I think many of you may be missing what I am saying.
You can take just about ANY of Osteen's sermons, and easily find various portions that you would openly admit come directly from one Biblical concept, or another... But some people still claim he is not preaching the word of God because he sometimes does not state a particular book, chapter, or verse as he is relating his message.
im not. I have visited his website, unless he has changed he implied that the gospel wasn't needed for salvation.

but that was then and this is his belief or the church doctrine. rather not very deep or simple. nothing specific. it may be he or the board wanted to avoid a position on end times or partial preterists.http://www.joelosteen.com/Pages/WhatWeBelieve.aspx

but I aslo know that tendency from ravi Zacharias who does the same with apologetics. he does at times start with a chapter or verse. but does so more now when I listened to him then before.

im not into that either. his belief statement seems to hint that as well. its all about today and being blessed today.

The majority of that sermon was not their scripture, at all. Those words Jesus spoke wouldn't even be written down for decades.... and they did not become "scripture" for hundreds of years later.
But it was scripture. If it was thousands of years ago or now.

And if Osteen tells his listeners that they should try to get along with people, and treat them fairly....... is that not scripture? You know very well it is, even if it is not said in the exact words a particular critic wants to hear spoken, and is not followed but a numerical reference.

Yes,but alot of the stuff he says if just "fluff" like Knotical said. You will never talk me into listening to Osteen.I am very, very fussy about who teaches me the word of God.

I understand that. I don't particularly enjoy listening to him either. But I have been a Christian for several decades, and I already, long ago, made the decision many of his listeners are only just beginning to ponder.

If those people were to listen to the type of message I like, they would likely be bored stiff. Osteen is gifted to reach a certain audience, and that is what God has him doing.

Have you ever seen the huge Churches that pack them in to listen to Osteen? Not only him but Benny Hinn? That is extremely sad.I am thinking that is sad to Christ as well.

to be fair to osteen, read the link to his home page and what it states. I wont bother with osteen but I cant find anything there that makes him on the likes of hinn. osteen may have been that way but darn the bible says something about repenting. I do remember osteen saying he was wrong and will focus on biblical issues.

What did Jesus say to His disciples when they wanted to go heavy on some guys who weren't part of their gang? He told them to leave them alone. He said that despite their motives, His message was being preached. (And you can be sure it wasn't getting preached exactly the way He or His disciples would have done it)

Not a single one of us knew about God, or Jesus, or salvation, or ANYTHING when we first became Christians. I didn't even get the real truth about Jesus when I was baptized in the CoC....... but God needed no more than they showed me at that time. Do you doubt that honest, true believers have not begun at Hinn or Osteen's churches? Of course they have.

so if you misquote and are wrong, and then admit an error, should I then not say, she was wrong and then post you did repent and rejoice. if not show me where jesus said something of that nature?

hinn, uhm that man no, that would be tantamount to saying that the jw's have Christians there too.

You're braver than me. I wouldn't have the nerve to stand and swear that no Christians come from Hinn's preaching.

Comparing Osteen to Jesus? What arrogance is this?

The reason any minister should include scripture in their sermons is to support the message they are giving. And it should be clear that it is a message that was imparted to them by God, not some message they put together on their own and yanked scripture references to support it.

O.k. we know how we feel about the man lets have Jesus weigh in on this..

Luke 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

I'm thinking Joel needs to read a sermon by Jonathan Edwards called Sinners In the hands of an angry God

I can equally say that you have by implication said that by listening to a false prophet as hinn claimed that jesus would return physically in 99 therefore the jw taught the same about 2000 and also teach much of the same beatitudes. sins, the same. only the nature of the god is different, and also a disbelief in hell. and some other thing about the resurrection and being in heaven.
theres enough there that one could believe they teach jesus had to die so that you could be redeem. ie enter into the kingdom of god. they are a cult and im not saying that they are right but you have opened that can of worms. I know what the jw teach. I was one. legalistic, yes but there are a lot closer then one thinks. that is why I tell others if you don't know the bible don't debate them!

and I wont listen to benny hinn.

Possibly the most shameful piece of fear-mongering I have ever read. And even Edwards openly stated, about 6 years after preaching it, that that kind of trying to scare people into conversion was not working for him anymore.
