Since it looks like Irma is headed towards the US thought I might as well start a thread for it...

Hurricane Irma strengthened Thursday into a Category 3 storm with 115 mph sustained winds and is forecast to be an "extremely dangerous" storm for the next several days, according to the National Hurricane Center. In its 5 p.m. ET advisory, the NHC said the storm was located over the Eastern Atlantic Ocean, about 720 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, moving west-northwest at 12 mph.

"Fluctuations in strength, both up and down, are possible, but Irma is expected to remain a powerful hurricane for several days," the advisory read.

Earlier in the day, the weather service said Irma is expected to be "an extremely dangerous hurricane for the next several days," and is forecast to become a category 4 storm east of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean by next week.

Looks to be moving in the direction of Florida. They don't need another hit in less than five years. Category 6? I've never heard of a tropical storm reaching that level. I pray this storm dissipates before it makes landfall. There's been too much tragedy from storms already. Please God.

Bless you for your service. And may God bless all of your friends who continue to serve.
Let us pray their service isn't needed. Enough already! Category 6? That far out from landfall? Very scary stuff.

I guess it depends on what they're going to have the Guard doing, but since they don't know where it's going yet you would think it would only be "logistics" related...

The guard doesn't store water ,food etc and each armory has its back up ammo for this, and supplies for the troops.fema does the water and food and tarp.the local county hit designates what the guard is to do.each brigade is designated an ao and tasks it down.my old battalion was north west florida.one doesn't usually work the area you.live in.Matthew was the exception.which we weren't needed

Looks like WeatherBell is predicting that Irma is going to hit in the Carolinas. These are the guys who predicted "3 days" before Harvey hit Texas that it was going to stall there and dump massive amounts of rain along the coast, NOAA didn't predict that until 24 hours before it hit...

Doesn't surprise me after what just happened with Harvey and that a lot of the predictions are pointing towards a direct hit on Florida...
