As stated, this is not true any individual that has made their own wine, as well as anyone that researches the subject deeply enough will know it to be untrue, I had a friend that produced his own supply of wine each year. Because of the cost of good bottles he retained the glass bottles, cleaned them and bought new corks for them, each year.

Wine does not soak into Glass Bottles as it does Wine Skins, you made it false when you updated the skins to bottles. That will not work and claiming it does, as a proclaimed pastor, it discredits your knowledge of scripture, at the least.

Exactly, They did not have glass bottles back then as they used animal hides (wine skins) that over time would wear out and split.

Jesus gave a parable about the old garment and old bottle which represents our old sin nature. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior through repentance this created a new Spiritual inner man and old things are passed away (sin) and remembered no more by God and all things become new once again.

You have two masters you can choose to serve as one is God and the other is self. If we have truly died to self (old garment, old bottle) and serve God then he clothes us in his robe of righteousness and we drink from the new bottle from the fountain of living water. There is no fence riding when it comes to our relationship with Jesus. You either trust him in all things or you deny him in all things. You can not put a new piece of garment on an old piece as it ruins the new garment if you cut into it. (Note: wine bottles were made from the hide of animals and if used to much the hide would wear out and split.)

Luke 5:36 and he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
Luke 5:37 and no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
Luke 5:38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

To all those who think that all the laws have been fulfilled in Christ you are very wrong as below are the laws that are written upon our heart and can only be fulfilled when Christ returns and makes an end to sin by throwing it into the lake of fire with that of the beast and the false prophets. The only laws that Christ has fulfilled so far are that of the Temple and its sacrifices. Someone please show me in scripture where Jesus has fulfilled all the laws, because in Matthew 22:35-40 and Matthew 5:17, 18 Jesus does not say that he has already fulfilled all of them, but that love was the greatest of them all.

There are laws (commandments) that were especially written just for the Hebrews pertaining to the rituals of the Temple, sacrifices, festivals, Torah, Kohanim and Levites, the King and the Nazarite and then there are the existing moral laws (commandments) for all of us to still follow as in prayers and blessings, love and brotherhood, the poor and unfortunate, treatment of the Gentiles, Marriage, divorce and family, forbidden sexual relations, business practices, employees and servants, vows, oaths, swearing, Court and Judicial procedures, injuries and damages, property and property rights, Criminal laws, prophecy, idolatry and all its practices as the moral laws (commandments) keep us in line with the will of God that we present ourselves a vessel of honor that God delights in as we allow the light of Christ shine in us and through us as a testimony of Gods grace and mercy as it is not ourselves that do any good thing, but Gods Spirit working in us and through us as we surrender our will to that of Gods will to be done.

Matthew 22:
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 5:
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

As I've shown in other topics the Covenant God made with Israel is also for those who join themselves unto Israel. Its for each and everyone of us. As for Temple sacrifices nobody that I know of actually thinks any such practice can atone or take away my sin. If you read Jewish commentary over time it has been said the reason sacrifice was allowed and strictly governed by God was to eventually wean Israel from such things. As they just left a very pagan society where such practices were quite prevalent. If you read the Levitical laws governing sacrifice they are performed because the one chooses too, not because God made them too.

I also like the fact that when Jesus was asked what was greatest commandment of all? He recited the most fundamental expression of Jewish belief Shema Israel. Deuteronomy 6:4-9.

I'd like to become a moderator what is the entrance fee?
Do I have to take a test?

Some day you might be asked to moderate, but for now let people see your handling of differing views and your measure of understanding. But to ask now is rude to the conversation with Reba, and possibly self promoting for your own ideas instead of holding to the points of being a moderator. That being to keep the peace, and to hold people to the rules set for particular forum sections. (Such as the sections that day no debating, and the sections that point to strong foundations in bible verse instead of opinion.) Whether you meant it that way or not this is how it came across. Give yourself time to be more known, before asking for more responsibility. So people can know you and come to trust you. (I think at one time Paul advised to not hand out new responsibilities to quickly to young Christians. In my opinion this advise on picking elders fits this situation as well.)

As for the law verses grace. There is merit to the new Covenant. Jesus came to add a new promise for us, to include the gentiles. As well as early church elders coming to the conclusions that gentiles did not need to become Jewish first to become Christian. So they lessened the burden expected of gentiles when talking about the issue of circumcision. So in these ways the new covenant is indeed new. However with that said, most of the time I've read Paul write about being free from the law it was followed closely with a follow up thought countering the idea that being free from the law doesn't mean that we shouldn't obey it.

Sorry, I know you've gotten a lot of response to say how grace verses law isn't the way you say it is. This is usually a controversial topic. But I have one more thing to add.

Grace isn't a new thing. Under the old covenant grace was implemented through sin offerings. Jesus being our sacrificial lamb completes the needs for a sacrifice to show repentance and receive grace. But grace was still there in the old covenant.

Israel lost her right to be called Gods chosen people, (God did save a faithful remnant), as they fell into idolatry worshipping other gods as they allowed themselves to fall from Gods grace as they followed the lust of their own hearts as they practiced Judaism, 1Kings 9:1-9. God’s judgment against them led them to be captured, 605 – 537 B.C., by Nebuchadnezzar and taken into Babylon for seventy years while Nebuchadnezzar’s army killed many Jews in Judah and Jerusalem destroying the whole city of Jerusalem including the first Temple that was built through King Solomon’s reign in Jerusalem.

The second Temple was built under Ezra’s leadership and Israel continued practicing Judaism and their Temple was desecrated as part of an effort to impose Greek-oriented culture and customs on the entire population. Roman rule refurbished the temple as Herod, Romans vassal king, rules the land of Israel. In 70 A.D. the Temple is once again destroyed. The Temple Mount was taken over in 691 A.D. as the Arab nation built the Dome of the Rock and there has not been any other Temple built since that time on the original Temple Mount.

God gave Israel 490 years to repent. They were set free from Babylon when the Medes and Persian conquered Babylon (Chaldeans) around 538 B.C. They were allowed back in the land and to rebuild the city of Jerusalem, however, they still did not repent for their sin of idol worshipping and they continued to receive punishment from God as the kingdom was taken away and eventually taken over by the Roman Empire. Malachi Chapter 1-4.

The 490 years were up and many of the Jews not only did not repent but they killed the very Messiah they had been waiting for as well as in 24 A.D. they made an opened display of rejecting the Gospel message as they stoned Stephen being the final messenger that was sent to give them their last chance to repent. The Jews were now rejected as God’s chosen people and were no different from the Gentiles as from that time forth each individual, Jew and Gentile has to make their own decision to accept or reject Jesus as Lord and Savior, John 3:3-7; Romans 10:9, 10. The disciples were called first to preach to the Jews, Matthew 10:6, and Paul was called to preach to the Gentiles, Acts 22:21. God has saved a remnant out of the twelve tribes of Israel even up to a thousand generations that have always been faithful to Him, Exodus 20:1-6; Psalms 105:7, 8, but those who have yet to accept Jesus as Messiah God will continue to cut them off.

dirtfarmer here

The law reveals God requirements to be holy as he is holy. The only human being that had the ability meet God's holy requirements was Jesus Christ and that was because he had no earthly father, but was God manifest in flesh.
As to the sacrifices on the altar, they were to restore fellowship with God by his people and they were his people by physical birth. God's earthly people. The Passover Lamb that was slain in Egypt and was eaten(life-giving) wasn't offered on an altar by a priest but was slain by the individual for his family. It is my understanding that there was "multitude" that came with the Hebrews that were not Hebrew people.

God's "heavenly people" are by birth also, but not physical birth. " You must be born from above", the second birth is through Spirit not through water(physical)

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.....
Now you got it. :idea
That verse isn't saying Jesus did away with the law and the prophets. Rather, it reiterates the law and the prophets by telling you that love for God and for one another, being we're created in God's image and likeness, manifest in the law and the prophets.

Love for God and my neighbor insures I will not steal, covet their things, murder them. All the 10 commands are still in place. A reminder in the secular realm? The Moses frieze on the Supreme Court.

In response to the idea Israel lost its right. It is a false accusation to allege, that we Jews expect the fulfillment of the divine promises so long as we persevere in evil doings, and commit sins like depraved men, and still expect a reward as if we were true and zealous servants of God. Far be from us any such presumption.

But we do profess with an unshaken confidence that we shall one day cling to Yehovah with an undivided heart, and that the Almighty will receive us in mercy, subdue our misdeeds, and then bring to pass all the glorious predictions given by the prophets. We rely on the words pronounced in Deuteronomy 4:30, "When thou shalt be in trouble, and when all these things shall have befallen thee, in the latter days thou shalt return to Yehovah thy God and hearken to His voice; for Yehovah thy God is a merciful God, He will not suffer thee to be weakened, nor will He destroy thee, nor will He forget the covenant with thy fathers which He swore unto them." We may also look to chapter 30:1-8, of the same book, "And it shall come to pass, when all these things shall have come upon thee, the blessing and the curse which I have set before thee, and when thou shalt have taken it to heart among all the nations among which Yehovah thy God shall have banished thee, that thou shalt return with all thine heart and with all thy soul to the Yehovah thy God, and obey His voice according to all that I command unto thee this day, thou and thy sons. And Yehovah thy God shall bring back thy captivity, and gather thee from among all the people wither Yehovah thy God shall have scattered thee. Even if thine outcasts be at the end of the heavens; even from thence shall the Yehovah thy God gather thee, and even from thence shall He take thee, and the Yehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land which thy fathers inherited; and thou shalt inherit it, and He shall do good unto thee, and He shall make thee more numerous than thy ancestors. And Yehovah thy God shall circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love Yehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, for the sake of thy life. And Yehovah thy God shall bring all these imprecations upon thine enemies, etc., when thou shalt return to Yehovah thy God."

The prophets have also announced the constancy of our future adherence to Yehovah, and have made the fulfillment of the good promised dependent on our full repentance. See Isaiah 44:22, "I have blotted out thine iniquities like a thick cloud, and thy sins like a cloud; return unto me, for I have redeemed thee." Also Jeremiah 3:14 says, "Return unto me, ye backsliding children, saith Yehovah, for I am married unto you, and I will take you one from a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you into Zion." See also Ezekiel 33:11, "Say unto them, As I live, saith Yehovah God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways, for why will ye die, O House of Israel?" In like manner, says Hosea 14:2-3, "Turn, O Israel, unto Yehovah thy God, for thou hast stumbled through thine iniquity. Take with yourselves words, and turn unto Yehovah, and say unto Him: Thou who forgivest every iniquity, receive us graciously, and we will render the calves of our lips (i.e. Thanksgivings)." Zechariah, in chapter 1:3, says, "And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Yehovah of Hosts: Return ye unto me, saith Yehovah of Hosts, and I will return unto you, saith Yehovah of Hosts."

See also Jeremiah 31:35-37, "Thus saith Yehovah, who giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon, and of the stars as a light by night, who divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar: Yehovah of Hosts is His name. If those ordinances depart from before me, saith Yehovah, then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith Yehovah, If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith Yehovah." When our opponent takes into consideration all these passages, how can he maintain that the Almighty has cast off and disowned Israel, and will no more vouchsafe to His people a redemption from this captivity? Surely the restoration will at last take place; then His anger will no more visit us, then His loving-kindness and His covenant of peace will no more be drawn from us, then He will no more cast us away, and no more deprive us of establishment as a nation. Our past sins will then no longer be remembered, but He will graciously pardon all our former errors and transgressions.

Isaac ben Abraham of Troki

I have great confidence that Yehovah will not forget the covenant He made with our fathers.

I am sorry but neither you nor I am God and yet you are attempting to make judgment, a judgment that belongs unto God alone. Now you might contend that I am out of line but you cannot convolute the scriptures that way. You need to reach a balance between your position and the idea of Universalism. The scriptures where God promises to not forsake His Chosen People, the sons of Israel. (Duet, 7:8,9) God, not being human, is not prone to making silly promises He then does not keep. Now, if we ignore that custom of that period, a generation being forty years, and use the standard of twenty-five, that is twenty-thousand years God promised. The Earth is only about six thousand years and Time is meaningless. (2Pet 3:8)

Bill, it is not I that has judged Israel, but God alone does the judging. Universalism has nothing to do with what I posted as we all know Universalism is not of God. Did you notice the part where I said God saved a remnant from Israel that keeps Gods covenant and are faithful to Him, but will also destroy the part of Israel that refuse to keep His commandment, Deuteronomy 7:9-11.

Also read 1 Kings 9:6, 7; Jeremiah Chapter 3; all of Malachi and Romans 9:1-8 as this is why God no longer spoke through His prophets with Malachi being the last one who gave warning to Israel and kept silent for around 400 years from the time of Malachi giving warning until Messiah come.

First, I never heard of that website and what I have posted here is my own study of scripture and my own writing of what I studied from scripture so do not be so quick to judge.

I'm not speaking about all 613 Levitical laws, but only the moral laws that I listed as they apply to everyone of us who are in Christ by faith in Him.

Galatians 3
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I noticed that, personally made that statement about Jews and therefore about their descendants, you didn't even include a scripture address, leaving it to be yourself making the judgment and that is perceived as personal and judgmental, you might not have ment it to seem that way but it does and from the beginning of Israel, until today, all there has been are a few believe the truth. Nothing has changed in the past 6,000 years.

Christ also came to redeem those who were under the old Covenant law, that they too might receive the adoption and be called the sons of God (Gal 4:5, Eph 1:15).

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the old law, that the blessing of Abraham might be available to us all through the Lord Jesus.

This blessing is the promise of the Spirit through faith (Gal 3:7-14).

Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness is through the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

We are not under the Old Covenant law, but all may be covered by new law of Christ.

Mark 2:22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

The New Testament Covenant has the saving blood of Christ. Those who were under the Old Covenant law only had a covering for sin, but the blood of Christ takes away sins.

Romans 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

Putting new wine into an old bottle will cause both to perish, because the old bottle is not designed for the new. Under the old Covenant law the temple of God was a building. Under the new Covenant law of Christ, we are the temple that he dwells in (1 Cor 3:16-17; 1 Cor 6:19).

If we claim to be under the old Covenant law do we understand the new law of Christ?

Not only is the new law of Christ better, it also is the only one available, as the old has passed away. Any man in Christ is a new creation and all things have become new.

This new bottle then, refers to our vessel that the Holy Spirit can reside in. If we try and remain under the old Covenant law, the Holy Spirit is barred from entering in, and the end result is that of destruction. All in Christ are a new creation, through His Word of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17-19; 2 Tim 2:21).

Jesus Christ has brought forth the new wine, which is the new covenant last. That which Christ supplies is available to all that ask (1 John 3:22).

Isaiah 65:8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

The old wine was available to those who were under the old Covenant law. The Old Testament Law was fulfilled by Christ on the Cross, and is finished (John 19:30).

Heb 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

No man also that drinks the old wine immediately is desirous of the new, for he reckons that the old is better (Luke 5:39).

Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

The second covenant was the Law of Christ written in the hearts of men, which represents Israel after the Spirit (Rom 11:26, Gal 6:15-16).

John 1:11-12 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

Old Covenant Law

Define "old covenant"?

If you mean the law of Moses, then I agree.

Of course that was not for Gentiles.

If you mean the Abrahamic Covenant then you would be mistaken, since we are grafted into that covenant in Christ.

The New Covenant is a refreshed Abrahamic Covenant, Not a different Covenant.

New means refreshed new, not different new.

Neos vs kainos.

The 10 commandments did not begin with Moses, and certainly apply to Christian's.

JLB

We are not under the Old Testament law, but the law of Christ’s grace.

Under Grace is more stringent that being under the law, because we have been given A new nature empowered by the Spirit and more is expected of us.

28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 10:28-29

  • how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot,

Under Grace is more stringent that being under the law, because we have been given A new nature empowered by the Spirit and more is expected of us. It is the Spirit that works through us and not any works of the flesh.

Hebrews 10:28-29

hello JLB, dirtfarmer here

How is being under grace "more stringent " than being under the law? What could be more stringent than being subject to "the law of sin and death"?

How does a person "count the blood of the covenant" a common thing? Is by committing sins, or is it rejecting Christ as savior of the world? Is that not trampling the Son of God underfoot?

  1. The law of sin and death is not the law of Moses.
  2. how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy... shows my point.

I gave you the scripture with the language that says - Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy...
