My early Christian professing years were riddled with hypocrisy. I didn't even know I was one until the Holy Spirit used the Word to convict me. One of the first passages I remember was in John 9:39-41. Jesus just healed the man born blind, and he told the healed man that he came into the world to make the blind see, and make those who say they see blind. The Pharisees overheard Jesus say this and Jesus pointed out that their sin remains because the Pharisees thought they saw, but they really didn't. How can we know whether the light in us is not darkness? To me it was a process of revelation. I was in deep darkness about my own "righteousness." I believe we all should take Paul's advice to "examine yourselves to see if Christ is in you." Even that process was of God, not of me.
