Jethro and I are best friends.
If that has changed, I wasn't told about it.
Our differences always come down to OSAS.
A wise pastor told me one time that it's not wise to divide over doctrine like OSAS or any doctrine (although I still like a good debate - ha).

He told me this at the time there were many churches involved in building a homeless shelter in our community, I believe around 40 of them, from Catholics to Nazarene Churches, Pentecostals to Lutherans. God lifted us up and out of our comfy churches, brought us together and made us all work together. It was awesome!

That's a great testimony Jesse.
It's a rare deed.
My church has a men's prayer group on Tuesday mornings and we tried to get other churches to get involved with us but the pastors won't promote it.
I think they're afraid they will some of their congregation to us.
Sad, can't even get together for prayer.

But OSAS is a trivial matter.
I debate it with Jethro just to keep him in line.

It was a time I will never forget, I do remember arguing with this pastor (a little bit), he is an Assembly of God pastor.

It's very sad about the churches not being able to get together, maybe if someone knows someone, you can pray together regardless.

Who keeps you in line? lol

Are you kidding?
Why do you think I roam with reckless abandon around here?
I suppose Kathi and Deborah keep me in line.
It's always women.
Yeah, women, that's another thread.

All my life, not kidding, Dad was in Bible School when i was born.. I have lived in and around the Pentecostal Movement... I have seen the real and phony... the 'gifts' with out the love... The love that can only come from above.... Been part of 'heavenly songs' lift to the Lord... watched the leg pullers... seen the tricks ... Been blessed ... Cried over what man has done to His Church....
What i have learned is if it doesn't match the Scripture stay away from it....

A big amen to that!

That's a good question.
How does one get saved and stayed saved?
Through faith in the forgiveness of God.

You can't earn a declaration of right standing with God, so the only way to get that is to have your unrighteousness removed through the forgiveness of your unrighteousness and replaced with Christ's right standing with God.

I'm moving to your area to start a church where these kinds of things can be taught and openly discussed. A nursery for the children, and dog kennels for those who bark like dogs will be provided.

Charismatic worship seems to have changed a bit since I was involved in it in the late eigthies. I thought it was the mainline community churches getting into charismatic worship that had changed it, but I think even the original Word of Faith movements have changed their worship style.

I literally saw the Holy Spirit come down on the congregation during a worship service. The whole praise and worship service was patterned to allow this to happen. I wonder if any congregations still do that. Not any that I've seen lately. And certainly not the community church type meetings. They got the music and the jumping and the excitement, but seem to be missing the actual 'falling' of the Spirit--God's response to our praise and worship.

You'll have to hire a janitor to clean up after all those who keep drooling from the mouth.

I don't understand what you are talking about judgement time, I was taught that I won't be judged for who I am, but I will be judged for what I have done while in this mortal body,

...and, judged...., the nature in which he was created, I was conceived in sin, if I'm justified and hidden in Christ, how will my sinful nature be judged again if it was already judged in Jesus on the Cross,

...care to explain?

Your right, your judgement will be as a child of God. Not as someone who is not. God has a plan for you, and your works will be matched to that plan. Did you do all as instructed?

You are a new person, that old you (spirit) is gone. According to James all men are created like God, so we don't curse them. So even by the nature they were created, the unsaved are judged on that level and without excuse. Not us though.

Lets be careful with the word God. In Psalm 82, the term was god (small g) It was a play on words. If men could be referred to as god's because they unjustly judge men, why have a problem with Jesus claiming to be God. No where in the Bible does man get called God or a God. It is god.

Chopper, God is a generic term. They were judging Jesus nature. Satan gets called God, and he is below our feet. Acts says we are God's offspring, and each seed produces after it's own kind. We are even born of the word. Jesus did call them God's. They were created like and no different than him, but sure did not act like they were from the same family. When Jesus show up, we will appear and be exactly like him. John even said as Jesus is, so are we in this world.

Nobody is saying we are God the father, we are created like him though, and not some half monkey, or lesser being as evolution would suggest.

This is off topic though and not much to do with flopping on the floor speaking in tongues.

My point was using the capital G for humans or even false gods. I believe the only one to get the capital G is God, no one else. It's confusing when someone uses the G for someone other than YHWH, otherwise I think of Deity when the author is speaking of man or false gods.

Me personally? I think I've come to the point, spiritually, where I could not neglect or abuse my salvation to the point of losing it. But part of that maturing is now humbly acknowledging that there are potential trials and sufferings that I may not stand up very well under. When I first got saved I felt bullet proof.

Not that Christ is somehow insufficient, but that I may be tested to the point of exposing a greater love for self than for Christ and the forgiveness of sins I have received. Can't conceive of that right now--and I have surely been tested--but, as I say, all that testing has shown me I need to be humble, not arrogant, about my salvation and my standing in Christ.

It's about whether or not a person will continue in their faith in the forgiveness of God and love for him. I know a person very close to me who had the gift of tongues (I don't) and who 15 years into their salvation decided to take a break from the Christian faith because of the demands of the faith and unbelief. That was 13 years ago. As of two years ago they've not come back. I've been hoping and praying they'll come back, and maybe they have, but we have not talked about it, so I don't know if they did or not. Spiritual discussions were not ending well so I stopped talking to them about it.

Thank you both for responding sincerely and honestly,

...so what I see you both saying, please don't get angry, is you are eternally secure, but maybe not others, so you personally believe in OSAS for yourselves, but not for others.

The reason I asked the question is because I was saved in a denomination that believed that after a person was born again they could lose their salvation, ...again, I don't want to debate doctrine, ...I want to talk about the results of that doctrine, as a young dumb and stupid baby child of God I made all of the common newbie mistakes, pastor worship, denomination worship, we were the only ones that had the truth, all during my two and a half years there, ...I never had any assurance of my salvation, I also was in charge of the youth and most of them were scared and without assurance of their salvation, ...why, because we knew and understood the undescribable horror and terror and finality of the Lake of Fire, we never had peace, we had occasional moments when we were distracted and didn't think about it, but no real peace like the Word promises,

...now I hope you understand the reason I asked my question and I also hope you understand my saying you don't personally believe you can lose your salvation, so may I humbly and in the love of Christ ask you to please reconsider talking about a person losing their salvation if you don't believe it personally for yourselves, it can do great damage and destroy someone's faith.

In His Love
