Besides religion, politics is one of the most controversial topics we can discuss, why do believers strife, argue and fight over politics?

Why the division?

The Bible says we should not follow the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the path of sinners.

Maybe those verses are not about politics.

It seems there are a lot of people inside the church fighting over secular matters, or maybe we fight for what we believe?

Not sure, is is a sin for believers to fight over politics?

Hahaha, I think that is awesome humour.

I think politics is worthwhile discussing regularly. Like once a hundred years. But when discussion turns to fighting, I think some people's attitudes turn negative and that must be getting near to sinning. Hard to love your Christian brother or sister if you start thinking they are brainless and stupid and ignorant and opinionated and blind and even ungodly because they vote for XXXXXXXXX. And I don't think God is impressed by that sort of negative thinking.

It is true, depending on who you voted for, a pereon will size another one up. People even stopped being friends with others just becaus3 9f who they voted for.

It just seems Christians could rise above it all, idk.

Hmm interesting. Just this morning I happened to read 1 Corinthians 10 where Paul was exhorting believers not to be divided over who they followed. And in 1 Cor 2:2 Paul stated he resolved to know nothing when with them except Christ and Christ crucified. Seems we humans are prone to allow our personal convictions about our leaders get a bit too strong and lead to some divisiveness. Paul gave good advice. And DavidC, it is exactly what you said, we Christians are expected to rise above it.

I do not think Paul was saying not to have an interest in our leaders or favourites. Just not allow that to bring division and certainly not let it cloud our perspective on what is most important. And that is Christ and him crucified. That's my view on it anyway.

Because it is the temptation of the Son of Perdition. To sit in the temple of God, showing themselves that they are god. To argue and divide over sin and the things of the flesh, for which Christ commanded that you should forgive one another. But the temptation to sit in the seat of Moses is strong, and people want to declare that their judgement is correct; and so they argue politics and sin, and sit in judgement over the law. But to seek the Lord??

Remember the temptation of Christ in the wilderness? Jesus was offered all the kingdoms of this world, but he turned it down. He said no. And when you read the gospels, I don't see Jesus discussing Roman politics much.

Micah 4:3-5
And he shall judge among many people,
and rebuke strong nations afar off;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruninghooks:
nation shall not lift up a sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree;

It seems like it is a diversion for sure, a ploy by satan to get peo0le to divide, fight and get all in a turmoil. It is crazy what people have done in the name of a political party.

The diversion is the same with the media, they will cover a story and then the focus is off what is really going on and completely off of God.

There is a lot of hatred among believers right now, and at each other.

I think everyone in america has been affected, but we live in an insane area. People are unreasonable, it's everywhere.
I bet it breaks God's heart that believers have gotten sucked into it, on the other hand satan is the ruler of the air and he leads people astray, and is using politics to do it I think.
 
I think there's a distinct difference between our governing and political bodies (such as congress, the parliament, or anyone we vote in including school boards), differing greatly from people playing politics by aligning with a person, an idea, or a cause. These two things often overlap in the political process and the legislative arena. But in most other situtions people play with politics as if they are in control or have any effect in the process, and get angry when it turns out they aren't.

No doubt, I do believe we have very little control, if any at all. There have been votes in our state and county, where the voter has voted "no", but the state or county finds a way to do it anyway.

If we have so little control, why fight about it. It just seems too many people acted like big babies and still are.

discussion on matters of faith are far worse in the Christians community. I don't mind seeing a bit of snottiness in politics but in discussing theology or any matter of faith it has no place. Yet that's what we do. Some are worse than others. There are some topics that are toxic and no matter what is intended, eventually there will be harsh words exchanged. It's been this way since the beginning of the Faith.

I realize it is nothing new, just the Bible says do not sin in your anger, things like that and personalky I see more name calling, bitterness, and raunchy behaviour from the left but it does happen both ways, too.
