Knowing God as father can only occur as Christ is revealed in you. You may know him as the omnipotent, omniscience, omnipresent God but knowing Him as father only happens through His Son, Luke 10:22,
22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

Many call Him father, but only the born again can call God father and see Him as His Son reveals the father to them .
Revelation can only be made real by a birthing, as the believer see's the birthing, it will begin to open up new understanding to their position in Christ.
Without the understanding of the birthing God will remain no different to them than the God of the Old Testament.
Though He became their father the moment He birthed them, the reality of that fact will evade them. The answer to knowing God as father is "but by the revelation of Jesus Christ," Gal. 1:11-12,
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Son revealed in the believer, will reveal the father.
There is no other answer for the longing soul to be in oneness with their father.
It is written in the scriptures how to know God as father.
Just as we have many other ways to understand the things of God, this is the only way to understand God as father.
Understanding God as father brings the believer into the realm of sonship.
At this point the son begins to live his life in unity and oneness with his father.
The "not knowing" is over and he now knows what was in his father's mind before the foundation of the world, John 16:20,
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

And then? You will Know the Son "as" the Father, and the Friend, and the Helper, and the Husband, and the Healer, and the Redeemer, and Redemption, and the Advocate, and the Justisfier, and as justification, and the Spirit, and Patience, and as Righteousness. and all in all.

Good thread there Soul man. When we can call the Father Abba, we're on the right track. God the Father wants us to know Him so well that we can call Him Abba (Daddy).

1 John 5: 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

So true Soul man, Part of knowing God as Father comes from being Spiritually born again as Son's and heirs with Christ to the throne. (Rom. 8:16-18) And being conformed to the image of Christ. (Rom. 8:28-29)

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:
13 till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 that we may be no longer children,
Seems some Christians have trouble with the word " Perfect ".
[*StrongsGreek*] for "Perfect!:
5046 teleios tel'-i-os from 5056; complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.); neuter (as noun, with 3588) completeness:--of full age, man, perfect.
Simply mature, maturing,.

1 John 5: 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

To make a Christian, complete, mature, In Christ!
[*StrongsGreek*] for :tongueerfecting
2675 katartizo kat-ar-tid'-zo from 2596 and a derivative of 739; to complete thoroughly, i.e. repair (literally or figuratively) or adjust:--fit, frame, mend, (make) perfect(-ly join together), prepare, restore. see GREEK for 2596 see GREEK for 739

So do you see yourself perfect in Christ?

Mature, and still Maturing! I'm from farming country, and when the crop comes to maturity, it still can mature some more before harvesting...

Reading your OP brought me to Colossians chapter three as when we seek to know God He will reveal Himself to us through His Son Christ Jesus.

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

So you are perfecting but not perfect.
What is perfect is Christ in us, not us in Christ.
You know it is like the two Christians that were wrangling over was jesus hung on a tree, or a cross.. Until a third Christina stepped in and said," What does it matter what He was hung on, it could be a barn door, it's not what He was hung on, but WHY!
This conversation over Perfect, and Mature, and Perfecting is the same thing. We are seen as Perfect in the eyes of Christ, but in the process of manifesting that perfection.
I'm 75 years old, I feel that I am mature, but I have many more years of maturing.

...We are seen as Perfect in the eyes of Christ, but in the process of manifesting that perfection...
That is like a pauper saying "I am a millionaire but I have not got it yet".
The only thing seen as Perfect in the eyes of Christ is whatever is true in us, which is not much in comparison to Christ.

Well you see my avatar? That caterpillar, although he is stuck to ground travel, and knowing one day he will go through a metamorphosis, and turn into that beautiful monarch butterfly, doesn't see himself as stuck to ground travel. He sees himself as that butterfly right in the now. He sees his beautiful wings, and flying through the air as a now thing. And he is enjoying that thought process, while his counterparts are still seeing themselves as stuck to ground travel. And thinking to themselves, well one day will come, someday, when we go through that promise of metamorphosis.
It all depends on how you see yourself in Christ..and I see myself as one with Him. 1 Cor..6: 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Not two, but one.

You know Hermit, one day, along time ago, the Lord showed me something about myself. He showed me this beautiful red delicious apple tree. Man those apples were beautiful in colour and texture. And then He showed me this yellow delicious apple tree and the fruit didn't look so hot. Well he took a branch off the yellow tree and grafted it into the red delicious tree, and that yellow fruit became as beautiful, and full as the red ones.... But I said to Him, " but that yellow apple isn't red like the rest, how does the yellow become red...?" He said, " as you see yourself dead to the old tree, and alive in the new tree, you will turn red as well!"

Do you see yourself as a beautiful monarch butterfly flying above your counterparts stuck to ground level?
Yes Hermit, I do. But I know the others don't see me as any different from them, because they see me still stuck on the ground... But that is okay, because I know what makes the difference.

In light of what you said, and this thread "Knowing God as Father", would you consider it pointless to be humble and meek before the Father?
