...but not on purpose.

I was studying this morning and I came across this verse and it freaked me out:

2 Peter 3:16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.

It freaked me out because I have been in error and have shared that error with other people.

Even if the person doesn't realize their misunderstanding scripture (ignorant - which is not a bad word by the way, it just means they haven't learned it yet), yet they begin to teach their understanding to the other people, in their ignorance, they unbeknownst to them are twisting the Word of God - to their own destruction. Not everyone in a debate, can be right, in fact, they both could be wrong. Are they piling destruction upon themselves?

James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

Yet, even now, am I understanding Peter correctly, is my understanding of that passage correct? We could destroy ourselves by having the wrong doctrine and sharing it with others?

Thanks.

If your heart is right, even if you have some "theology" wrong, it matters little to God........... BECAUSE, only a fool thinks he is totally right about God. (and, that is Biblical)

Willie T, you don't think that verse means what I thought it said?

You don't think God will hold the most sincerest person accountable for twisting His Word? It does say "in their ignorance". That was the part that worried me, I don't see where it says anything about their attitude in this.

Thanks.

I do, thou shall not doubt my posts, im never wrong.
:shades me either.

I have stuck to my guns before and then later God showed me my error. I've read this verse 100's of times but just today it struck me different.

That's alright. I think everyone who doesn't think like me has the right to be wrong.
oh doesn't this include church doctrines that are often to be memorized and defended despite what the bible actually says all the while the Lord gave us doctrines that are about doing not knowing. im not saying that we shouldn't know the bible correctly just that we fight often over things that aren't consequential.

It's funny how things work out, it seems everyone who agrees with me is always right! It's a phenomenon yet to be explained! lol

I was being sarcastic and yes I have done that too.

What if a church has it wrong, according to that verse in Peter, in ignorance, preached the error for decades...will God not hold them accountable?

Yes, the doing part is the faith in action, maybe it matters more of what we do, but why the huge warning in Peter?

I never said a word about, "sincere". Most Klansmen and Black Panthers are sincere. But you know quite well, their hearts are not aligned with God at all. This has to do with surrendering our "sincere" wills to God.

I realize you were being sarcastic, I was, too in my response to you <with the cool sunglasses>.

If our wills were aligned with Gods, would it be possible to twist His Word, even a little? Have it wrong?

Sure. In fact, most of us right here on this forum, myself included, do that way too much. I think the key is allowing your heart to remain soft and receptive..... and doing better next month in certain areas than we are doing now, or did last month.

Beware the man (or woman) who says they got it right back in ______ , and they have lived the "correct" life ever since. I would say that person may be looking into a mirror far too seldom.

I think much of this is where those verses about "dying daily" and "being saved each day" come into play.

You mean allow ourselves to be sanctified and transformed to the image of Christ?

It just seems that verse is being downplayed too much, it says what it says and like James also says about "not many should consider themselves to be teachers...."

Even though not called to teach, are we not sort of being teachers out there in the world and here on the forum and if we misrepresent God's Word, even in ignorance, it is to our own destruction. Maybe we should only speak of that which we know 100% to be true, regarding God's Word. Yet there are people will say they know something is 100% true, when it may not be.

I have met people who say they have it right and their beliefs are really far removed from anything I have ever heard. The discernment was to get away asap. lol

I don't recall the verse about "being saved each day", I do recall Paul saying a few times about "those who are being saved".

Yes, dying daily is a good subject. Take every word captive, all the time, has proven to be an obstacle. haha I am too quick tempered.

By taking up our cross daily and whatever God allows in our lives, we strive to have Christ like character and integrity through all the tests and trials. We bear with one another the burdens of life, so we help others carry their cross, too.

No, I simply mean to do no more than just say, "Jesus, you know I want to show people who you are..... help me do that."

I think it may open a whole new dimension of the Word to you if you can learn not to read the Bible, and its instructions, as a point-in-time "doing" of an act, or a thought, performed, but to understand it as it was often written, a "continuing" or "ongoing" thought pattern or lifestyle.

This may take some consideration and thinking about..... dwelling on.

Are you saying this is what dying daily means to you?
In a manner of speaking, Yes. I don't see this as forcing myself to act a certain way that I might prefer not to, or to resist doing a certain thing, but rather to let go of controlling my wishes just a little more than I was able to yesterday.

I thought maybe if I put the instructions into practice, it would eventually lead to an ongoing lifestyle. It would become second nature.
