I really never considered why Jacob and Israel were both used at the same time in certain scriptures, but the old curiosity has got the best of me. I always thought it was just that God gave him both names as being an old and a new personality that truly came to know God. Kinda like all of us as having our inner man Spiritually renewed. I very seldom display websites and even though I do not agree with some things this site teaches I did find this and interesting study.

Yeah...I read the site and where it appears to have merit it is somewhat flawed. Some of the things that "Jacob" does aren't good or bad and sometimes just indifferent.
Hence why I was asking to begin with.

There's a thought though that came to me while reading the site.

The double speak in the scriptures where things appear to be repeated...

A prime example is "stars of the sky" and "sand of the shore".
Both of these groups are used to reference the innumerable "saved" that belong to God. But one of these is better than the other. The "stars" are bright in the darkness and are a help to those navigating.
The sand grains are a heavy burden especially when loaded down with water...but that water gives them structure enough to build sand castles and firm footing.
The double speak referring to a division of importance once our reward is actualized in Heaven.
All are saved in the two groups versus the "lost" which have no hope.
Not that these activities the stars actually provide salvation but according to Revelation 14:13 our deeds do go with us.
Possibly providing some with extra status or authority.

Just thinking out loud...
 
Seeing two different names mentioned at the same time leads me to believe (without reading from that site) Jacob the deceptive carnal man not so much walking in total obedience to God and Israel the Spiritual inner man walking in obedience to God. It's like all of us that had a carnal minded past, but now Spiritually renewed by the grace of God through faith that is belief in Christ Jesus. Our names have not been changed, but added to the Lamb's book of life.
