all that's nice, but what are you hiding from on this forum right now?

i hate to say it, but...i applaud your decision. i was thinking about going with my dad to a local megachurch he really likes. then, i talked to my friend verna about it, prayed about, and...nah, not gonna happen. i dont want to encourage membership in a money making machine that might make one feel better for a little bit, but seems to do precious little to facilitate Christ's work in anybody's life.

personally, ive been condemned by church people. when i lived in another state, i was living off my parents. i didn't get a whole lot of $$$, but my rent was paid, i had a car, i was safe, etc. so, i popped in at this one church and i overheard some young lady, in her late teens, talking about how i "don't have a job, living off welfare..." and that was the end of that, right then and there.

the little presbyterian church i grew up in condemned me, too. presby's are supposedly tolerant, more liberal, etc. yeah...not so much. not when you're really down and out, one of the 'least of these," etc. that happened before the pcusa denomination as a whole decided to throw scripture out the window. needless to say...im not interested.

ugh. i just dont know. verna loves church. she's been in pentecostal churches her whole life. she's a bona fide christian, she helps people, she cares, etc. there are christians like her out there, in churches all over america. there's also a lot of self-righteous hypocrites, people using the church as a form of therapy, etc. i know people on this forum tend to criticize the liberal/progressive christians, but...as i see it... churches tend to do a lot of re-shaping Jesus into whatever their audience wants. A Jesus who will bless your same-sex union and materliasm? PCUSA, Episcopalians. A Jesus who loves violence, guns, the status quo even more than you do? Any number of Baptist churches, at least where I live.

sorry to ramble. I am sorry that you and your wife are now staying home. I'm sorry you're disillusioned. On the plus side...you both still love The Lord, and you're not spending time and $$$ on an organization that's clearly more about their needs, power, etc. than they are about facilitating Christ's work in peoples' lives.

You aren't Jesus.if the Holy Spirit was telling you it would be in a private manner.Just because i tend to post I'm the political forum doesn't mean I'm hiding from subjects.
but you're hiding from something
why else would you keep yourself hidden from view from everyone else?

Allen, I must admit that your decision to leave your church was probably a wise one except if it's for a hidden secret sin of not wanting to submit to anyone's authority. Church membership leads to rules & statutes that implies submission to the authority of Jesus' love for Church whereby His Holy Spirit can work within each membership for the better.

I was a Baptist Pastor of three organized Baptist Churches during a period of twenty four years. I too was tired of church membership for the reason of power to make bad decisions with a majority vote. Many good Gospel, Bible preaching Pastor's have been voted out of sinful churches because they didn't like their shoes stepped on.

The remedy? I began to hold "House Church" which is biblical. One built up to 65 folk. No membership, no Pastor's salary, I had a full time job. No collections (a box in the back). From house church to a hotel conference room rent, amazing miracles happened there that never did in an organized Baptist Church.

At 77 years of age, and bad health, I'd start another house church if it were possible. That's the way to go.

Allen, Why don't you and your wife start a house church? Think about it Rollo Tamasi.

Sorry to hear that OP.

Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer. Heb 10:25 GNT

I think American individualism tends to clash with Christianity which is cooperate

Thank you for your reply.
We have tried a couple of times these past few years.
People our age don't want to go out.
The neighbors are all pagans and they avoid us.
My wife and I have suffered illness quite a bit these last 7 years.
After all the years of service in the church, we thought maybe someone would rise up and provide that service for us, but it's not going to happen.
We're both tired.
My wife is 79 years old.
2 broken knee caps and osteoporosis.
she can't climb a flight of stairs anymore.
it's time for a change of the guard.

Well, let's face it Al. You are a bit on the strange side. Just like me, you are never going to fit in most traditional churches.

But, that is not really a problem. There are more than 600 churches within about a thirty-minute drive of my house. I probably only have about ten more years to live. You, too. So, if either of us attends a new church each week for that time, we will only run through around a tenth of them that are available to us.

And, most of them don't care if we ever show up on their doorsteps, anyway.
