Here's the Genealogy of Jesus and how Joseph and Mary were actually first cousins. We are all related going back to Adam and Eve. Hello to all my cousins :wave2 :lol

In Luke3:23 Heli is said to be the father of Joseph, while in Matthew 1:16, Jacob was Joseph's father. The most probable explanation of this seeming contradiction is afforded by having recourse to the Levirate law among the Jews, which prescribes that when a man dies childless his widow "shall not marry to another; but his brother shall take her, and raise up seed for his brother" (Deuteronomy 25:5). The child, therefore, of the second marriage is legally the child of the first (Deuteronomy 25:6). Heli having died childless, his widow became the wife of his brother Jacob, and Joseph was the offspring of the marriage, by nature the son of Jacob, but legally the son of Heli. It is likely that Matthew 1:1-16 gives the natural, and Luke 3:23-38 the legal descent. Lord A. Hervey, Bishop of Bath and Wells, who wrote a learned work on the "Genealogies of Our Lord Jesus Christ", thinks that Mary was the daughter of Jacob, and Joseph was the son of Jacob's brother, Heli. Mary and Joseph were therefore first cousins, and both of the house of David. Jacob, the elder, having died without male issue, transmitted his rights and privileges to the male issue of his brother Heli, Joseph, who according to genealogical usage was his descendant.

Sorry, I don't really get all that and my head hurts enough already lol

It was only showing how one is related to another as not being incest back in Biblical times. Hope your head feels better :)

Thanks, it already is quite a bit since it's around seventy and sunny and I've been outside pratically the whole entire day and I think my head starts hurting when the weather is constantly changing back and forth so that's probably it. In fact I am outside right now on my tablet enjoying the sunshine. Anyways,.. :topic (I wrote more about this in my weather topic in the lounge)

Jesus was the supposed blood son of Joseph and the actual blood son of Mary . Luke gives the actual bloodline of Jesus through Mary .. Matthew shows Joseph as begotten of his actual father Jacob but also husband of Mary , mother of Jesus .. Jesus was an adopted son of Joseph and the bloodline of Joseph was not/could not be Jesus actual true bloodline but legal adopted and his legal bloodline .. In Jesus day man and wife were considered as son and daughter of each others parents with less in-law distinction than today ..

Yes, another reason for starting with the Gospel of John! It skips the genealogies, which later in the NT we're told not to get bogged down with anyway. It tells us who Jesus really IS, and John's theology is GREAT.
