Do most Christians oppose the practice of paganism or wicca, or do most accept it as an alternative religion? If you see it as wrong, why is that? Lots of the arguments against it claim that Wiccans and Pagans worship Satan, which they don't. Satan is a Christian thing and not part of the religion at all. No one prays to Satan in real Pagan or Wiccan practices; maybe some kids do who are disturbed or bored but that isn't a part of it. Also Wiccans don't do magic for evil things or go around casting spells. All it is really is connection with nature and having harmony with the world instead of going outside of it for something. I am curious for answers for personal reasons, which you can ask if you want but I probably won't get into on this post. :) Anyway I would like to know, and I'm more curious about anyones experience and personal feelings besides just Bible verses, but those are cool too.

Witchcraft versus Wicca

Witchcraft is, litterally, the 'craft of the witch'. Which is the skill of being able to work magick; especially magick utilizing personal power in conjunction with the energies within stones, herbs, colours, and other natural objects. While this may have spiritual overtones, witchcraft, by this definition is not a religion. However, some followers of Wicca incorrectly use this word to denote their religion.

A witch was anciently, a European practitioner of the remnants of pre-Christian folk magick, particularly that relating to herbs, healing, wells, rivers and stones (ie: One who practices witchcraft).

Later, this term's meaning was deliberately altered to denote demented, dangerous, supernatural beings who practiced destructive magick and who threatened Christianity. This change was a political, monetary and sexist move on the part of organized religion, not a change in the practice of witches. This later, erroneous meaning is still accepted by many non-witches today.

Some members of Wicca to describe themselves also use this word to describe what they are. However, witchcraft can be practiced by people of any faith. One can be a Wiccan witch, a Jewish witch, a Christian witch, a Muslim witch, etc.

Wicca is a contemporary Pagan religion with spiritual roots in Shamanism and the earliest expressions of reverence of nature.

Among Wicca's major motifs are: reverence of the Goddess and the God; reincarnation; magick; ritual observance of the Full Moon; astronomical and agricultural phenomena; spheroid temples, created with personal power, in which rituals occur.

Not all witches are Wiccan, and not all Wiccans are witches, as witchcraft by itself is not a religion, and not all Wiccans practice magick.

Wicca involves the worship of creation--whereas Christ teaches us to worship the Creator as the one and ONLY God!

So, even though both would seek to be good stewards of the planet and it's living residents we have very different foundations on which we base our faith!

We can not say that wiccan is an alternative religon, uless we ask an alternative to what?

Jesus is the only one who paid for our sins, and it is our sins that take us to hell. There for faith in JEsus alone is what gets us to heaven, not a relgon by a relationship with the LORD.

Jesus said I am the way the truth and the light, he told us that no one gets to heaven unless they go through him.

So the alternatice is hell, that is if you choice to ignore the truth and follow your own desires and will, you are walking away from God.

Satan is not a christian thing, he is reall person, that would love to see your souls rot in hell, not becuase he hates you, but because God loves you and he hates God.

You can try to call majik good but you are only fooling your self, it is an attempt to manipulate the will of God or nature to gain, that is evil. Self centered activity no matter how nice it is worded is evil. This is the same with prayer, which is why are to pray NOT MY WILL BUT THY WILL.

Living in harmony with the creation is only possilbe by living in harmony with the creator, we are to honor the creator not the creation. When give nature such adoharation you make the devil smile, he know that is sin.

That does not mean we should not take care of the planet, but NEVER worhip or adohore it.

BEsides bible verses??? The bible is Gods word our opinions mean little if they are not in line with what God has said, I can not fell one way, and the word says something else, I have to bow to the LOrd and his word, not my feelings.

If you are interested in talking to christians you have to be ready to hear what the bible says, we do what God teaches not what we feel is right at the time according to our own ideas , which by the way are rotten.

OH in the vote I voted the second one, but would say that the the word decent is not accurate, all are sinners and fallen short of the glory of God, we may be decent by our standards, but by Gods srandards we are all sinners.

:B-fly:

Wicca is just another word for witch. It is all evil and they all worship Satan. The paganisitic rituals that are used come from Baal, Ishtar, etc..
All worship Satan.

Nothing is good about Wicca, wicce, witches. There are no good ones. They worship nature, yeah, the worship of trees, with the rituals of animal worship, animal sacrifices, and human sacrifices.
They use neocramancing, which is against Gods word. The ruse of the good wicca/ wicce loving nature and do your fellowman no harm is only deception from Satan.

dustwitch, I pray you are not involved with this, if you are, Get out.
If you are just playing around the fringes, get out.
It's not games with Satan. He'll grab you and won't let you go.
It's like riding a tigers back, once you get on , he won't let you off.

God bless

In my belief Wicca is the practice of using witchcraft, or magic...for good, evil or "grey". Wicca has nothing to do with satan, as witches don't acknowledge evil deities in their religion, and definately don't worship satan.

I have never heard of witches doing animal or human sacrifice. Is there any proof of this anywhere, such as location and who was convicted? I've only heard about wanna-be satanist's doing sacrifice, and they go against the wiccan rule of three - what you do comes back to you three times, good or bad.

How can it be satanic to want to preserve nature? I don't know from my experiences anyone who worshiped trees or plants as gods. There are only those who believe that all creation is to be revered, but not worshiped. If one attends a sabbat or something you won't see any evil spells (or likely any at all), nor worship of trees. You might see prayers and rituals, which don't involve praying to satan or hurting anyone. Only teenage psychos get into stuff like that, usually to be rebellious or something.

Hi Feral,

I know from past experiences and have known witches that are now Apostolic's. They have told me the truth about Wiccan/ Witches, paganism, etc...
Now, There may be some wiccans that do only worship nature, but it's still not from God. Anything that is not of God Almighty is contrary and therefore is pagan and of non-effect to your life.
Are ALL the web site's I go to lying ? I see the same explanations on them all concerning Wiccans/ Witches. Casting spells, using necromancing, using herbs, And , well, such as this;

Witchcraft (Wicca Craeft), is also called Wicca, or alternatively, The Craft. This previously underground religion has much to teach every human about survival and about the ethical use of natural innate powers.

Some questions and answers;
Q. How can someone find out more about Witchcraft?
Wicca is not a missionary religion and does not proselytize. One must seek rather than be sought after. There are excellent books available, and many Witches teach classes or facilitate discussion groups. In this way, people may connect with a like-minded coven or form a study group of their own. There are also many good periodicals, networks, and national and regional festivals through which a seeker can make contact with the larger Craft community. The Covenant of the Goddess is one such group fulfilling all of these functions.

This tells me that Wiccans ARE witches.
What say you on this?

As a past witch myself, I will tell you that you're down a wrong path. It may seem harmless right now, but one day you will spiral down.

ANYTIME you worship anyone or ANYTHING other than God, it's wrong.

You may not acknowledge evil spirits, that does not mean that they are not there. Like the quote from a movie, I have never seen a million dollars, but that does not mean it doesn't exist.

Satan deceives by making people believe that the sin they commit is right and good, thus they are blinded to the Truth and feel they can justify their actions. He is also known as "The Angel of Light", that may sound fine and dandy but it is another way of saying he is a wolf in sheep's clothing, only in brighter array. He will make himself and sin appear to be full of light, truth, happiness and anything that glitters - but to quote an old adage, "Not all that glitters is gold". What you see is a lie and one he has used for centuries to keep people from turning to God.

I have a question, if one is not praying to God, who are they praying to? If it isn't God, than it is idol worship and that is forbidden in God's Word.

Wicca is a cult like any non Christian religion. When people put their faith in earthly things that will eventually perish along with them, they have nothing.

forgive me but I just had many of the machines I am responsible for
malfunction.. so I will scatter shot this and run off.

first. wicca is not a cult.. it is a religion.. It will not save the practitioners
but it is a religion nontheless.

second.. nope.. not all wiccans are witches.. and most certainly not all
witches are wiccans. :)

the path of witchcraft is not a good one to tred upon.. for it leads one
away from Jesus and His offer of salvation.

Dustwitch...
Satan is real.. I know that those on most pagan paths do not
believe that. it doesn't change the facts of the matter though.

perhaps I will be able to come back later.. if not swing by ExWitch and
talk with me there. :)

I would not call it a cult in the same manner as I would call the mormons a cult, bcause they do not claim to be chrisitan then deny the essential of the faith. That is a christian cult.

However there are many cultic characteristics to wicca. And is a very dangerous thing to be involved with.

As to if they are witches or not, well I have yet to meet one that had any issue with that the terms seems to be rather interchangable.

All in all the true matter is that fact that it is just one of many tricks of satan to lead people into darkeness, and mere fact that entire so called reigon is so sefl based is evident of that fact.

Anyways, that is all for now, I just hope that some day this whole wicca thing will be in the past and these poor lost souls will be set free by the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hi there!

:)

Why worship the creation instead of the Creator?

Alternative religon???

Well sure it is an alternative, all religons are alternatives.

The reall question is alternative to what??

Well I will tell you wicca is an alternative religon to the truth of God, and in the end an alternative to heaven.

After all religon does not get one to heaven, only Jesus does that. So all religon is an alternative to heaven, and the only other alternative is hell.

So do we christian think that it is OK to let people just wonder off the hell with out so much as a warining, NO and pray the Lord that we never do.

Wicca=Satanism?

[For the record I have been Wiccan and I speak from the perspective of one whom Jesus miraculously found and brought- blind and feeble tho I was- into the life-giving light.]
It has come to my attention that many who practice Wicca as well as other Neo-Pagan and Pagan religions insist that they do not in any way practice Satanism, nor is Satan at all included in thier religion. Allow me to clarify on my own point of view:
Satan is wily. He has been tricking our species for generations upon generations, twisting our fancies so that we have been worshipping him without ever being aware that we are doing so. He will clothe himself in any garb- even that of the Goddess or the Horned God- in order to pull our attention and/or loyalty away from the True God, Jehovah, the I Am. A Wiccan or Neo-Pagan may insist that they are not worshipping Satan or even having anything to do with him, but so long as they continue to worship this foreign God or Goddess, who do you think thier prayers really go to? Satan has been called Prince of the Air and Lord over this World for good reason. He can manipulate reality inasmuch as God can, within certain limits. The results of magics and arcane arts are simply Satan working through his power to get his followers to persist in believing that because they are seeing real live "magic" then this must be the true way.
Wicca shows it's faults through many cracks in the basis, a few of the larger ones I will mention here.
1.) The Creation Myth: Somethingness mated with nothingness or something like that which gave birth to the Goddess? Now I know I'm pretty rusty on this one, it's been a while, but I remember learning that about the creation myth and thinking "I'd have to be a half-witted idiot to believe this in the face of science and the Law of Conservation of Matter. Unlike the Bible, Wiccan theology does not have any proof within science for it's assertions. Now many may say that the Bible doesn't either, but that's a whole different thread that we could go on for days, and believe me, I wrote my senior research paper on the topic. The Bible is scientifically and historically valid.
2.) Compatibility With All But Christianity: While learning about Wicca I was rather perturbed to learn that Wiccan leaders hold that Wicca is compatible with any other belief system, including Judaism. However, Wicca cannot be compatible with Christianity. Why? Because Christianity requires forgiveness of sins, a concept totally unknown in the Neo-Pagan belief system. However, that leads me to the question, well if there's no such thing as sin in the Wiccan mindset, why the Wiccan Creed: "An ye harm none, do what ye will"? That seems to imply that harming others is wrong (a.k.a. considered a sin). Yet there is no need for erasure of sin, therefore no need of Jesus or Christianity? It just strikes me as a red flag that Wicca would embrace every other religion and belief system accept for the single one that Satan- were he, of course, at all involved in the equation- would most want to keep everyone away from, the one way to lose souls to the God who loves us, and the God whom Satan despises.
3.) "An ye harm none, do what ye will.": Who honestly believes this? If a Wiccan goes to the Happy Ever After Land when they die, regardless of former life, wouldn't that imply that any punishment (a.k.a. the sevenfold punishment you recieve for breaking the Creed and harming another, whether through magic or reality) would have to be carried out on earth? And yet, if Wicca is the true religion, how come this doesn't always happen? Why do we everyday witness people being monsters to eachother and getting away with it? Obviously, what goes around certainly does not come around, at least here on earth anyway. So this whole Sevenfold Rule and The Creedo do not work, and are not fullproof. Whereas God's system of sin, judgement and either punishment or grace gained thru Jesus Christ's redeeming punishment does work and is fullproof. If the bad guy doesn't get what's coming to him here on earth, well then you better believe he'll get it in Hell unless he quickly turns his life around and allows Jesus to correct the errors for him and starts living for the God who died for him.
I don't mean to attack Wiccans, I mean only to expose the naked lie of Wiccanism for what it is. I've been there, I've believed the lies. I've worshipped the cloaked Satan and insisted it was the true way. But never again, by God's divine grace and mercy, never again.
God bless you and lead you to the Only Truth,
Steph<><

Wicca is a religion, not a practioner, so it couldn't be synonymous for 'witch.' A Witch is one who practices witchcraft. Some Wiccans practice witchcraft, and some Witches are Wiccans, but they aren't the same thing.

Wiccans don't acknowledge Satan, and they certainly don't worship him. Satan is a Christian demon, not a Wiccan deity.

Being a good or bad person has nothing to do with what religion you follow, you should know that.

They use neocramancing, which is against Gods word.

Wiccans don't worship nature or trees, per se, but recognize it as beautiful in all its forms. Most Wiccans worship a single God and Goddess, but some adopt other pantheons into their beliefs.

The Wiccan Rede states, "An' it harm none, do what ye will." That means hurt nothing. Including animals and humans.

I think the word you're looking for is 'necromancy,' which means to conjure or communicate with spirits of the dead, usually in order to prophesise the future. This is not a Wiccan practice.

Why would Satan want people to be kind to others if he's such a supposedly evil being? I doubt he needs souls that badly.

You ought to do some research before you blindly flame something you know nothing of. The rumours out there about Wicca are far from truth.

Rose no longer visits this forum.

But I will address what you are saying, wiccan is another word for witch, though not all practice so called witchcraft, they are participants in the underlineing and theological aspect of it.

Besides, a brief read of the history of wicca reveles that the word wiccan does come from witch.

So wiccan do not believe in satan, well so what? That does no make him and less real, it is not the belief in something that makes it real or not, a fatal error in the wiccan mind set.

The fact is that satan deceives very craftfully and very sweetly, the ideal that the wiccan can controll the things around them, is all from satan.

He does not come ugly, but he comes very nice, sweet and inviting. Wiccan is just one of the ways that he know he draw people away with, it is nothing but bait.

Being a good or bad person? Hmmm I am not sure there are really good people, all folks have something dark in them, even the best of us are still hiding something somewhere that is wicked.

And for that matter, where are basing what is good from.

As John Calvin said, when we look to ourselves to see if we are good, we will find that when we compair ourselves to ourselves we can find that we are good.

But when we compair ourselves to the sourc of good, to God himself, and see our true selves in the light of his holyness, we can then see we have fooled our selve and there is nothing good in us at all.

So the question is what are you compairing yourself to, so that you may see if you are good or not.

you asked "Why would Satan want people to be kind to others if he's such a supposedly evil being? I doubt he needs souls that badly. "

Satan is not ugly and mean, at least not at first. He comes are a very inviting and kind thing, otherwise how would he draw anyone to himself. He is evil, but not in the hollywood sence of fire and ugly faced monsters, he is evil in his intentions, though he may seem to be kind he is really out to destroy you a little at a time.

The second part, does satan need souls that badly, well he does not need souls, and those that follow him are not his in that sence. He wishes only to lead as many as he can to hell, beucase he hates God and God love us, since he can not really do anything to God, he turns to that which God loves.

And something you need to know already is that satan does not need to get your souls, he already has it, all he needs to do is keeping you from hearing and responding the good news of Jesus Christ. When he would lose your soul.

And hey if wicca works, he is not picky he'll work for all it worth, to keep you, not to get you, you are already his.

By the way, the research comment is sort of silly, you have shown that you have done not research at all on satan and how he works, but I have done much research on wicca and talked to many wiccans, who for the most part are hatefull, bitter k people that think everyone is out to get them.
