I watched Joel Osteens church service live today. It was AWESOME and life changing. The music was AWESOME and of course the sermon was really really AWESOME. Joel talked about having treasures inside of us that are waiting to come out. And he wants us to say we can, and not we can't. He wants us to go and find what we're good at. Not sit on the sidelines. He used the Ephesians 3:20 about that.

If you like Joel then I highly recommend you watch it either online, or on the Up channel. It is almost 2 hours, but it is worth it. He also had Susan Boyle on to sing a song from a movie she's in, and O Come All Ye Faithful in duet with Elvis. Very AWESOME.

P.S. I will if I remember to come here and talk about what he had his sermon about.

Cool.
Did he mention anything about the saving blood of Jesus Christ? If so, I might like the check that out.

No he didn't. You should get the app and watch if you don't have the channel. He is the best in the business. Besides Billy Graham of course.

The key word there is "business." If by business one means teaching a false, or in the least an incomplete, gospel and turning it into a business, then yes, he is one of the best. He is nowhere near Billy Graham in most respects.

Of course not. He is the best because he doesn't talk about the devil. So, I am going to continue watching him like I am there at Lakewood Church. He is also the best cause he's always happy. But he does have his share of problems. But you wouldn't think so.

"Does not talk about the devil" and "is always happy" sounds like a dishonest feel-good gospel. Although I admit I never heard the name Joel Osteen before, so this is merely a conclusion from what you said. But from what you said I'm suspicious he's leaving out some of the truth.

that "faith" doesn't hold water in times of trial. god never promised:
1) a good life
2) that your job wouldn't be easy or always a blessing.
3) the spouse you marry would be always the best spouse

but what he did promise this:

1) he will never forsake you
2)the world will hate you and you shall suffer if you live for him.
3) he will carry us to heaven if we remain in him.

Hi I'm new, and this is my very first post.

I think Joel is great. He is very inspirational. I live down the street from the church, but I don't actually go to the building most of the time. The church helps many many people and changes lives for the better. He isn't a false teacher in my opinion and many of the bad things people say about in online are just completely false. For example people say they don't do baptism at Lakewood. That isn't true. They do. I have heard they don't do communion. That isn't true. They do. I have heard he built a huge luxury church. That isn't true. He took over an old eyesore (compac center) that the city left abandoned, and remodeled it. They cleaned it up and brought many great things to the area. They drove out the adult business that was a total blight on the whole area. They give free GED classes. They have prayer meeting every single day. As for not talking about the Devil. That isn't really correct. He isn't a fire and brimstone preacher who tries to scare you into believing. He is an inspirational preacher to uses positivity. I don't see why being negative and trying to scare people to Jesus is better than showing positivity and love.

Not necessarily directed at the last poster....

2.4: No Trolling. Do not make an inflammatory remark just to get a response. Address issues not personalities. Respect where people are in their spiritual walk, and respect all others in general. Respect where others are in their spiritual walk, do not disrupt the flow of discussion or act in a way that affects others negatively including when debating doctrinal issues, in the defense of the Christian faith, and in offering unwelcome spiritual advice.

I'm sorry I don't understand. Is this an automated message or did I do something wrong?

No you did nothing wrong... the message is, sorta automated. I forgot to add the part ... Not necessarily directed at the last poster....

Some times we members forget where we started.... We can forget our baby step in the Lord.. Like some of the posters here i dont care for Joel's type of preaching.... At one time i would have thought it was great... I want more depth of the Word..... We all have to start some place.

Naw I think that was adressed at everyone in the thread, including the thread opener.

Also, welcome to CF.net :wave

Oh.. whew. I thought I had broken a rule with my very first post. Thanks.

Ah. You mean the TV show version. I like that one to give me energy for the week. I think he does it that way to help people not feel so down in tough times. At the church not all his sermons are like that. Also, they edit because when he quotes the bible he pauses to people can find the passage in their own bible and follow along. They don't have time to show all that on TV.

Also, he isn't the only pastor a Lakewood.

I just actually watched 10 minutes of a Joel Osteen sermon and but I got really sick of his forced positivity and the fake smile.
He's too televangelist.
But that's personal taste, and possibly a cultural difference thing. I'd probably want to throw something at him after a few more minutes of listening to him. But I can see how he can ignite optimism in people. Every pastor focuses on certain aspects and neglects others, that's just human.

But that church is HUGE!!!! Speaking in front of that crowd must be a thrill.

Yeah some people at church say the same thing. They usually stick to the other pastors. Yes the church is HUGE. Houston has a 5 million people you know. I got to stand up at the main stage once. It was scary just to stand up there with mostly empty seats. All in all between all the services I think Lakewood fills up 4 times on Sunday and twice on Wednesday. We have something going on pretty much every day though.
