Is Death A Sin? - Yes!

Genesis 2:15 New International Version (NIV)

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

After man was created by God, God commissioned man to work and take care of his creation as stated in Genesis 2:15. Therefore since man was created from the dust of the ground, and the woman was created from the man, both men and women are inextricably commissioned by God to take care of his creation, including themselves, since they are a product of God's creation.

Since both the man and woman were created from the dust of the ground they are therefore included in God's edict to work and take care of his creation which includes all life that surrounds them as well as each other.

There are two types of commandments from God. One type of commandment are those directed towards the individual which are exemplified by the 10 Commandments. Another type of commandments are those directed towards a group which I call God's edicts as exemplified by Genesis 2:15.

Now when Adam and Eve sinned they brought death upon themselves. Immediately upon their individual deaths they will cease to work and care for God's creation and therefore they will be in violation of God's edict of caring for his creation and hence they will be in a state of perpetual sin in the hereafter.

So yes....death is a sin for it will prevent everyone from fulfilling God's command of working and caring for his creation. Adam and Eve brought sin and death into this world by their disobedience in eating the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. But additionally Adam and Eve (as well as everyone else who dies) will also became sinful, yet again (perpetually), upon their actual death as they will be unable to carry out God's command to work and take care of his creation.

This all leads to the indisputable fact that abortion is a sin.

For even if one believes that a fetus is only a biological tissue mass it is a product of the Garden of Eden (as we all are) and therefore falls under God's edict that we are to care for his creation whether it resembles a full person or a developing fetus.

It must be pointed out that God's edict to work and care for his creation applies only to that which was in the actual Garden of Eden. Since Adam and Eve were thrown out of the Garden of Eden the only remnant of the Garden of Eden left to take care of is of course Adam and Eve themselves! Adam and Eve were created from the dirt of the ground and they carried that dirt out of the Garden of Eden when they were thrown out. We all have the same dirt of the ground (hint: our DNA) from the actual Garden of Eden in all of us and therefore any developing fetus is also a remnant of the Garden of Eden and MUST be cared for by Adam and Eve's descendants...meaning us!

It must be emphasized that when Jesus Christ died on the cross he became sin by the simple fact that, like everyone else who has died, he could not no longer care for God's creation (meaning both men and women) as God declared in Genesis 2:15. But because Jesus Christ, God's son who is God become man, died without the original sin of Adam and Eve he was resurrected to be with God the Father in heaven. Once Jesus Christ, God's son, was resurrected he could then resume and carry out God's edict in Genesis 2:15 and along with it eradicate any and all disobedience.

For those who are faithful and believe in Jesus Christ their sins will be forgiven and they will be given a new body that will finally nullify God's edict of Genesis 2:15. We (those of us who believe in Jesus Christ) will no longer have any remnant of the Garden of Eden in our body and therefore we will no longer be duty bound to personally care for God's creation.

Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and rest assured that Jesus Christ stands before God the Father in human form to carry out God's edict of Genesis 2:15 - faithfully and in perpetuity. Which is why Jesus Christ must retain his human form in heaven forever in order to be our sinless sacrifice before God the Father thereby satisfying God's edict of Genesis 2:15.

God Bless

note:

The forbidden fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil reflects both of the concepts of Good and Evil. While consuming the forbidden fruit, which will bring the penalty of death thereby causing mankind to violate God's edict of Genesis 2:15, it will also be useful to sustain life (temporally) therefore satisfying God's edict of Genesis 2:15! The forbidden fruit reflects the perfection and righteousness of God...Jesus Christ. For Jesus Christ incurred death because of man's sin of eating the forbidden fruit but he also sustains our everlasting life in heaven by satisfying God's edict in Genesis 2:15. Which is why Jesus Christ must retain his human form in heaven forever in order to be our sinless sacrifice before God the Father thereby satisfying God's edict of Genesis 2:15.

Additionally if Jesus Christ made this world his kingdom he would also have to satisfy God's edict of Genesis 2:15 and ALL death would have to cease. This cessation of death would thereby negate God's judgment against mankind of eating the forbidden fruit and all persons who had ever died would have to brought back to life here on earth in order to satisfy Genesis 2:15! For mankind was created from the dust of the ground which reflects the reality that mankind is not only a caretaker of the Garden of Eden but also one of the products of the Garden of Eden. It is as if an automobile had the ability, and responsibility, to maintain not only itself but every other automobile, road, and anything else connected with transportation.

It MUST also be remembered that God gave another edict to man outside of the Garden of Eden when God told Noah and his sons to go forth and multiply after the flood. When a person decides to practice homosexuality they are defying God's edict to go forth and multiply which puts homosexuality and abortion on the same level of defiance towards God. This defiance led to God's in intervention in the affairs of Sodom and Gomorrah. Amen

Now when Adam and Eve sinned they brought death upon themselves. Immediately upon their individual deaths they will cease to work and care for God's creation and therefore they will be in violation of God's edict of caring for his creation and hence they will be in a state of perpetual sin in the hereafter.

I agree with much of what you say but drawing on this to make your point, you have gone far afield. Death is the result of sin and therefore not sin in and of itself.

That is what I was thinking too, death is the result of sin and is not sin itself.

I agree we are all a product of the Garden of Eden as there is where God formed all of us from the dust of its ground and that shadow of that dust we will return either to life eternal with the Father or an eternal existence in the lake of fire.

Death is the result of sin found in us as we walk according to our own will and unbelief of what God has already spoken as death is the consequence of unbelief which creates sin found in us. We, like Adam and Eve, have died a Spiritual death that separates us from the grace of God. It is that of Gods grace that He gave us His only begotten son, Christ Jesus, that has come to make atonement for our sin that we now have life eternal with the Father as we confess Him as our Lord and Savior and are made Spiritually alive/renewed again as Christ is our intercessor before the Father.

Interesting.

What if death was the end of sin? I mean, without death, sin would reign for eternity within the very fiber of humanity.
You know what else in interesting? Why is death thrown into the lake of fire?

Death is the end of sin as Spiritual death which is separation from God is final upon physical death and there is no second chance of repenting of your sin after this fleshly body returns back to the dust of the ground. Sin will always reign in humanity if they have never repented and are not Spiritually born again as when Christ returns He will then make an end to all abominations (sin) thus ushering down the New Jerusalem where we who are in Christ will dwell with Him forever as we have eternal life with the Father and those who names are not found written in the Lambs book of life will be cast into the lake of fire as that will be their eternal existence.

Death meaning that of Spiritual death or separation from God is cast into the lake of fire after the sea and the grave (hell) gives up those who have physically died and stand in Gods Great White Throne Judgment. Death being the result of sin was cast into the lake of fire as death being that result of sin and hell meaning the grave that held death gave up the dead for final judgment and was cast into the lake of fire before that of those who will be judged for their unbelief because of the result of death. Rev 20:13,14.

I disagree. A person would have to have eternal life to have an eternal existence in the lake of fire.

TimothyW you and I have already discussed this in "Can Eternal Life exist in the Second Death?" which is now closed so I will not rehash and go off topic as this is about "Is Death A Sin".

You said death is the result of sin and is not sin itself. I agree with you on that as in spiritual death causes our physical death to be separated from God forever.

Okay.

I don't accept your redefinition of death to mean "separated from God forever". The wages of sin is death, and we know what death is. The absence of life. Death is not sin, death is the result of sin, just as Paul wrote in the book of Romans. If we start to redefine words, we can make the Bible say whatever we want it to say. That is not really listening to God's word.

Once again, death is the result of sin that when we die in the physical body and return back to the dust of the ground and have rejected Christ then we are separated from the Father and have no second chance of reconciliation with Him. Adam at first Spiritually died (not physically) when he ate of the tree. This caused a Spiritual separation from God. Adam would have to reconcile his sin before his physical death in order to have eternal life with the Father just as all of us have to because the wages of sin is Spiritual separation of God/Spiritual death. After physical death there is no more chance of eternal life with the Father if one has died rejecting God.

Adam did not die when he ate from the tree. He died many years later. There was no "spiritual separation" from God, because God interacted with Adam after the sin. The Bible does not say that death means "spiritual separation". The Bible says that the wages of sin is death, it does not say that the wages of sin is so-called "spiritual separation of God/Spiritual death".

Physical death is the separation of the soul from the body. Spiritual death is the separation of the soul from God. God gave strict orders to Adam to not eat from the tree of knowledge, but Adam sinned against God (walked in unbelief) that day by eating of the tree which caused a spiritual separation, or another way of putting it is that Adam broke the fellowship he had with God and became spiritually dead, not physically dead. Physical death came many years later.

When Adam and Eve heard the voice of God as He walking in the garden they hid themselves from the presence of God. When God asked "Where art thou" He wasn't asking about a physical location, but where are they now spiritually as they broke the fellowship with God. God never forsook them, but they had to come back to that Spiritual relationship they had with God before they sinned against Him.

Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

In Ephesians 4:18 Paul describes it as a man without Christ is spiritually dead or alienated from the life of God. In Ephesians 2:1-5 we are taught we are spiritually dead because of unbelief and sin and we know the wages of sin is spiritual death or loss of fellowship with God. Spiritual death has nothing to do with physical death except for if you physically die in unbelief then you are separated from the life of God forever.

When did Adam die?
Genesis 5:5
"Thus all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died."

According to the Bible, Adam did not die on the day that he ate the fruit.

You claimed that Adam spiritually died the day that ate from the tree. The trouble is that the Bible never ever says that. Adam did not become dead (either physically, or "spiritually dead" whatever that is...) the day he ate the fruit. He became dead many years later. The Bible does not say that Adam "spiritually died", the Bible doesn't say anything at all about so called "spiritual death".

I would like you to please show me where the Bible says that Adam died before he died. (Either physically or "spiritually")

I think the pertinent question here is God said the day you eat of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil you WILL die,...what died?

...was God lying , did God lie?

Man is made in the image of God, he is a soul-spirit that lives inside of a physical body, Adam lived 930 years after he rebelled-sinned, so it wasn't his body that died, he was afraid and ashamed because he was naked when he heard the voice of God calling him, those are emotions, so his soul (the seat of our emotions) wasn't dead, ........what's left?

And that raises the next question, what was Jesus referring to in man (us, you and me) that needed to be born again and why?

Blessings

God is Spirit and we worship Him in Spirit and truth. When we break that fellowship as Adam did then it becomes a type of death in that we no longer have that Spiritual relationship with God which leaves us spiritually dead inside. The Biblical definition of spiritual death is the absence of having spiritual life, which is only available in the Lord Jesus Christ. When Adam broke that fellowship he had with God by being disobedient to Gods command of not to eat from the tree Adam broke that Spiritual relationship with God and became Spiritually dead within his inner man. There are many scriptures that speak of the inner man being dead to God, but you have to study what Spiritual death is within these scriptures to understand that there is a Spiritual death and a physical death.
