As a more scholastic enterprise than a theological one...
I was thinking about listing all the commands stated in Revelations together...

"Write this down because the time is near"
That kind of thing...
Doesn't matter to whom the command was written...
Just list them.
And take a look at the list.

(Behold isn't always a command. It can just mean "pay attention" or "key concept")

Anyone want to join me in this exercise?

Wonderful idea. I'm with you. I'm sure others will be. Will go write a list.
How are you wanting to go about it? Do we all post one at a time - or what ? :)

Let's try to keep them in order...but not necessarily so. We can eventually put them in order if we use chapter/verse numbers.

We'll probably miss some somewhere...

Glad about your last sentence I won't feel so bad when I miss one now. That thought crossed my mind.
I agree it would be good in order

Using HCSB:

Rev 1:11 saying, “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

Rev 1:17 When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. He laid His right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last,

Rev 1:19 Therefore write what you have seen, what is, and what will take place after this.

Rev 2-3 The next commands would be that given to the seven churches in Asia as they needed correction and discipline to come back to their first works.

NKJV

Rev 2:1 To the angel of the church of Ephesus write

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from it's place - unless you repent.

Rev 2:12 And to the angel of Pergamos write

Rev 2:16 Repent or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Rev 2:18 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write

Rev 2:25 But hold fast what you have until I come.

I'm not sure what is meant by the angel of the church ?
Who are the angels? John writing to an angel? Or is it like the messenger of the church?

Rev 2:1
Write to the angel of the church in Ephesus:
“The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand and who walks among the seven gold lampstands says:

Rev 2:5 Remember then how far you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

Rev 2:7 Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will give the victor the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in God’s paradise.

Rev 2:8
Write to the angel of the church in Smyrna:
“The First and the Last, the One who was dead and came to life, says

Rev 2:10 Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the Devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will have affliction for 10 days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Rev 2:11 Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. The victor will never be harmed by the second death.

Rev 2:12. Write to the angel of the church in Pergamum:“ The One who has the sharp, double-edged sword says:

Rev 2:16 Therefore repent! Otherwise, I will come to you quickly and fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

Rev 2:17 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will give the victor some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name is inscribed that no one knows except the one who receives it.

Rev 2:18. “Write to the angel of the church in Thyatira: The Son of God, the One whose eyes are like a fiery flame and whose feet are like fine bronze, says:

Rev 2:25 But hold on to what you have until I come.

Rev 2:29 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.

These seven angels are the spirits of the Lord being the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD, Isaiah 11:2

Angellos is the Greek (but in this case actually Early Latin which is very similar) word for Messenger.
It's kinda a poetic way of speaking as most of this is prose of a form.

I thought John was writing to the churches. Why would he be told to write to the angel of the church.

Yes, John was writing to the seven churches in Asia as these seven angels represent the message as not being angels they could see, but being the seven spirits within the church or in other words, the body of Christ that makes up His true church.

It's shaping up to be a great study.
It's coming up differently than what I had originally thought the list would show. But it's a pleasant surprise. And that's why we need to study.

Also notice that I have included the whole verse but not necessarily the whole sentence. And that I'm underlining the imperitives (at a minimum). It just helps us see what is said a bit better.

Hmm, Angel = messenger, which might be the main teacher there or even an Evangelist passing through, but I don't see how it could be the congregation.

I think this deserves more discussion; it seems so odd for even John the beloved to be instructed to write to an Angel ...
