Ya know ,gun people really are nice people! :biggrin

The springfield xd and xdm have several safety's, the newer xd's even have a manual safety apart from the grip safety, trigger safety, visual firing pin safety, and visual round chambered indicator. That's pretty darn safe! :)

The military likes beretta's, they are a nice choice and inexpensive as well.

i personally dont like the beratte 9mm even though i would buy one as a first personal gun buyer simply because i'm very familiar, that 9mm has no stopping power, it's being replace soon by the military, why the military went to that. didn't we learn from the filipino insurection.

Jason,

I believe the 9mm has plenty of stopping power with the right loads like sxt's, but the loads the military and police use in 9mm are not effective enough. They do make up alot with round count though. Hmmmm...which is more effective, 20rds of 9mm or 10rds of .45? :)

Personally, I prefer .40 cal handguns.

Thank you on that as i was un aware and meant to ask, but still i miss that m1911a1, the army revamped that and is bringing it back, better bolt, though.

I also like the german mp40. what dont we borrow that? or how about the ps90. 5.57x57, i believe.

Nope, the military will only use NATO rounds. Does it make sense to you that we are using 5.56 x 45 (.223) and other countries are using 7.62 x 54? :crazy

The .223 has been complained about more than the 9mm, it has the range, but doesn't have the stopping power when we need it and cannot penetrate the same as the .308. It was explained to me that the .223 round was meant to injure, not kill, that way it would take out 2 or 3 to help the injured guy. I don't think they help their injured guys, lol.

the ps90 is in several video games, and popularized by the stargate franchise and can be bought fully auto with a proper license, and yes i agree with u on the 7.62x54, i love that size round, think m60, and 240b ,and 240c.

The m60 is on its way out if not gone already. Replaced by the SAW .223,lol.

I was in a local gunshop that had an old retired spec ops guy working the counter. I'm former jarhead so we would chat when I came in on occasion. One day at the other end of the counter some guys were arguing 9mm vs. .45 and the old timer said under his breath to me "I've shot men with 9mm's and .45's and they all die the same."

The firearm is the tool~~knowing how to use it (loads/shot placement/etc) is the key--the operator is the weapon.

true keekl but a suicide bomber needs only to live a few seconds to do his deed and sometimes it takes two or more shots with 9mm and our allies(some use a makarov,7.62x24) and its then one shot one kill. Jason

Yep, keeki is spot on! Shot placement is the key, but I prefer our boys have the proper tools for the job as well. 9mm is in question, so I think the 9mm should be out as well as the .223.

So, where did lee100 go anyhow? :confused

There's an old saying: Anything worth shooting once is worth shooting twice. Regardless of the caliber you shoot until the perp is down.

When I was in the USMC (and that's been a while) I shot expert with a .45, and that was inspite of the poor condition of the weapon. I was a gun guy though so I knew the tool; there was not a lot of training with sidearms. I expect that a lot of issues with sidearms have more to do with training than the tool itself.

One of my concerns with the Beretta 92 is the size~I've got very large hands so we get along great; small hands have trouble handling it, and that's a big problem. The tool needs to fit the person, ya can't make the person fit the tool.

(I'd like to see a single-stack 10mm on the 92 design~that would be sweet. I'm not a huge 9mm fan but I love 9mm pistols~~Beretta 92, Browning Hi-Power :clap )

true but ya know the military make it fit, i can fire the 9mm and m16 both handed as that is now being taught, but u have a point, and i'm only restating what others say about the 9mm in combat, i was issued mine never used in the theatere, keekl what did u do in the corps, semper fi
