Hello!

Every year our Landlord increases our rent, and some years we get a cost of living raise. We didn't get one last year and they increased our rent $50.

Please pray that our rent won't be raised too high, and please pray that we get the cost of living raise this next year. We should know in October.

Thanks :)

.
Father, You know the situation in the lives of this sweet sister of ours in Jesus, and her husband. Please make their path the way of Your will for them, and provide the provision they will require in the coming year. Thank You Father and I give You my praise for it in Jesus' name. Amen.

While the actual amount won't be known, as you said, Angel, until October, the following was a projection of a possible increase for 2017. This was info released in June, so it may or may not be accurate.

Social Security benefits did not increase in 2016. The main reason cited for no increase was that gasoline prices were down. Forget about the fact that food, utilities et al all say increases during 2015, with additional increases in 2016.

"... Trustees who oversee the nation's entitlement programs said in two new reports that they expect Social Security's cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) increase to be 0.2% next year, based on "intermediate assumptions." The trustees also projected that Medicare's Hospital Insurance trust fund will run out of money earlier than previously predicted.

The small increase in Social Security next year — which equals an extra $2 for someone getting a $1,000 monthly check — would come after retirees got no increase in Social Security benefits in 2016 for the third time in four decades. The final COLA figure is typically not determined until the fall...."

I'm sorry, i don't understand what you're saying. Can you please explain again? :)

No worries, Angel.

What I posted, from a June 2016 newspaper article, said that there might be an increase in Social Security/Disability of 0.2% for 2017. With rent, food, utilities & other expenses increasing in price, Social Security payments haven't kept up with the cost of living.

Property taxes go up practically every year. A property owner is going to pass that increase to his renters via higher rents. That's just sound business.

Those increases can hurt the renters, though....especially when on a limited budget without any income increases.

Is it.02 %? that's an insult. not even two pennies per dollar

That's what was projected in June(?). It won't be until October but more likely after the election that everyone on SS or SSDisability will learn of any increase for 2017.

Because of rising prices in 2015 and 2016, but lack of even a cent increase in SS for 2016, I know of several seniors who are really feeling the pinch now. Gas prices may be lower than the $4 + a gallon that they were for a while, but everything else has increased in price, from utilities to groceries to clothing. Rents have also increased.

So if the .02% does occur for 2017, those who receive $1,000 a month will see their monthly payments increase by $2.00. They'll also most likely pay a higher amount per month for Medicare, which is slated to increase in premium cost per month in 2017. So any gain in monthly receipt will be gone to Medicare.
