The short answer is no.

An interesting discussion on this topic errupted on facebook recently. Some people seem to think divorce itself is a sin. I contend that it is not. It is the result of sin. No one just decides to get a divorce without some underlying sin being the impetus. Whether it be infidelity (adultery), pride, or a number of other things, it all comes down to the fact that divorce is the result, not the cause.

The Bible has two grounds for divorce
1) Sexual immoriality Matthew 5:32
2) Abandonment by a unbeliever 1 Corinthians 7:15
If you go beyond what the Bible says it is dangerous ground.
What about those who are abused? That is a different thread :)

1 Corinthians 7:11

A woman can leave her husband but not divorce him.
And he must not divorce her.
But there is no commitment to staying in a marriage with abuse.

might I suggest you adjust your settings? so that friend of mine wouldn't be able to post like that?

and well deuteromony 24 cant command a sin. it was rather that man did want to be able to exit their marriage. while I don't think god wanted that to be easy, he did say it was because of sin ye shall have it.

In the case of abuse a woman can separate...yes.I believe the Bible says if a couple divorce and it is not Biblical they can not remarry.

So far you have all supported my position, as even in the case of abuse it is the abuse that is the cause for divorce (which really is just a fancy word for separate). Abuse is born out of sins, including pride.

One sin causes another...
because we cover a 'little lie' with a bigger lie does not make the bigger lie not sinful

If unfaithfulness is acceptable for divorse unfaithfulness could possibly mean a lot of things. If im married and my wife lies to me, she has been unfaithful so i will divorse her. :biggrin2. Everyone was made in the image of God so lying to me is also lying to God. I want a divorse. :biggrin2
Sorry nice try if your wife lies to you that does not mean she has been unfaithful. No reason for divorce. Now if your wife slept with another man and she said she did not that is a cause for divorce. The person who does like the personality of their spouse has no cause for divorce.

im going to bite. so if said spouse has a drug problem and wont quit, cant work. and you have tried for years to get him or her to stop, they wont. remember you if you have them will have kids affected by this?

I add this
spouse convicted of child porn or other sex crime, violence, none of which you were harmed nor your kids

When we read the OT which we are told :
Rom_15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

We can see, if we look, the value God places on marriage....We fail in not teaching that value to young christian kids... We, the church fails, we have let the world dictate it's lack of values to us....
We will look at some one like the Dugger family and call them kooks etc... We find fault with folks showing a clear vision of Christian principles. .We have let the world scare us , we do not want to be seen as WBC.... so we play dead...

The Godly values of marriage need to be taught , instilled, impressed, all those kinds of words before marriage not after... Please don't get the idea i doubt the salvation of of folks who are divorced. I dont.. We all have seen the pain it causes ... there is pain in divorce even when it is the safer choice... No i do not advocate a spouse staying and being abused... Nor do i advocate one half knowingly pushing the other to get an excuse for divorce....

Then you separate and seek marital counseling. If that does not work you have done your best. That spouse is in God's hands and you seek safety for you and your family and that could be divorce. But God wants you to try to make that marriage work.

I would NOT ask a man or woman whom was married to convicted murderer to stay. if they get life, what marriage is that? visitation isn't a right. a convict has to be granted the right to see his kids.. some crimes are capital if the victim is under the age of 13.

I guess that is a test of your wedding vows. For better or for worse,Till Death due us part.Did any of you say those vows when you were married?Did you mean them with all your heart?

it would be a practicaly dead marriage. love in marriage is stil a choice. would you tell your daughter to stay with the man whom raped her? or raped the son or daughter and they have issues and cant be around that man or woman. my wife's ex btw did this. he raped a family friend and wasn't charged and attempted to rape both his step kids. he was stopped by a shotgun being locked and loaded and aimed at the base of his skull by monica while he was beating her mother.

while I do believe god can change these men, I wouldn't suggest remaining married to them.

That is too different scenarios. You were saying a man that murdered someone and was a prison you did not say a man who stabbed or raped his wife or kids.If a spouse is that dangerous to the family then the family needs to get out.Their needs to be a separation.God wants man to be at peace not to be subjected to a dangeous situation. That person needs to be prayed for.If that person repents and comes to God then God would want the marriage to be mended.
