In my opinion learning from other religions is a good thing.
Sure it is.
But the majority of Christians I encounter have enough on their hands just figuring out what the Bible tells them.
So, when they start looking at other religions, they don't have a good measuring stick (AKA:"canon") by which to determine if the teaching of the other religion measures up to the truth of the Bible.
If I have the truth readily available to me with everything I need to know about God's will for my life, why do I need to go digging in some other religion's half-truths and what would I be looking for? Another path to the Father? There is only one. (John 14:6)

If we have seen the Son we have seen the Father.
The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."
Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

Our truth is from God via His Son. Our perfection training is from Jesus the one we follow. The Holy Spirit also bears witness to truth from the mind of the Spirit. Those who listen and learn from the Father go to the Son and Jesus will raise them up on the last day. As is written "they shall all be taught by God".

I might try to understand another faith only in regard that I could better witness to them the truth of the gospel message. This is eternal life that one may know the one true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.

Sanctified by faith in Christ Jesus, that is no work is done to have our sins forgiven. We call upon the Lord by faith. Our righteousness is credited to us by faith. It can't be purchased or earned.

"A sincere faith"
Luke 23:42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
Jesus's reply =>Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

"One who does not truly believe nor repent nor ask for eternal life" (that one implied "if" Jesus was the Christ get us off this cross)
Luke 23:39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
Jesus's reply=> silence

Two asked something of Him yet only one received a reply. The one who truly believed in Him was saved by His faith. He believed and acted on His belief (proof of belief) by calling Jesus Lord and asked to be remembered when the Lord came into "His Kingdom".

I don't learn from other religions. They're so far out in left field that I don't see any value in them.

What happens is I get inspired to examine Christian teachings more closely when unbelievers, atheists, and people of false or errant religions criticize Christianity. I have learned a lot from that. It's valuable because they are honest. When something doesn't line up in Christianity they are honest enough to confront it and point it out. But most Christians, it seems, will toe their denomination's line no matter how contradictory or wrong even they have to admit they are as if they are somehow doing the right thing for God by doing that.

It seems many Christians think it's a sin to question what the church teaches. But we can learn so much if we would dare question what teachers are teaching in the church, we just need to do that with the right attitude--not to rationalize going back to our old lives, but wanting to genuinely know the truth.

Good point. :thumbsup

For my own "food for thought" I break down life's knowledge into categories so that I can keep knowledgeable tidbits filed into manageable domains in my mind so that I can keep their value properly prioritized so that I don't get too off-balance as to how much power I let a learned lesson/information point have on my viewpoint about life.....phew...whatta sentence I concocted there.
Anyway. First most basic form of knowledge in my book is cleverness. Even an animal can show cleverness...such as the dog waiting till I'm not looking before snatching that piece of meat off the BBQ pit. Or a child/adult child lying to cover up.
Then comes worldly wisdom. I throw others life experiences into this category. As well as secular movies, books( like Shakespear), audios...and other religions.
Educated and raw intelligence are also another category.
But the most treasured is Godly wisdom. Whenever this is encountered one should take hold and seize that and hold it dear to one's heart.
All other forms of knowledge should pale in the believer's heart and mind.

I like learning about other religions. I like religious studies. I like the truth direct from the root of religious text. Who was the prophet of islam?. What was He like? What did he look like?

Apart from mohamuds war on dogs and the ordering of death to all dogs and later allowing them but only for working but calling black dogs the devil, saying the devil hides in your nose, pees in your ear, and literally farts when someone prays, mohamud also has a hatred for lizards.

Mohamuds war on lizards.
