If you want something more high end a Galaxy Tab S3......about $500; you can also get the the Tab S (which I have) & S2 for in the $3-400 range....earlier versions of the S3.

Most of them are made by a very few manufacturers and just swap lables. The boards are a little different...but not enough to matter. High pixel counts are really not worth it for such small screens even though they are highly advertised.

What is important is Wi-Fi access, expansion ports, the type of Bluetooth keyboard that is compatible, sound jacks, and on/off button working smoothly.

Battery life is also essential.

All in all you should be able to get a really nice tablet for under $300 and some peripherals to go with (like portable speaker, headphones, case, or even a keyboard. )

The expansion ports is nice because if it's a micro SD card you can put pictures you just took on your camera or phone on your tablet and get a really good look at them... maybe even do some editing. (Make sure your micro SD card is compatible with the camera/camcorder)

IPads aren't going to have expansion slots for memory.

But...
We were in Israel at the hotel after a full day of sight seeing and watched Netflix on our tablet for some downtime. It was kind of nice.

To augment what JohnDB said, if you are going to use the tablet for pictures then yes look for one with an expansion slot. Though it is also good if you are going to be putting other additional files on it, more than what would fit on the onboard memory. Also, if you buy one from a supplier other than your cell service, more than likely it will be wifi only. Otherwise, you may want to see what tablets are available from your cell phone provider.

Thanks. I have a smart phone. With my tablet/iPad I only need wifi. I never use it otherwise. My phone does all I need in that category.

For that use,

Get the cheapest thing you can get your hands on. I bought a 6 inch tablet called a Voyager I use to read the Bible online. I turn it sideways and it's the same width as a book. For me a 10 inch tablet is too cumbersome. I may as well use my laptop if I have a 10 inch tablet. I like Android, but stay away from Kindle Fire they have their own version of Android and you cannot access the Play store last time I heard.

I say the cheapest thing you can get your hands on because I'm kind of a disposable computer guy. Everything lasts about the same amount of time. Software and security issues should be fixed. Once a device is 3 to five years old and starts getting hardware issues you have to be careful not to "chase" hardware repairs. You may end up paying the cost of a new device without actually owning one and the repairs will continue.

Rick
Thanks Rick I will check that out!
