The thing, Handy, is that the entire issue is devoted to these women and the "articles" involve questioning them about their sex lives and what they like don't like etc.
I'd say no to Dora's question about buying for the articles or interviews, but Fem, that ^ is an inaccurate statement. Sorry.

if you look at that issue, you most likely will have lustful thoughts. Which of course is a sin.
Of course we all know Matthew 5:28.

Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. (KJV)

The NIV translates this verse,
Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Fembot, what is the difference? If it is wrong for a man to look at a women in a bikini on paper, then it is wrong for him to look at a live person walking down the street in a bikini. I think that it is possible for a man to see a woman in a bikini and not lust after her, although it may very well cause him to stumble, not every man is that way. Personally, I don't think that the swimsuit edition is porn in itself, but I don't agree with that edition anyway because of how I feel about swimsuits themselves...

I already addressed this. I don't get paid to go to the beach and walk into the water (and when I'm not in it, I do wear a cover up). Those women are paid to put on (or take off, for that matter) skimpy outfits and are often PAINTED with no clothing on. This is intended to put lustful thoughts into men's minds. The magazine fits the definition of porn-which I already posted, but will again-

pornography: creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire

Only God knows for sure if their is a man that can control his thoughts.

Before anybody says the 'ol "Can't I even look at a woman" Of course you can. It is not a sin to recognize beauty per se The Bible has lots of verses using the word beautful refuring to women.

I see a pretty lady in the store, you don't think I don't notice?? Of course I do. I might even think wow what a pretty lady, and may even smile if we make eye contact!!..... BUT .... I then go about my business!! and I think thats the key!! I notice her beauty, but I don't continue to stare, or turn to watch her walk after she goes by ect ect . I believe thats when you fall into the lustful area.

There is a diffrence in seeing beauty & lust.

Understable that there are questionable pictures taken. That is done in just about every kind of magazine out there anymore. Be it a nearly naked young male or female. The hidden message is often one of great concern.

Just feel that perhaps we need to take caution. For yes standing up for our beliefs is great. It should be done. Just need to make sure that the line of paranoia is not crossed in the process. Just about everything we do in this day and age could undoubtably be tied back with some form of sin. Or defined as such.

So that could very well raise the question of if we do so much questionable things that can or may be related to sin how can any of us call ourselves Christians?

Then being a Christian would not mean being a Christian if Christ was not needed.

Because, as a Christian, WE KNOW BETTER than to call something acceptable when it clearly isn't.
If I were to post pics from the 2008 issue, that WOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE here. So, stop pretending it is.

Are you implying that I am any less of a christian?

Nope. Was answering your question.

Okay. This topic has opened my eyes to a new perspective or two. This whole topic is something worth thinking and praying about.

I would argue that it is a sin to have such a magazine. It is created for one purpose--to fulfill lust. Whether one calls it porn or not is irrelevant; both porn, swimsuit magazines, and other garbage like FHM (?), etc, all created to indulge men's misplaced sexual desires.

Oh honey I wasn't judging. Please don't think so. I do agree with you that there should never be an issue of SISE in any christian's house, I don't care if you do get the whole subscription. There's other sports magazines out there. Buy those. I do agree it's just LIKE porn mags. Same purpose. It's the devil's way of trying to get a christian to okay buying a lustful magazine. devil says "Well they aren't completely naked...so God won't mind."

Is there a such thing as a modest bikini? Most I have seen look skimpy but I could be wrong.

To say that any man looking at a woman in a swim suit is looking at pornography is a bit extreme. Basically leads to the accusation of all women who ever wear a swim suit of being porn stars.

Is it a sin to have a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition Magazine?

That depends likely on the mind set one has when reading it.

The topic is looking at a magazine that puts out issues with half naked women. That is porn. If I walk down the block to the beach and a guy looks at me. It's not my fault, doesn't make me anything. Makes him a perv. I happen to wear bikinis every weekend. I live in Southern Florida, I'm not going to wear a robe to the beach.

Looking at magazines with half-naked women is porn. Period.

Sorry to hurt you people's feelings. :tongue :lol

I love the questions you raise, Dave. Really brings out the two-faced aspect of life.

If I walk down the block to the beach and a guy looks at me. It's not my fault, doesn't make me anything. Makes him a perv.

Gen 29:17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.
Gen 29:18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

Guys looking at girls doesn't make them pervs. It is how God made people. Physical attraction is one of the reasons guys and girls meet (and sometimes get married) in the first place. :o :o ;) :biggrin

I agree. It is only "perv" if a guy lusts after a woman. I believe you can look at a woman and find her attracttive without lusting after her.

:) :thumb 100%! :biggrin

This is how God made people. We naturally appreciate beauty and the "aesthetics" of things. That would include members of the opposite sex. :biggrin And if the person that is being "looked at" has a good heart, that makes them all the more attractive, imo. :)

Wow, something constructive out of you :poke

Worldly things are just that-worldly. So, if you want to check just the sports, you shouldn't be buying a magazine that has half naked women in it. ESPN does a good enough job covering sports without devoting a whole issue to half nakd women to gawk at. THAT is pornography. I'm surprised at your answer Blazin'! Really.

If lust is your problem then by all means stay away from anything that causes you to sin. That being said, you know your heart. God knows your heart. Don't rely on what others think and just be honest with yourself and God. Stay away from things that lead to sin. Plain and simple.
