Hello everybody, it's the first day of February today (which means that old mister groundhog will be popping his head up soon, a lot of us will be exchanging Valentines Day cards and going out for dinner although not me :sad and I will soon be adding 28 candles to my birthday cake! :sohappy) and just looking at the calendar I realized that it's a non leap year this year. I just got finished looking leap years up. I already understood that sometimes February has 28 days and sometimes it has 29, but I still really don't understand why that is. It says that the earth doesn't orbit the sun precisely in 365 days, but if that's the case why do we only have a leap year every four years? :confused

It is to make up for approximately an extra quarter of a day that is not accounted for in our current calendar. So we put an extra day at the end of February every 4 years to keep the calendar on track.

Oh okay. I understand... I think. But I'm not all that good with math to be honest.

To put it in simple terms it takes the earth 365.25 days (roughly) to make one lap around the sun. Since our years are generally only 365 days that would mean our years would be a day off every four years. Eventually, if we did not build something into our calendars to account for that we would see the seasons happening at different dates throughout the years.

The groundhog lies :hips, Valentines day is a joke :sorry and birthdays only remind me that I will be 64 this year :eek and Knotical is right :thumb

LOL! I find this absolutely true and hilarious :lol(except for the Valentines Day part true romantic right here sorry) But yet it's all in still in good fun.
