Hello everyone. I've been trying to become more social by speaking voluntarily to others and by attending more events, but I just can't seem to care when I converse with someone else. I only really see people as a stepping-stone towards my goals and have never connected deeply with anyone for my entire life. I'm praying that God will change my heart and perhaps, bring someone into my life that will alter my way of thinking. Do any of you brothers and sisters have any advice to share on this matter?

There is nothing in the Bible that states that you have to talk to others. It's a little concerning when you say you just see others as stepping-stones to your own interests. I am not a terribly social person, because I enjoy serenity and just "being" (in Christian terms, fellowshipping with God) Don't try and be someone you're not, but also take in consideration that there may be a slippery slope into self-absorption (which would not be good)

I'm not a big social person and would rather sit at home and there is nothing wrong with that. It is said if you have one or two good friends you can trust then you have all you need for friendship. People are not stepping stones to reach a goal that needs fulfilled, but are people that will help you to fulfill your goal as they walk with you in this life.

Try asking them questions, and really caring about their answers.

Interesting that you should say that. Recently I heard that upon meeting new people one should try to ask at least 5 questions. This Thursday I had coffee with a guy I just met and we chatted for two hours. I managed to slip in only 3 questions but it was a first for me (to deliberately ask questions and show a real interest instead of just back and forth chatter). Good advice!

I hear you Alec, I'm not much of a social bug either. I find that a lot of times (even on here) in life I'm often misunderstood and I'm not really that popular anyway. But it's like For His Glory said, all you really need is a few good friends that care about you. Besides that it's great that I have my faith in the God who created me because He always understands us. So what I'm basically saying is this, if you want to open up more that's great, but if you don't that's fine too. By the way Papa Zoom, I absolutely love your signature. I love all of it but my favorite part is the thing at the very bottom.

You’re extremely introverted and there is nothing wrong with that. I absolutely need my space away from my hubby and one of my cat named MoMo. Not sure how to upload a photo of him because I would if I could.

First of all you make sure that the picture that you want to upload is saved to your computer. Then you press the image of the picture button up on the top bar and it should be easy to go from there.

It only gives me the option to share it from a website, I know on the another forum using the same software that you can upload pictures from the phone and computer, so it must be disabled because the option is not at the bottom by preview.

I agree with reba that your own advice, pray that God will change your heart, is best. We are called to love and to SHOW love. This is a command. Seek it. You will find it. There is joy in giving. Serving others is the best gift we can give ourselves. It's Christ-like behavior. Jesus was the greatest servant of all. The God of the universe, in flesh, came to serve and save the lost. We should do no less. Serve one another in love!

Galatians 5:13 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Thank you for all the support. The next time I converse with someone, I will try and put my attention solely on them. Perhaps with God's favor, I can enjoy the conversation we have.
