My early Christian professing years were riddled with hypocrisy. I didn't even know I was one until the Holy Spirit used the Word to convict me. One of the first passages I remember was in John 9:39-41. Jesus just healed the man born blind, and he told the healed man that he came into the world to make the blind see, and make those who say they see blind. The Pharisees overheard Jesus say this and Jesus pointed out that their sin remains because the Pharisees thought they saw, but they really didn't.

How can we know whether the light in us is not darkness? To me it was a process of revelation. I was in deep darkness about my own "righteousness." I believe we all should take Paul's advice to "examine yourselves to see if Christ is in you." Even that process was of God, not of me.

Good question. Has God ever allowed you to be in a situation where you found you calling upon His name?
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

After being called of God, and brought into His kingdom, there is much work performed by our wonderful Father to will, and to do of His good pleasure (Php 2:13). There probably remains many steps to come to that place in Christ where we can truly say that we have arrived to being in His perfect will.

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. :)

Colossians Chapter 3 will answer your question if you are truly in the light of Christ or in darkness of self righteousness. This chapter teaches us how to overcome that of the ways of the world as we become dead to self and have risen with Christ as we seek those things from above where Christ sits at the right hand of the Father.
