until they grew "to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ".

I don't see that happening. Someone who was that mature a Christian might start his own church and take some tithers with him! (Tithing being the modern Protestant, evangelical, reformed indulgence...) (heh heh heh)

Eph 4:14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

HAH! Jesus peddlers DEPEND on Christians being children who chase after every new wind of doctrine. That's how they get rich!

Thanks for nailing it!
