Recently an article came out about James Comey stating that the FBI was unable to access a large number of smart devices because they have either Signal or Wickr on them. Are these apps really that effective, or are they bird-dogging us to get us to install these apps on our phones in order to make it even easier to get into our devices?

What I would really like to know is if anyone here has tried either, or both, of these apps, and what they have experienced.

Well we are a very long way away from what the founding fathers had intended for our nation.
A much stronger and more intrusive Federal Government exists that has so much distance from the people at this point that it would take a collapse of the whole thing to get back what we were given.

Today we feel no real ownership of the communities we live in. No allegiance to our neighbors and assisting in their defense. It's always someone else's job to do so. We barely know their names if at all.

In the '50's and earlier if someone was a "loner" and had no connection to the neighborhood it was thought of as real trouble. Their every move would be watched from the groceries they bought to the books they read.

Today with the transient lifestyles and apartment complexes and mobile devices that contain social media...No one cares any longer.

And this will result in complete chaos in the end. Because a disconnected Government that has all power has no understanding or cares except its own appetite.

By choice.I don't have to ask my church for assistance. I could bypass it and simply seek the veterans group here.I already have in one case.it was just easier to ask as I know I will have some one to help me and vice versa.it's not that no one in my church would more so rather that I hang with these vets enough to know and a network is set up.

Only if the church could do that as effectively. While a church does help and a chaplain ,father bistis ,is involved.so yes one can care and be on social media.my town has plentry that are my age or older and some younger who do.

Area beautification and the garden club was started here by a Dr humiston and its still being done.the garden club never stopped and the area beautification was started back up.our police department was the first project.people also fixed the old ymca area up that is ran by the city received department. A group of believers who are mothers formed this

I figure the government is into any and everything they can stick their noses in. I doubt the government would advertise anything/anywhere they're unable to access. A story just came out on Yahoo about the ties the Geek Squad has with the FBI. When I first went on disability, we bought my wife a computer from Best Buy. They took the computer to the Geek Squad and opened the box. They removed the cpu and took it to the back out of our sight saying they were going to load utility software onto the computer despite our protests. Her computer has never run right and is bogged down all the time as if there is some huge hidden program running in the background........in other words don't trust the garbage the government puts out.....probably just misinformation/misdirection.

Given those apps provide AES 256 bit encryption, I highly doubt it is easy or at the moment possible (in practice) for the FBI to intercept communications with these apps.

And if you use them through a VPN as well, it would make large-scale monitoring of encrypted traffic extremely difficult and cost-ineffective.

Those CIA leaks were perhaps a more interesting concept, but only worrying if you are a 'target' of the CIA. I think I'm safe on that one.

Maybe you weren't before, but you are now.

I might recall it incorrectly but our communications on the Chopper were 16 bit and the North Vietnamese never broke it. We changed the settings every day also but they never managed, even with the Chinese and Russians helping them.
