I wanna make a thread, completely dedicated to all sorts of ways Jesus is in the New Testament. I want you to post, in simple and concise explanations, where we can find Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.

I'm going to post evidences too. There are a lot. I'm going to start with a few from Genesis. I'm going to start with the very beginning.

IN THE BEGINNING
John 1:1 states:
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God

In Genesis 1:1 we read:
In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth

Vav_Genesis1_1.gif

The picture above shows the Hebrew (read right to left) of Genesis 1:1 a word that is not translated. This word is Et, spelled Aleph-Tav. Interestingly, this word is with God (elohim). But the point I'm making is not that Et is with Elohim. Rather I merely want to focus on this literary marking, Et. It is the letter in the middle of the seven words.

Here is a view of it in ancient Hebrew below, when Hebrew was written with pictographs. Not as the block letters as depicted above were.

tscripts3.jpg

Notice the Et is written as an ox and a cross. Jesus was the final sin sacrifice on the cross.

Conclusively, as Alpha and Omega are the first and last of the Greek alphabet, so are Aleph and Tav the first and last of the Hebrew alphabet. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. (Revelation 1:8, 22:13)

THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON

There are 30 parallels between the life of Isaac and of Jesus. This is called a Jesus Typology. This list is credited to: http://derekspain.com/2014/03/10/the-answers-30-similarities/
  1. The father leads his son to be sacrificed.
  2. A donkey is involved on the road to the sacrifice.
  3. They leave their “homeland” to go to the place of sacrifice (Abraham & Isaac travel to the mountain, Jesus leaves heaven to come to earth).
  4. To get from where they are to the place of sacrifice requires a journey.
  5. Each son is the “one and only son” of his father.
  6. The son is a descendant of Abraham.
  7. The son had been born with divine intervention.
  8. The sacrifices take place on the same mountain (called Mt. Moriah in the Old Testament, called Mt. Calvary in the New Testament — also known as Mt. Zion, by the way)
  9. The companions that were with them stayed behind (most likely on the hill across the valley, called the Mt. of Olives) when the son went with the father for the sacrifice.
  10. The son carried the wood/cross to the place of sacrifice.
  11. The son asked questions of the father.
  12. The father knew what he was called to do.
  13. The son was submissive to the will of the father.
  14. The father was willing to sacrifice his son, if necessary.
  15. The father believed in resurrection.
  16. The father loved the son.
  17. A resurrection was prophesied (Abraham said, “we’ll come back to you.” Jesus said, “I will rise on the third day.”)
  18. The son was laid upon the wood/cross.
  19. The son was bound to the wood/cross.
  20. Abraham had a knife to pierce his son, Jesus’ skin was pierced by whips laced with bones, glass and rocks.
  21. The Lord Himself provided the sacrifice (the ram, Jesus). [Note, the word order in the Hebrew text of Genesis 22:8 could read, “The Lord will provide Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” A foreshadowing of Jesus]
  22. Blood was shed.
  23. The sacrifice was a substitute (ram a substitute for Isaac, Jesus a substitute for us).
  24. The sacrifice was a demonstration of love for God.
  25. Men of great faith in God who were committed obediently to the will of God.
  26. The ram was caught in the thorns, and Jesus had a crown of thorns on his head.
  27. Abundant blessings flow because of the sacrifice (abundant life).
  28. Abraham was tested, Jesus was tested.
  29. The son ultimately survived the sacrifice.
  30. The son was resurrected on the third day.

THE WELLS OF SALVATION

Isaiah 12:2-3 says:
Behold, God is my salvation(a); I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation(b). Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation(c) .
The Hebrew for salvation in this passage is:
A. ישועתי [yeshua-ti, my salvation]
B. לישועה [Lisua - Salvation]
C. הישועה [huyusua, salvation]

The Hebrew name for Jesus is "Yeshua" meaning "Iehovah is salvation".

Looking at this passage again we see:

Behold, God is my Jesus(a); I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my Jesus(b). Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of Jesus(c) .

A. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23
B. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14
C. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14

ABRAHAM MEETS THE TRINITY

And the LORD (Iehovah) appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day Genesis 18:1
One day when Abraham was just chillin', the LORD just so happens to "appear unto him". The next verse shows how he had appeared Abraham.

And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, Genesis 18:2

Unfortunately, Trinity deniers will attempt to say they are angels or representatives of Yahweh. Yet there is no indicator of that claim.
NOTE: The name of God in scripture is transliterated either Iehovah, Jehovah, or Yahweh. When referenced in English translations, Jehovah is stylized in all caps as "The LORD". Notice smaller caps. When his name is personally used as in Exodus 6:3, it is left as "Jehovah".

EDIT: I posted verse 3 from BibleGateway which erroneously altered the rendering of the KJV from "My Lord [adonai]" to "My LORD". Notice however, that it is Lord singular [adonai], rather than Lords plural [adonim]. The true rendering of the KJV is LORD in verse 1 and Lord in verse 3.

Interesting Yosef. How does this verse correlate with:

But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." Exodus 33:20 NIV[/QUOTE][/QUOTE]

There are also many other verse that say God and man met "face to face". In short I believe this to be a glimpse of the triune monotheistic God, but not his full glory. Here is an article that discusses this issue. https://answersingenesis.org/who-is-god/face-to-face/

But there is--Gen 19:1. On he other hand, there is never any mention in Scripture of the Father or the Holy Spirit taking on human form, nor are they ever referred to as angels, for good reason. So there is nothing to suggest or support that this was the Trinity.

Except in Genesis 19, it says angels, and not Jehovah. Unlike Genesis 18:1. In Genesis 18:1 it says "Iehouah" appeared to Abraham, and he addressed them as one.

That he said, "O Lord," in no way means he was addressing all of them. At this point, to him, they were just travellers. That is simply how people treated strangers back then, and he was likely addressing the one that seemed to be most deserving of respect.

My whole point is that it says angels in Gen 19 because these were two of the three that were with Abraham.

Yosef,
You are doing an outstanding job in presenting Christ in the OT, since you have a first hand knowledge of Hebrew (any relation to the scholar Jacob ben Chayyim who was involved with the Rabbinical Bible and the Masoretic Text?)

When we go back to the very beginning, the first Adam was a type of the last Adam at the time that he was created, and Eve was a type of the Church. We could go through every page of the Tanach and find Christ, since He was also the Rock that accompanied Israel in the wilderness.

The masoretic texts is credited to the kariate Joseph Ben moses Ben asher.there was another used one by Ben naphtali

Nah. I want to read into that however. My university is the Father. I just read and verify what holds water the best. The Adam-Christ typology is one of the best evidences that Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life, because other Jewish/Christian off-shoots fail to fulfill this, such as Islam. I haven't read much on Eve's part, but Adam's is profound. I had I response I was going to make in another thread implying that Genesis was both literal and allegorical, until I realized I could not post. Here is what I saved in a .txt document:

ADAM: A TYPE OF CHRIST
Adam was the first Christ-type.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:23
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. 1 Corinthians 15:25-46
Adam - Jesus
Adam wanted to be God - God became man
Adam fell to death - God rose to Life (as Christ)
Adam caused all to die - Jesus gave life to all
Adam brought sin into the world - Jesus took away sin
Adam created son of God Lk 3:38- Jesus was begotton son of God Jn 3:16
Right relation with God before fall - Incorruptible relationship with God
Adam without sin till fall - Jesus eternally without sin
Physical dominion - Spiritual dominion

Then I guess Genesis 18:1 arbitrarily says Iehovah appeared to Abraham. And that was it.

the angel unto the Lord is a type of Christ but wasn't the entire trinity. remember each person of the trinity is able to take human form. besides Abraham saw el shaddai not Jehovah. see exodus 6:3. that says they never called God YHWH but el shaddai.

JESUS AMONG THE PATRIARCHS

Every name in scripture has a meaning. Adam means man, Emmanuel means God with us, Eve means mother of all living. When we take the name meanings in the genealogy all the way up to Jesus, we get a possible story about Jesus. There are many attempts of finding "codes" in the scriptures, most of the time turning out to be sensationalism. However some are hard to ignore:

Elohim God
Adam Man
Seth Appointed
Enosh Mortal
Kenan Sorrow;
Mahalalel The Blessed God
Jared Shall come down
Enoch Teaching
Methuselah His death shall bring
Lamech The Despairing
Noah Rest, or comfort.

Together the name meanings produce: God-Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest.

In fact the list goes on with 70+ names in all www.bible-codes.org/Names-Bible-Prophecy-Code.htm

names of God are titles given to him by himself or man that describe his nature. in the bible most names given worked like that as well,
el shaddai, the great provider, protector. the good shepherd. jesus claimed that name.

Yosef,

Regarding Eve, most Christians fail to see the depth of what is stated in Eph 5:30-32:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Do you see how the great mystery of the Church being the Body of His flesh and of His bones -- goes back to Eve? Adam spoke these words prophetically, so Adam was the first "prophet" if you will. He said -- by Divine inspiration -- the following words which are quoted by Paul in connection with the Church (Gen 2:22-24):
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

So here's the comparision which was a "Great Mystery " at creation, and is even now a "Great Mystery":
EVE
Husband -- Adam (called "son of God)
Eve -- created specifically for Adam
Husband -- put to sleep
Wife -- taken out of his side
Wife -- brought to Adam and presented to him by God
Wife -- becomes "bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh"

CHURCH
Husband -- Christ (the Lamb of God)
Church (the Lamb's Wife) -- created specifically for Him
Husband -- put to "sleep" for 3 days and 3 nights
Wife -- taken out of His side [through blood and water (the Word of God)]
Wife -- drawn to Christ and presented to Him by the Father
Wife -- becomes "bone of His bone, and flesh of His flesh".
